Get ready to pay at least $1,300 more per car thanks to Obama’s CAFE standards
Liberal biased sites such as Yahoo will tout this story as “Obama wants increased fuel efficiency, less smog”, and bury somewhere down in the story the real effect this will have on people.
Administration officials said consumers were going to pay an extra $700, anyway, for mileage standards that had already been approved. The Obama plan adds another $600 to the price of a vehicle, a senior administration official said, bringing the total cost to $1,300 by 2016.
Under the changes, the overall fleet average would have to be 35.5 mpg by 2016, with passenger cars reaching 39 mpg and light trucks hitting 30 mpg under a system that develops standards for each vehicle class size. Manufacturers would also be required to hit individual mileage targets.
Now I for one, am all for better fuel efficient cars, getting off muslim oil as quick as can be, but I am NOT one who wants to pay more for SMALLER cars because the government mandates I do so. If Obama thinks he’s gonna see me driving around in one of those little euro smart cars, he’s got another thing coming.

The real tax to me is the industry development that won’t get done because it has to focus on light-weight, better efficiency, etc. to save the gas. Where’s the real revolution in power train or transmission? It really took that long to get to airbags, and they were that poorly thought?
Regulation as a forcing function, be it safety, efficiency, or even price, just hurts the other vectors of auto manufacturing. Go look at how computers have evolved as an example.
