Rep. Jason Chaffetz schools Bill O’Reilly on the Second Amendment (Video)

bill-oreilly_0Must be something in the water in New York. You have New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg calling on cops to go on strike until stricter gun laws are passed. And Fox News gasbag Bill O’Reilly is also trying to trample on the Second Amendment with assault weapons. Problem for O’Reilly is that he invited Jason Chaffetz on his show to debate his whacked out idea. Chaffetz absolutely destroyed O’Reilly.

And then there’s this from Andrea Ryan on Gateway Pundit:

Bill O’Reilly was wrong and Senator Chaffetz was completely correct. A simple reading of the ATF’s own website is irrefutable support that Bill O’Reilly was ranting on a topic he knows nothing about. And it’s a dangerous rant, because it incites people based on misinformation. For someone to call an AK-47 (a gun that could be, and is, used for hunting) “heavy armor” and “heavy armament” and then lump it in with mortars and heavy artillery is astoundingly uninformed. And then shame on Bill O’Reilly to tell Senator Chaffetz, who does know and understand the Federal laws, that he was wrong.

The Federal government requires a $200 SOT Tax Stamp for certain firearms listed below, along with an NFA application, a background check, and approval by the ATF, as well as, the local Chief Law Enforcement Officer. It’s an extremely rigorous and expensive process. The government makes it very difficult to own one of these and they make the burden on the individual to get it right quite brutal. Note: the machine guns that Bill O’Reilly said you can “just grab one at a gun show” are on the ATF’s list. You can’t just grab one at a gun show. This even applies to any piece of metal, i.e. a seer, that allows a rifle to become fully automatic.

The process takes many, many months. And if an owner wants to give or sell any of these firearms to another individual they must repeat the process, along with another $200 payment to the ATF.

BOR is normally very rational and that is why I watch his program.  But in this interview, he was just as much of a silly fool as anything I have seen from Rosie or the Hollywood left.  And the facts are so easy to find on this issue!

First, just like with Columbine, the loony left concentrates on the firearms used in the murders and not on the illegal bombs.  Why they think that banning a firearm would have stopped the carnage perpetrated by a person adept at building bombs and hell bent on killing people is beyond me.

A can of gasoline can kill more people than a firearm can.  Remember the “Happy Land” social club fire in the Bronx in which 87 people died in 1990?  Surely you do.

Bill- While you can buy an inert launcher tube, the “bazooka” is not a “heavy weapon” but a destructive device that is under similar regulations as bombs that the law was supposed to prohibit.   I have been to many gun shows but have never seen either a “bazooka” or a real machine gun.

Most of the tens of millions of deer rifles used in this country would fall under your “heavy weapons” caliber that you are ranting to be counted and registered.

Machine guns that are legal to own in some states are too valuable and dangerous to be put on public display at any gun show.  There have only been two incidents of misuse of a legally owned fully automatic weapon, and one of those cases involved an off duty policeman who shot an intruder.

Anyone with a file can turn a legal semi-automatic firearm into a fully automatic one. But doing is is just as much a felony as booby-trapping an apartment.  How’s that law working out to totally stop these incidents?

O’reilly was wrong on soo many levels. The guy is absolutely clueless. The term semi-automatic is misunderstood by everyone in the media. If they ban semi-autos they take away prob 80%+ of all guns… That just gets me when these morons say things like that.
