New Jersey Democratic State Committee admits paying for a robocall in Somerset County promoting the “independent” Chris Daggett

Does anyone else find this a tad odd? Why would the New Jersey Democratic State Committee admit to paying for robocalls in Somerset County to slam Republican Chris Christie and promote the so called independent gubernatorial candidate Christopher Daggett? Wouldn’t one tend to think that a Democrat State Committee would at least promote their own candidate Jon Corzine? Could it be Daggett’s sole purpose of being in this race in the first place is the drain votes from Christie in the first place? Politicker NJ has more:

A Democratic spokeswoman says the party’s chairman, Joe Cryan, was not aware of the robocalls when he denied that the state committee had anything to do with them yesterday afternoon.

Cryan, who told PolitickerNJ.com yesterday afternoon that the Democratic State Committee had “absolutely” nothing to do with the call, could not immediately be reached for comment.

The call angered Republicans and further fueled conspiracy theories that Daggett is in cahoots with the Corzine camp. A disclaimer at the end says it was paid for by Victory ’09, “a project of the NJDSC” (Democratic State Committee), and gave the committee’s Trenton address.

Daggett, for his part, disavowed the call.

“Voters hate robocalls. This is just another instance of the dishonest ways Democrats and Republicans use to win campaigns and to fool voters,” he said in a statement this afternoon. “It is little wonder more and more voters are rejecting these kind of desperate dirty tricks and turning to my campaign for a positive message about how to make New Jersey more affordable and competitive.’’

Before the Democrats owned up to it, Daggett media advisor Bill Hillsman said the call might be Republican trick to generate a sympathetic newspaper story.

In other robocall news, the Democratic State Committee is calling voters with a recording of President Obama imploring residents to “get out and vote on Tuesday, and vote for my friend and your governor, Jon Corzine.”

Something isn’t up to par here.

If Corzine really did pay for the calls, why where there so few made and only to Somerset county?

On the other hand, like I have been saying, the recent polls show that Dagget hurts Corzine and not Christie.
    http://njelection.wordpress.com/2009/10/30/daggett-hurts-corzine-and-helps-christie/

So Corzine does have motive to try to defect Daggett voters.

If voters jump the Daggett ship it will be good for Corzine. Polls show that 2 out of every 3 Daggett voters will vote Corzine when pushed to choose between Corzine and Christie.

In the end though, I would not doubt the GOP is somehow behind this as a publicity stunt.

And on Daggett’s defense, have you actually listened to the robo call? It simply says at the end when you vote remember what Chris Daggett said it is never wrong to vote for the right candidate.

How does this reflect badly on Daggett?

If Daggett really was a Corzine plant why would Daggett or Corzine let the cat out of the bag right before the election?

These calls were specifically made to Republican voters that are leaning Christie. From what I read Save Jersey (far right republican blog) broke the story when they received a robocall.

    Again, something fishy about this.

Just one more example of the dirty scandalous politics that happen in this state.

NJ today you have a choice to make, Vote for real change Chris Daggett. Or you can vote Christie or Corzine and spend next 4 years calling up NJ 101.5 FM complaining about the guy you chose
