Insider trading? 19 Democrats and 15 Republicans reworked their portfolios during 2008 financial crisis after meeting and calls with Paulson, Geithner and Bernanke
Want to see another way politicians can screw you regardless of what party they belong too? Washington Post has an article detailing meetings and phone calls between Hank Paulson, Tim Geithner and Ben Bernanke and 35 members of Congress, right before the 2008 financial crisis. The 35 members of Congress were 19 Democrats (including then Speaker Nancy Pelosi) and 15 Republicans (including Weeper Boehner.)
The lawmakers, many of whom held leadership positions and committee chairmanships in the House and Senate, changed portions of their portfolios a total of 166 times within two business days of speaking or meeting with the administration officials.
The period covered by The Post analysis was a grim one for the U.S. economy, and many people rushed to reconfigure their investment portfolios.
