North Dakota Democrat state Senator Joel Heitkamp blames Obama administration for screwing up “centrists” chances to win Byron Dorgan’s seat
Joel Heitkamp is of course trying to bs people with his “centrist Democrats” crack, as there is no such thing as a moderate or “centrist” Democrat anymore. Still, watching the Democrat party come apart at the seams, in part because of Obama, but overall for their far left Europe style ideology is a thing of beauty. Lets take Democratic state Senator Joel Heitkamp example. Though he may now be considered “racist” for blaming anything on Obama, according to Politico, Heitkamp is blaming the Obama administration for placing red-state centrist Democrats in politically perilous positions.
“I don’t think the Obama administration has any perspective on how hard it is for a Democrat to be elected from a red state. I don’t think they have a clue,” said Heitkamp, who was a supporter of Obama’s North Dakota campaign effort. “There’s going to be fewer Democrats in red states until this administration understands there’s a middle of the road in this country.”
Heitkamp believes the administration should have focused on the economy and jobs in its first year, rather than force moderate Democrats into taking tough votes on complex and controversial health care legislation.
“I’m not convinced health care had to happen in the first year of the administration,” Heitkamp said.
Heitkamp, however, did not waste any time taking shots at Republican Gov. John Hoeven, who is expected to jump into the U.S. Senate race within weeks and immediately become a heavy favorite in a Republican-oriented state.
“John Hoeven can be beaten. Earl Pomeroy can beat him. Heidi Heitkamp, my sister, can beat him. John Hoeven’s on cruise control. You just set it. If you ask John Hoeven who will win the Super Bowl, he’d say, ‘I don’t know, what do you think?’”
Heitkamp said he spoke with his sister, Heidi, the state’s former attorney general, Tuesday but did not discuss their political futures.
“I haven’t even thought about it,” said Joel Heitkamp, about a potential U.S. Senate bid.
“It’d be inappropriate. All [Heidi] said was, ‘How can we convince him to reconsider?’”
“You can tell by my comments I’m pissed,” Heitkamp added, noting that his anger was not toward Dorgan. “This is a man I would’ve walked through fire for.”
