Chip Reid and old witch Helen Thomas destroy Robert Gibbs for “controlled” Town Hall Meetings

“CBS’ Chip Reid and Helen Thomas double teamed Robert Gibbs today at the daily press briefing on the “tightly controlled” town hall meeting Obama held on health care. Gibbs kept saying lets have this discussion AFTER the meeting. Helen Thomas accused the White House of “controlling the press.” She said almost all White House/Obama events are “prepackaged.” She accused the White House of not “having any answers.”

After the press briefing, Helen Thomas told this to CNSNEWS:

“Nixon didn’t try to do that,” Thomas said. “They couldn’t control (the media). They didn’t try.

“What the hell do they think we are, puppets?” Thomas said. “They’re supposed to stay out of our business. They are our public servants. We pay them.”

Thomas said she was especially concerned about the arrangement between the Obama Administration and a writer from the liberal Huffington Post Web site. The writer was invited by the White House to President Obama’s press conference last week on the understanding that he would ask Obama a question about Iran from among questions that had been sent to him by people in Iran.

“When you call the reporter the night before you know damn well what they are going to ask to control you,” Thomas said.

“I’m not saying there has never been managed news before, but this is carried to fare-thee-well–for the town halls, for the press conferences,” she said. “It’s blatant. They don’t give a damn if you know it or not. They ought to be hanging their heads in shame.”

It is funny to me, after the Bush Town halls being KNOWN FOR screening out anyone NOT conservative and not allowing Thomas to even ASK a question in these briefings for years, that THIS is the complaint they are picking…..At least you’re talking, Ms. Thomas!

I don’t recall your being called on for YEARS under the last administration. That’s right you weren’t!

Hey Chip? I don’t recall CITIZENS [emailing in q's] during the Bush talks for Bush to answer either….hm, Obama has been doing that though. So Obama is LESS open than Bush? Amusing….

That said, I am not a huge Obama fan. He is still preferable to the last group in power…….which wouldn’t be that difficult, quite frankly
