North Dakota Senate race – Republican Governor John Hoeven leads Byron Dorgan by 22 percentage points!

obama-socialist.jpgShould current North Dakota Governor John Hoeven run against current Senator Byron Dorgan in 2010, he Hoeven should be able to easily snatch the senate seat away from another socialist who voted for cloture last night. In a state where Obama only has a 41% approval rating, which is lower than average Rasmussen’s latest poll finds Hoeven leading Dorgan 58%-36%. However, the other Republican challenger trails Dorgan 37%-52% if Hoeven doesn’t run.

Part of the challenge for Dorgan is the health care legislation working its way through Congress. Dorgan, along with every Democrat in the Senate, has voted to move the legislation forward and is expected to vote for final approval of the reform later this week. That’s not likely to be well received in North Dakota where just 30% favor the proposed health care reform plan and 64% are opposed.

Opposition to the health care plan is higher in North Dakota than it is nationally.
Eighty-four percent (84%) of those who strongly favor the plan support Dorgan. Eighty-six percent (86%) of those who strongly oppose it back Hoeven.

Actually it is Paul Sorum of Fargo who is running for the Senate in North Dakota and not John Hoeven. Hoeven is a big spender, ex Democrat, who has given money to Dorgan in the past. It’s hard to see him being able to run a credible campaign when Dorgan advertises all of that. Sorum is in the 40% right now in polling and is allied with a number of top GOP members. Sorum is on the rise and my prediction to be the next Senator of North Dakota. Hoeven would be more of the same for North Dakota. He is more of an Olympia Snowe type Republican.
