Rupert Murdoch to buy NBC/Universal?

A couple weeks ago there was discuss about Comcast possibly buying NBC/Universal, as GE looks to dump the failing liberal biased network that they’ve ruined. Today comes word that Rupert Murdoch News Corp (which owns Fox News) and John Malone’s Liberty Media Corp  are interested in NBC Universal, according to a report by CNBC, citing sources, Reuters reported today. I can just see it now. Hannity and Olbermann! Tingle Leg Chris Mattews and Bill Oreilly, and Greta and Maddow! Imagine! More from the Reuters story:

But GE, which has been pressured by investors to offload its 80 percent stake in NBC Universal, is considering a host of proposals for NBC Universal, as partner Vivendi SA (VIV.PA) explores whether to sell its 20 percent stake.

News Corp, which owns the Fox cable network and local TV stations, had been seen as a less likely bidder, analysts have said, because taking a stake in NBC might raise antitrust concerns with the U.S. government.

Liberty Media has been seen as possible bidder for a minority stake in NBC Universal because of its history of taking minority stakes in big media companies.

Spokespeople for GE, Comcast and News Corp were not immediately available. A spokeswoman for Liberty Media declined to comment. (Reporting by Yinka Adegoke; additional reporting by Robert MacMillan and Anupreeta Das in New York and Scott Malone in Boston)
