Originally, it was reported that Mitt Romney won the first in the nation Iowa Republican caucus which was held on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012. Romney beat second place Rick Santorum by a mere eight votes, making the Iowa Republican Caucus of 2012 the closest in history. But there was some dispute of the final vote total, as a Ron Paul supporter who helped in the vote counting process claims he had a 20-vote discrepancy to what the final total was, giving Romney the eight vote win. As it Santorum finished as the winner of the Iowa Republican caucuses by just 34 votes ahead of Mitt Romney.
