Colorado Republican Caucus – February 7, 2012
The biggest shocker of the night of February 7th, 2012 was the Colorado Republican caucus. Polls suggested that Rick Santorum would win the Missouri “beauty contest” primary. Polls also suggested Rick Santorum would win the caucuses in Minnesota. But the only known polls of the Colorado caucuses was from left wing polling outfit PPP. There were two polls conducted just days before the Colorado caucus showing Mitt Romney with a double digit lead over Santorum for the win. PPP of course isn’t the most accurate polling outfit around, but it’s not usually this far off. Mitt Romney won the Colorado Republican caucuses in 2008 over John McCain 60% to 18.4%. So it was widely assumed Mitt Romney would cruise in Colorado. Turns out, it was Rick Santorum who cruised to a relatively easily victory outperforming the left wing polling outfit PPP’s numbers. Santorum won Colorado with 40.3% of the caucus goers vote, compared to Romney’s 34.9%.
