Germany wouldn’t take Gitmo detainees, Democrats don’t want to pony up $50 million for “transition/resettlement costs” Obama wants
Worried that terror suspects could be brought to the U.S, House Democrats on Monday rebuffed the Obama administration’s request for $50 million to relocate prisoners from the detention facility at Guantanamo, Cuba according to BreitBart:
When lawmakers unveiled a bill to pay for military and diplomatic efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan through the fall, the money to implement President Barack Obama’s executive order to shut down the prison within a year was missing from it. However, money could be transferred later—without a politically challenging vote—if it were needed to move the detainees.
The bill, which was released to key lawmakers, registers about $11 billion more than Obama’s $83.4 billion request, reflecting additional money for procurement of cargo plans, armored combat vehicles, helicopters and other items.
Funding for foreign aid accounts would be increased to about $10 billion, said a House aide briefed on the bill, including money to combat AIDS.
Last week, Defense Secretary Robert Gates told lawmakers that the $50 million request for relocating the detainees was simply a “plug in the budget” that was just “a hedge that would allow us to get started if some construction is needed to be able to accommodate those detainees.”

Basically Obama is planning on eliminating or heavily reducing a tax deferment on companies that reinvest their international profits in overseas operations. He also plans to extend an R/D tax incentive. As well, he plans on seeking out the taxable incomes of people moving money to tax havens overseas. UBS (a well known Swiss bank) has already paid nearly $1 billion in penalties for knowingly hiding US money, and is being sued by the US for civil penalties by hiding the income of over 50,000 US citizens.

So now the companies will spin off their oversea operations, and the profits. Issue shares in the new companies in a non-taxable event. And say goodbye to the jobs and profits completely from the standpoint of the US Corporation. The Stockholders won’t lose because they get the stock of the spin-off. But the US Corporation loses the asset and its profits, making the remaining US corporate HQ look like an expense, instead of a profit center, located in a high corporate tax environment. Sounds like a reciepe for the closure of the US Corporate HQ and relocation to a Corporate Tax haven.

“Why would the vice president tell his family that [he would advise his them to avoid confined spaces, including subway travel and plane travel]? Are we to believe that the Vice President of the United States is a crackpot?”

Recently, the National Organization for Marriage, a group that opposes gay marriage. put out a Youtube video with Miss California Carrie Prejean, then the now infamous flaming Perez Hilton’s (whose real name is Mario Lavandeira) dumb bitch comment. It seems ole Perez wanted to hide it in shame, and got it removed from youtube due to copyright infringements. Well too bad “Perez”. Patterico just uploaded another copy of the video ad.
Personally, I never really used to care one way or another if gays got married. However, after seeing the utter BS same sex marriage loony toons have pulled, ever since it was voted down in California (of all places), and then this Perez Hilton flaming slander, I have officially jumped on the anti-gay marriage bandwagon!

Jack Kemp who was diagnosed with cancer back in January, unfortunately has died at age of 73. Jack Kemp, was a former congressman, vice presidential candidate in 1996, past Housing and Urban Development Secretary under Bush 1, and was an NFL quarterback.

Irony Alert–Senate Dems to decide Specters seniority by SECRET BALLOT
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) predicted Friday that a deal can be worked out to prevent Sen. Arlen Specter from bumping a Senate Democrat from the chairmanship of a powerful committee or subcommittee next year according to The Hill.
Specter, the Pennsylvania lawmaker who abandoned the Republican Party this week to become a Democrat, has set his sights on chairing the Appropriations Committee someday. He could also take over the Judiciary Committee if current chairman Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) takes the Appropriations gavel.
Specter says that Reid has promised to let him keep the seniority he accrued as a Republican since first winning election to the Senate in 1980. This would make Specter senior to all but a few Democrats when the Senate is scheduled to next organize committee assignments. (Panel positions for the 112th Congress will be decided after the 2010 election.)
But several senior Democrats have pushed back strongly against Reid’s deal with Specter, which was negotiated in secret.
Under pressure, Reid now says it will be up to the Democratic caucus to determine whether to recognize Specter’s 28 1/2 years of seniority.

The Obama administration is moving toward reviving the military commission system for prosecuting Guantánamo detainees, which was a target of critics during the Bush administration, including Mr. Obama himself. It is not clear how many detainees are likely to be prosecuted, but officials said Friday that some would be in federal courts. More from the New York Slimes:
