$2 Billion more approved for Cash for Clunkers
Maybe this “infusion of cash” will allow the Cash for Clunkers program last two weeks this time? From CNN:
The House on Friday passed a bill to allocate another $2 billion to the Cash for Clunkers program.
The move came after reports on Thursday had raised concerns that the program was out of money.
The bill which diverts $2 billion from a U.S. Department of Energy program loan guarantee program, passed 316-109. The bill will face tough opposition in the Senate which is not expected to vote before Monday.
“I’m pleased about the progress made in the House today about the cash for clunkers program,” said President Obama, in a speech immediately following the vote.
The fate of the $1 billion trade-in program was thrown into question Thursday over concerns that it may have already burned through its funds less than a week after it was officially launched.

Cash for Clunkers turns into a clunker, out of money
Another day, another Obama failure. After only 1 week, Cash for clunkers has run out of money and the program will end at midnight tonight. The government is suspending the explosively popular ‘cash for clunkers’ program fearing it would go broke before it could parcel out what it still owes dealers for a huge backlog of sales. The pending suspension was confirmed by Bailey Wood, legislative director for the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), which had been called Thursday night by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which administers the program. Rep. Candice Miller, R-Mich., confirmed as well, saying she had been told by congressional leaders.
Beer Summit doesn’t turn out so great. Crowley and racist Gates hardly speak to each other and Biden mysteriously attends.

It didn’t appear chummy, but then again Gates has said Crowley racially profiled him, falsified a police report about him, and owes him an apology. Iranian Regime scumbags block Mousavi from Neda Memorial

Witnesses tell news agencies that Iranian police have arrested at least four people and prevented Iranian opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi from attending a ceremony Thursday afternoon at a Tehran cemetery marking the 40 day anniversary of 27-year-old Neda Agha Soltan’s death.
Unidentified witnesses told the Associated Press that hundreds of police surrounded Mousavi as he tried to approach the grave of Soltan, whose widely publicized shooting amid postelection violence fueled the opposition movement. The AP reports that Mousavi was forced to leave the cemetery but hundreds others gathered to mourn Soltan and others killed in the violence were allowed to stay.
Web sites affiliated with the opposition movement reported earlier Thursday that Mousavi and fellow presidential opposition candidate Mehdi Karoubi would attend the gathering at Behesht-e-Zahra cemetery, which coincides with other planned memorials and “silent wave” demonstrations across Iran.

U.S. Rep. Democrat Laura Richardson from California bought the house in the tree-lined upper-middle-class Curtis Park neighborhood for $535,000 in early 2007 after she was elected to the Assembly. She already owned two houses, one in her Long Beach district and the other in San Pedro. She has defaulted six times on both homes. You will noticed from the L.A. U.S. Rep. Laura Richardson’s rundown Sacramento house, which became the scourge of the neighborhood and a sore point with an investor who thought he had bought it out of foreclosure, has drawn the interest of a House ethics panel.
The Office of Congressional Ethics contacted real estate investor James York, who bought Richardson’s house at a foreclosure auction last year, only to have Washington Mutual take it back after he had recorded the deed and return the house to the congresswoman.
Blue Dog democrats cave on health care, just as expected

After days of intensive negotiations, a group of key moderate Democrats on Wednesday announced that they reached a health care reform deal with the White House and congressional leaders. The compromise would cut the cost of the $1 trillion-plus package by $100 billion, according to one member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition. The deal would also ensure that the proposed government-run insurance program would not be forced on anyone.
“We have reached an agreement that will allow health care reform to move forward,” said Rep. Mike Ross, D-Ark.
Seven Blue Dogs had held up passage of the bill in the House Energy and Commerce Committee over concerns about cost and the speed at which Democrats were advancing the legislation. The committee is the only House panel that hasn’t voted on the bill.
Ross said four of those seven agreed to the compromise Wednesday. But that gives Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif., enough votes for passage.

GOP Resolution Rips Democrats for Blocking Health Care Mailing
House Republicans on Wednesday filed a resolution that blasts Democrats for preventing GOP Members from sending constituents a mailing that criticizes the majority’s health care proposal. More from RollCall:
The resolution cites the “failure of the Democratic Members of the Franking Commission to ensure that the Commission’s Democratic staff carries out its important responsibilities in a professional, fair, and impartial manner.”
The dispute centers on a GOP chart that illustrates the organization of the Democratic health care plan with a convoluted maze of government offices and programs. Republicans are pressing to use taxpayer dollars to mail the chart to constituents, but their request continues to be reviewed by the franking commission.
“The Democrats’ plan would mean more bureaucracy, more taxes, more mandates, more government involvement in your life and fewer jobs in this struggling economy. They’re trying to restrict Members of Congress from showing it to their constituents, and that’s just wrong,” House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) said.
“I think the American people deserve the truth, and that’s why this resolution is important,” Boehner said.
Democrats maintain that sending out the chart as official mail would violate House rules because the information is misleading. Rules for franked mail bar Members from using taxpayer-funded mail for newsletters that use “partisan, politicized or personalized” comments to criticize legislation or policy.

The White House has taken on a wider role in forming a backup government in case a crisis forces officials to leave Washington.
Government officials familiar with the plans tell The New York Times that the initiative began during the final months of the Bush administration, and the Obama administration decided to leave it in place.
The White House Military Office will now lead the way in installing a “shadow government” should officials have to leave the capital because of a terrorist strike or some other catastrophe. The contingency plans include moving those officials to Mount Weather, Va. and running backup computer systems.
Previously, civilian agencies, led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, had many of these responsibilities.
But White House officials in the Bush administration were disappointed with civilian management of the response to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
The involvement of multiple agencies slowed things down, they found.
The civilian agencies, of course, weren’t too happy to see their power curtailed. They argued that the change gave too much authority to a small group inside the administration, and they expressed concern that Bush was concentrating too much power in the White House, The Times reports.
