   This is the second African American police officer I have seen on video that exhibited that he doesn’t know the law and/or chooses to selectively enforce it for one group and not another. As a veteran police officer for 33 years I am astonished, embarassed, pissed off, and can only say that what I saw is a violation of constitutional rights under color of law which is a felony in my state. I’m pissed off because I think that people looking now at TWO African American police officers (the first one was a lieutenant)doing things like this might try to lump the other 99% of minority police officers into the same category…dumb as a stump, obviously untrained, unable to think on his feet, and ignorant of the law. I can assure you almost ALL police officers… black, white, hispanic, asian, native american,male,female, short, tall, it won’t matter are going to be apalled and as embarassed as I am. If I were his chief I’d suspend him for a very long time and send him back to the basic recruit police academy for retraining. Once again we can thank another dummy police officer for making life even more difficult for minority officers everywhere that will lumped in with guys like this by every bigot in the country that wants to chalk it up to the results of affirmative action. On behalf of myself and probably tens of thousands of police officers that would feel the same way I do, I can only say “sorry sir, you were within your rights because we don’t just protect ‘popular’ speech,speech with which we agree,we protect all of it. Please sir, don’t judge the rest of us by the actions of this officer.”

   Let them know that, contrary to what their officer thinks, this is STILL America, the Constitution has not yet been scrapped, the First Amendment still applies, and their oath requires that they respect the right to free speech of all Americans, even when the officer does not like the speech. The First Amendment does not just protect speech the officer on the scene agrees with, and he is not free to implement his own mini-constitutional suspension zone.

   What amazed me most was towards the ending of this video where Officer Cheeks said, “It ain’t no more.” Here I thought the people in America were in denial of what’s really going on with our new administration. I was wrong. They know what’s going on and they are going along with it. Perhaps it’s a lack of education or first-hand experience about what it is like to be a free country and what a tyrannical country is like. Something is surely lacking with people today. Are these people delusional? Do they think freedom is passe and the new thing is no freedom? No freedom to speak what they think and feel, no freedom to live where they want, no freedom to get the education they want, to work the type of job they want, to go where they want? I’m sorry to say this but I’m sure Martin Luther King, Jr. did not mean for the U.S. to go in this direction. Dr. King was fighting for equality, freedom, and justice for all. Obama is taking the world backwards and he’s dragging people down. People need to pick themselves up–blacks included– work together to form a more perfect place. Anything less than a free and democratic (at least what democratic used to mean) society is stepping backwards in time to when the world was a horrific place live because of suppression.
