Estimates now at $73,000 for Obama’s “date night” in New York

$73,000 for a quick trip from DC to New York, a dinner, and a broadway show aka the “Obama Saturday Night date”. isn’t that sweet? After telling us how we all have to cut back, during a weekend with the upcoming Government Motors Bankruptcy announcement, $73,000 of tax payer money must just be a drop in the bucket. Watch uh… ummm uhhhh Robert Gibbs squirm when asked about the date night in New York today:

$73K and that’s just part of it. I remember when he went to Iowa on Earth Day and the figures quoted included: Marine One to/from Andrews AFB, Air Force One to/from Iowa, then Marine One again from the Iowa airport to/from the windmill factory.

How did Marine One magically appear in Iowa or NYC in this case. It was either flown or transported to these locales (I don’t recall if the VH-3 fits on a C-5. Let’s also not forget the Presidential limo that was used in NYC. There’s no way to get that on a Gulfstream. At a minimum a C-130 hauled to thing to NYC. But as the C-130 is probably not considered glamorous, they probably took it up there on a C-17.

I bet these additional costs were not included in the $73K

$73k could be a conservative estimate. Libby’s are whining about the many trips W took to Crawford during his administration. So they’re saying that was wrong, but this is not wrong? Give me a break. Crawford visits were ‘working’ trips for Bush. He could actually function as the POTUS while there, not like in the seat of an Opera House, or standing in line at a burger joint. Let’s not forget one of the first “Date nights” which involved a trip back to Chicago, with overnight stay, limos, AF-1, etc., this NYC trip probably pales in costs involved.

You’re not seriously suggesting that GWB was functioning as POTUS with a chainsaw in his hand while cutting “brush” and baking in the hot Texas sun, or are you?? He spent more time roaming on the range than behind his office desk in Crawford.
