Discrimination isn’t it? Google plans to pay gay employees more heterosexual ones

Now isn’t this a pay discrimination class action suit based on sexual orientation waiting to happen? What would happen if a company decided to pay heterosexuals employees more money based on their sexuality? I guess in this upside down progressive liberal world I shouldn’t even bother wondering anymore. Google is set to begin covering a cost that gay and lesbian employees must pay when their partners receive domestic partner health benefits, according to MSNBC who is absolutely giddy at this news.

The real sad thing is that Google’s move could inspire its Silicon Valley competitors to follow suit, as they compete for the same talent. And before you left wing nut start calling me anti-homosexual, I’m just wondering why it’s ok to discriminate against one group in favor of another. Isn’t that exactly what the progressive liberals claim to fight against?

No because the fact that there is an extra charge at all is discriminatory. If we’d just legalize gay marriage and the rights that go with it, this would not be an issue.

It’s not discrimination because it levels the uneven playing field wherein same-sex couples suffer a tax penalty for utilizing partner benefits. They are only being reimbursed for the tax consequences of the benefits so that they truly receive equal pay and benefits to heterosexuals. That is called rectifying the injustice of a discriminatory tax policy.

If you really care about discrimination, you would advocate for the tax code to treat same-sex couples the same as opposite sex couples, including with regard to benefits. Until then, you lack credibility to call Google out as discriminatory.

First, let me state that I am a conservative/libertarian/Constitutionalist that has been outspoken about letting gay people get married. I want to put this behind us, allow them to be conservatives, and move on yet I want gay people to stop trying to impose their will on the Church. In essence; it feels like bigotry to me and I don’t like it. Having said that any policy, law, rule, regulation, that discriminates against others soley based upon race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation is also bigotry and wrong. “Leveling the playing field” is code talk for screwing others and taking things away from them. The Libertarian in me thinks that Google can pay whomever they want to pay whatever they wish to pay and it’s none of my business so long as they’re a private company. If we don’t like what Google is doing then we all can let them know by not giving them our business or supporting their sponsors. Perhaps someone that is in incensed by their actions can start their own company and challenge them.

it’s discrimination. plain and simple. If you cannot admit that then you are ok with discrimination as long as it is not against the gay community.

I am sick and tired of people that are discriminated against saying they want equality but really push for superiority.

Some of your commenters seems confused. Gays can get married. Their complaint is not being allowed to marry someone of the same gender. Marriage is between a man and a woman. A gay guy can marry a woman just like a straight guy can marry a woman. That is not discriminatory. There have always been rules in society about what marriages are legally acceptable. You can’t marry your dog or your horse. You can’t marry your brother or sister. Maybe the best route for them to take would be to come up with another name for their union. If marriage is a permanent union between people of opposite genders, maybe queeriage can be a permanent relationship between same gender.

Rectifying the injustice of a discriminatory tax policy is the job of the government, not Google, or any other employer subject to federal Equal Opportunity employment laws.
For google to award one group a high pay rate based solely upon the sexual orientation violates multiple discrimination laws.
The only basis for awarding an employee a higher pay rate is the merit (on the job), and experience and skills the employee brings to the job.
To award higher pay based on sexual orientation is illegal, and should be, as it gives favor to a group of employees based on sex and not their qualifications.
Google is certainly doing this just to make a political point, but it’s wrong and unfair to their employees as not only is it discriminatory in nature, it uses their employees as pawns in political agenda, and opens the company up to civil litigation, which in the end when Google looses, because they are most definitely in the wrong in doing this, will hurt the entire company and all employees.

Greg: You hit the nail on the head. The code talk “equality” means nothing of the sort. It DOES mean giving one group an advantage over another. “Leveling the playing field” means tipping the playing field to the advantage of one group over another. “Social Justice” means nothing of the sort and usually results in social injustice to one group or another.
Largebill: you’re absolutely right, can’t dispute the merits of your argument. I only wish the government would stop interfering with our lives… period. If gays want to get married in a gay church then… let them. Who is it hurting? If heterosexuals want to get married in Vegas instead of a church then let them. We have laws preventing beastiality, incest, and other perversions already. My bigger point is that many gay people are just as conservative as the rest of us and they’re trapped into voting for one party because of this issue. If “gayness” is learned then how is it that we, as children could pick out the kids that were more than likely gay? Come on! They’re born that way and deep down we all know it. They can’t help it no more than heterosexuals can help admiring and pursuing pretty women. I say we let them get married, ask them for “two snaps and a swirl” and then welcome them as conservatives… who happen to be gay. There’s bigger issues out there.

Every other commenter here aside from the first two is a moronic child.

In the end, Google is paying everyone THE SAME AMOUNT. The higher pay for gay and lesbian couples is to counteract the tax breaks that hetero couples receive. No one is getting special treatment.

Once again, everyone is paid THE SAME AMOUNT in the end.

Actually, in reading the news article it sounds pretty even footed to me.  Google is going above and beyond to ensure ALL of their employees are ending up on the same pay scale, respectively.
