Q-V-C in D.C. They’re coming to the presidential inauguration. It’s a perfect match — the relentless hawkers at the shopping network and the relentless money-grubbers at Team Obama still pimping pins and other knick-knacks after the election.
QVC is traveling to Washington to mark President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration this month — and is bringing along plenty of coins, stamps, jewelry and even a small handbag to sell.
The retail network has already sold more than 100,000 items related to Obama’s election and sees the inauguration as an opportunity to reach far beyond the group of people regularly interested in political collectibles.
“Frankly, if we were not at the inauguration, we would feel like we were not doing our job,” said Doug Rose, vice president of multichannel programming for the retail giant, which is available in 94 million American homes and had sales totaling $7.4 billion in 2007.
QVC will show portions of the parade and conduct interviews with spectators, then air live on the night of Jan. 20 from the Creative Coalition’s inaugural ball. Host Leah Williams will be decked out in an inaugural gown.
Obama’s inauguration has attracted plenty of interest from TV networks, not only the traditional broadcast and cable news outlets, but specialized venues such as BET and Nickelodeon that don’t normally pay attention to live political events.
“We’re trying to give the audience a flavor of what the event is like, from the event,” Rose said. “We will try to give them a sense of the electricity in the air.”
Among the items QVC has been selling since the election are a Barack Obama stamp collection, with stamps from Liberia, Sierra Leone, Grenada, St. Vincent and The Grenadines ($38.88). One set has an Obama-Biden half dollar coin and a 1939 stamp depicting George Washington taking the first oath of office ($23.75). An Obama throw blanket is marked down from $41 to $36.84.
No word on whether they’ll be selling La Obama Soda or those Obama memorial plates, a version of which I spotted next to the batteries and bubblegum at Walgreen’s the other day.
Ann Coulter banned for life from NBC – NBC naturally denies. But plenty of time for Perez Hilton!

“We are just not going to have her on any more, it’s over,” a top network source explains…
“We are just not interested in anyone so highly critical of President-elect Obama, right now,” a TODAY insider reveals. “It’s such a downer. It’s just not the time, and it’s not what our audience wants, either.”
Media Matters pushed them to cancel but there was no nutroots groundswell that I’m aware of. They knew what they were getting when they booked her considering what happened the last time she was on and her tendency to refer to The One in interviews as “B. Hussein Obama.” Scheduling her put them in a spot where they’d either have to go through with it and spoil their new liberal Olber-brand or cave and be ridiculed endlessly for lefty pandering by O’Reilly and Fox. So, er, why’d they do it? And why would someone at the show give a quote that juicy to Drudge knowing what he’d do with it, given that he’s a friend of Coulter’s and dependably promotes her books whenever a new one drops? Anyone else find this strange/stupid, even by NBC’s standards?

Late today, NBC News denied the story with this statement: “We’ve had Ann Coulter on ‘Today’ many times, but because of the news in Washington and the Middle East, we decided to cancel her appearance tomorrow. Understanding the media as well as she does, we are sure she knows this happens from time to time. We look forward to welcoming her back in the future.”…
The Drudge story says NBC “replaced Coulter with showbiz reporter Perez Hilton,” who also has a book being released tomorrow. NBC tells TVNewser Hilton is just appearing in the fourth hour and had been booked far in advance.
“The news in Washington and the Middle East” is sufficiently dire to leave no time for Coulter but some time for Perez Hilton?

President-elect Barack Obama has selected Leon E. Panetta, the former congressman and White House chief of staff, to take over the Central Intelligence Agency, an organization that Mr. Obama criticized during the campaign for using interrogation methods he decried as torture, Democratic officials said Monday.
Mr. Panetta has a reputation in Washington as a competent manager with strong background in budget issues, but has little hands-on intelligence experience. If confirmed by the Senate, he will take control of the agency most directly responsible for hunting senior Al Qaeda leaders around the globe, but one that has been buffeted since the Sept. 11 attacks by leadership changes and morale problems.
Given his background, Mr. Panetta is a somewhat unusual choice to lead the C.I.A., an agency that has been unwelcoming to previous directors perceived as outsiders, such as Stansfield M. Turner and John M. Deutch. But his selection points up the difficulty Mr. Obama had in finding a C.I.A. director with no connection to controversial counterterrorism programs of the Bush era.

No signature from the secretary of state means no admittance means a glorious Democratic meltdown on the floor tomorrow. Grab your popcorn people, Tuesday the 6th could be quite a day:
CNN’s Susan Roesgen reports that Burris has filed a motion, a “writ of mandamus,” with the Illinois Supreme Court to force the Illinois secretary of state to sign the certificate. There court has not yet issued a ruling on the issue.

Candidates for RNC chair debate today
GOP insiders and party activists are excited about today’s RNC chairman debate hosted by Grover Norquist and Americans for Tax Reform. Norquist will moderate the debate beginning at 1pm Eastern this afternoon at the National Press Club in Washington DC. The event will be broadcast on C-SPAN and streamed at RNCDebate.org. And lots of conservative Twitter users will be in attendance. HA round-up here. Questions ostensibly will come from grass-roots conservatives, though a heated battle broke out between Ron Paul supporters who want to focus on policy and electoral-driven Beltway strategists like Patrick Ruffini who only want “good” questions that focus on strategy. Chastises Ruffini:
Whether it’s Ron Paul Republicans or movement conservatives or moderates, my message to all is one and the same: the RNC is not a policymaking body — nor should it be. It cannot make Republicans in Congress spend less, worthy a goal as that might be. The RNC’s job is to win elections — period. That means the RNC is made up of good political people — not policy wonks — who with all due respect, you wouldn’t want making policy.
All the candidates for RNC Chairman are good conservatives. RNC members should choose the one who will win elections. As I’ve written over the last few days, technology, strategy, and tactics are not the only things — and success in these areas is inextricably linked to having a Republican message “we can believe in.”
El Pollo Richardson – “Disappointed” and “hurt” by turn of events
All of a sudden, the Latino activists who jeered that Richardson’s nomination was an unacceptable consolation prize are demanding that another Hispanic be appointed to the post. Bill Richardson is “disappointed” in the turn of the events but has “faith” in the process. Excited about returning to work on the state budget. Not surprisingly for a democrat, he refuses to talk about the probe or his conversations with Obama. Richardson says he “underestimated how long the criminal investigation would take.”Question: Did the transition team pressure you to withdraw or did you? Richardson unconvincingly says that he made the decision.“Yesterday, I was hurting. I lost a Cabinet appointment. But I think people have to focus on what people are losing in this country. Even the so called “Democratic Guru” James Carville who ran Bill Clinton’s successful presidential campaign in 1992 predicts the Democratic Party — currently disgraced by the venal behavior of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich among other things — will suffer a series of embarrassing scandals in 2009. Of course Carville, does come up with the excuse that since more Democrats are in elected office this increases the likelihood of scandal:
“I firmly believe that there are streaks, and that political scandals happen in clusters,” Carville said, in a posting on CNN.com.
There are several burgeoning scandals right now in Democratic circles:
* Blagojevich is accused by federal prosecutors of conspiring to sell Barack Hussein Obama Jr.’s former Senate seat to the highest bidder.
* Former low-rated talk show host Al Franken is being accused of stealing an election — with the help of Obama’s ACORN organization — in Minnesota.
* Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) is alleged to have not paid his taxes.
* Former Rep. Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s White House chief of staff, is accused of shenanigans regarding his property taxes in Chicago.
* Obama himself was alleged in the U.K. press to have had an ongoing affair, which, just like the John Edwards scandal, has not yet been covered by the U.S. media.

Some of you may remember last month the story about the federal investigtion regarding Bill Richardson’s connections to a consultancy already linked to a pay-for-play scandal in Alabama. Well it looks like the “pollos” of Bill Richardson’s pay-to-play scandal have come home to roost. More than likely the first of many ethics-tainted Obama nominations to go down in flames. Adios, Bill. Even the MSM can’t hide this one:

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, tapped in December by President-elect Barack Obama to serve as secretary of Commerce, has withdrawn his name for the position, citing a pending investigation into a company that has done business with his state.
“Let me say unequivocally that I and my Administration have acted properly in all matters and that this investigation will bear out that fact,” he said Sunday in a report by NBC News. “But I have concluded that the ongoing investigation also would have forced an untenable delay in the confirmation process.”

Danny Davis or State Sen. Emil Jones but assured him that Tammy Duckworth and AG Lisa Madigan would be acceptable. Just for the record, Jackson, Davis and Jones are black, Duckworth and Madigan aren’t. Now that five total replacements. 3 of which are black, 2 of which are white. Harry Reid has problems with 3 of the replacements, all of them black, and is ok with the 2 white replacements?.
Sources say the Senate majority leader pushed against Jackson and Davis — both democratic congressmen from Illinois — and against Jones — the Illinois Senate president who is the political godfather of President-elect Barack Obama — because he did not believe the three men were electable. He feared losing the seat to a Republican in a future election…
Sources believe that at least portions of the phone conversations are on tape…
“Congressman Jackson was encouraged that two independent statewide polls confirmed that he was the most popular Democrat to succeed Barack,” Jackson spokesman Rick Bryant said. “The polls also showed he was in a strong position to win reelection in 2010, drawing strong support from virtually every demographic group.”

Bill Clinton: caretaker until 2010?
In the past few days, there have been rumors about NY Gov David Paterson appointing Caroline Kennedy to fill Hillary Clinton’s vacated senate seat. Now comes word Billy might be interested instead. CBS reports that Bill Clinton’s name has come up again as a “caretaker” appointment to fill out the rest of Hillary Clinton’s term in the Senate, more than a month after the former President publicly declared himself disinterested in the job:
Has hell frozen over?
A Democrat governor is calling for illegal alien criminals to be deported faster. Did I actually read this right? Has hell frozen over? Is there world peace? It’s true: Washington state Gov. Christine Gregoire has proposed a partnership with the feds to finally expedite the illegal alien criminal deportation process through the 287(g) program, which I’ve reported on extensively. (See here for background.)
Strapped budgets have a way of helping cure open-borders blindness (via Seattle Times, hat tip – Orbusmax). Better late than never.
To save money, Gov. Chris Gregoire wants illegal aliens serving time in state prisons deported.
Her proposal estimates that deporting illegal aliens — who are serving or would serve time for drug or property crime convictions — will save the state more than $9 million in the next two-year budget.
The state faces a $5.7 billion budget deficit over the next 2 1/2 years, and Gregoire has proposed a no new-taxes budget proposal laden with cuts, including about $200 million from the Department of Corrections, the attorney general’s office, and other public safety programs.
The deportation proposal is modeled after a program in Arizona that has saved the state more than $18.5 million since 2005, said Eldon Vail, secretary of the Washington Department of Corrections.
“It’s not an ideal choice, if revenue was there, I’d say have them do their time,” Vail said. “Is justice better served? It’s a tough question to wrestle with when you don’t have resources.”
The proposal would call for the state to come to an agreement with U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, which would carry out the deportations. In Washington, there are about 350 prisoners who would be eligible to be transferred to ICE. On average, it costs the state $90 a day to imprison an inmate, Vail said.
It also includes allowing state workers to act as immigration agents in some instances, assisting ICE in processing illegal aliens under a version of the so-called 287(g) agreements, which are contentious among immigrant advocates.
Seperation of church and state? Not so much.
When churches say anything remotely positive about a Republican president, it’s an unconscionable violation of the separation of church and state. When churches extol a Democrat president, it’s “art:”
Inauguration-week sermons would be videotaped to highlight Barack Obama’s rise to power in an unprecedented quest by the Library of Congress to capture this transfer of power for future generations.
The folks at the library’s American Folklife Center are soliciting churches, synagogues, mosques and others for copies of sermons or passionate speeches that focus on the significance of the Jan. 20 inauguration of Obama as the country’s first black president.
The Folklife Center is looking for both video and audio clips, all to be preserved in a public collection that includes interviews after Pearl Harbor and the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
“If a historian asks ‘How did Americans react to Obama’s inauguration?’ we’ll have immediate responses to this powerful event,” said Dr. David A. Taylor, head of research and programs at the American Folklife Center.
The “Inauguration 2009 Sermons and Orations Project” marks the first time the library has gathered this sort of material from a U.S. presidential inauguration. Taylor says the project is especially timely — with the inauguration coming a day after the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday — and as it ties into King’s reputation as a great orator.
Nearly 70 percent of the 4,000 collections at the center involve the spoken word, whether it’s on paper, audio or video.
Michael Taft, head archivist at the Folklife Center, says it was decided to collect inauguration-themed sermons because that speech form is poetic, dramatic — and at some churches, “an important art form.”
Liberal Conspiracy to Frame and Defame TeamSarah website: Busted!

TeamSarah.org, an online community of over 63,000 who admire Sarah Palin and all she stands for, currently is experiencing an attempt at framing the whole community as guilty of unsavory racist behavior. This apparently is part of an overall attempt by the the worst elements of the progressive faction, conduct for which all liberals should be ashamed to be associated, even indirectly. This was started, for example at DemocracyUnderground (which brags that it intends to turn the word conservative “radioactive”) — well before that unfair and arguably defamatory piece was published in The Huffington Post, an extremist liberal website that evidently does not police its own content for accuracy. It is shocking that the HuffPo dropped any pretense of journalistic standards — like, for instance, simply calling TeamSarah and its proprietor, the Susan B. Anthony List, for a balanced picture, before running a recent attack on TeamSarah. Of course, with previous attempts by the liberals to still spread the Palin baby conspiracy theories, there is no low which the liberals will ever exceed. Oh, BTW. despite a slew of negative liberal press this through the campagne and beyond, an online gaming site *i will not mention the gambling site here* puts Palin’s odds at 3.5-1 to win the 2012 GOP nomination, the best among Republican hopefuls.
