Harry Reid might be violating Senate ethics rules by attacking Mitt Romney using official press release

dingy-harry-reidEthics? Harry Reid and the Democrats don’t need no stinking ethics! According to the Senate Select Committee on Ethics,

“Senate resources may only be used for official purposes. The General Appropriations statute, 31 U.S.C § 1301, provides that official funds are to be used only for the purposes for which they were appropriated. No official resources may be used to conduct campaign activities.”

Yet Harry Reid used his official website to issue a press release bashing Mitt Romney about ‘Being Dishonest About Your Taxes.’ So I guess Reid has moved on from trying to get Romney to release his tax returns to bashing Romney statements about what he will do with taxes once elected president. Problem for Dingy Harry are the rules above. Senate resources are only to be used for ‘official purposes.’ Bashing a candidate via a press release through the tax payer funded website and server isn’t official business last I checked.

Of course, it’s not like the press will hold Reid accountable, nor will the ball-less Senate Republican, so move along, nothing to see here.
