Speaking of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act – why does Obama pay women staff 18 percent less than males?
One of the topics that came up during last night’s debate was the about why some women are not paid as much as their male counterparts. My position is if you have a female in the same job as a male, and she does just as good work, why not pay her what she’s worth, whether that’s equal or more than a man makes. I’d assume that the vast majority of males in this country have the same position. Yet Obama always rambles on and on about how he’s such a fighter for women, and that he’s the one who signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. But I noticed a funny thing. Obama pays males White House staffers about 18% more ($71,000) than his female staffers ($60,000/year.) Why is that Mr. President? I thought you were the champion of equal pay for women? Seems kind of hypocritical doesn’t it?
Female employees in the Obama White House make considerably less than their male colleagues, records show.
According to the 2011 annual report on White House staff, female employees earned a median annual salary of $60,000, which was about 18 percent less than the median salary for male employees ($71,000).
Calculating the median salary for each gender required some assumptions to be made based on the employee names. When unclear, every effort was taken to determine the appropriate gender.
