Obama’s official statement on Kwanzaa

obama-pictureObama took three days to issue any statements on the attempted Christmas day terrorist attack, took over 6 months to speak out against the Iranian government, but had no problem issuing a statement on Ramadan. Now, he’s also issued an “official” statement on Kwanzaa. L.A. Times has the transcript

Michelle and I send warm wishes to all those celebrating Kwanzaa this holiday season.

This is a joyous time of year when African Americans and all Americans come together to celebrate our blessings and the richness of our cultural traditions. This is also a time of reflection and renewal as we come to the end of one year and the beginning of another.

The Kwanzaa message tells us that we should recall the lessons of the past even as we seize the promise of tomorrow.

The seven principles of Kwanzaa — Unity, Self Determination, Collective Work and Responsibility, Cooperative Economics, Purpose, Creativity, and Faith — express the values that have inspired us as individuals and families; communities and country.

These same principles have sustained us as a nation during our darkest hours and provided hope for better days to come. Michelle and I know the challenges facing many African American families and families in all communities at this time, but we also know the spirit of perseverance and hope that is ever present in the community.

It is in this spirit that our family extends our prayers and best wishes during this season and for the New Year to come.    ####

I cannot get comfortable with obama’s using the 7 principles which use terms “collective work”. I remain convinced this man and his insiders will discount the individual for the good of the collective. Which means taking that which belongs to the individual (like our constitutional liberties) and take what we have –use it for what ever he feels is the collective need is.He is against capitolism and is working out his plan which has restitution for days of blsck slavery–he has no patriotic respect because that is through “white america”.

sorry, in my previous email I made a statement regarding obama’s lack of patriotism. I am blown away that we have a president who will not pledge allegiance to the flag by putting his hand over his heart. I can remember other black folk who feel the same disconnect and therefore meant that it may be due to the lack of respect for this country having a history of slavery and black repression. But he is the president yet he has a lack of respect!!!
This is what I gleaned from his description of kwansa. I think he is bitter regarding the practice of patriotism and considers it a white american practice.
