Looks like Pelosi has the 216 votes needed for government takeover of health care

This Fox News article reports that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Friday has finally reached 216 YES votes, the magic number of votes she needs for health care reform to pass, after Rep. Suzanne Kosmas, D-Fla., switched to a “yes.” But there’s still a day and a half remaining before the House votes — a lifetime in politics in which anything can happen.

The tally isn’t official tally but represents an estimate by Fox News of all the lawmakers who have gone on the record with their position. There are still “undecided” votes out there and the “maybes” are not being listed.

That said, the vote tally on Friday has looked much like the Dow.

In one day, Pelosi came within one vote of the magic number before losing ground, then regaining her footing and finally landing on 216.

Earlier Friday, Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., said he’s switching to a “no” vote, dialing back the number of House members leaning toward voting yes to 214, and the number leaning toward voting no to 217.

But then Rep. Allen Boyd, R-Fla., said he’s flipping to a “yes” vote, bringing Pelosi back to 215.

    NO! If she had the votes on the 19, she would have held the vote on the 19th, and be damned the supposed 72 hour period for the public to view the bill.

    That 72 hour BS was only because THEY NEVER DID HAVE THE VOTES!

    Stupak is still not in the bag and there are still 36 moderate dems till on the fence.

    Calling these dems (see the link for the list) is CRUCIAL before the vote. NOW is the TIME to ACT!
