Sources said the job discussions are far from anything other than preliminary, and were not part of any “deal” when Specter switched parties and began supporting President Obama’s agenda in earnest. Neither the White House nor Specter had any comment.

Talk of such a job, however, has raised eyebrows among Specter’s Republican Senate colleagues who are now eyeing his votes with added scrutiny. For instance, Specter seemed not particularly impressed with Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan, whose nomination as Solicitor General Specter opposed last year. This week he announced support for her Supreme Court nomination.

With just about 10 days left until the primary, 12 percent of the 404 likely primary voters in the daily canvass are still undecided. We suppose the airwaves blitz by both campaigns will only intensify in the final days of the race.

Meanwhile, not much has changed in the race for the Democratic nomination for governor.

Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato is still on top, taking 36 percent of a hypothetical primary vote. Perhaps buoyed by his own massive airwaves buy, state Sen. Anthony Williams, D-Philadelphia, moves from third place to second place, taking 12 percent of the vote.

Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel and Auditor General Jack Wagner each have 8 percent. And, as ever, a third of voters (36 percent) remain undecided.

“The arrangement I had with Reid [D-Nev.] is that I would have the same seniority as if I had been elected as a Democrat in 1980,” Specter said in an interview with The Hill. “I would be behind [Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick] Leahy [D-Vt.], and when he moved up to chairman of Appropriations, I would move to chairman of Judiciary.”

When Specter switched to the Democratic Party almost a year ago, he was given the last seat on the dais of the Judiciary and Appropriations panels.

He has since turned into a model member of the Democratic Conference, voting with party leaders more than 95 percent of the time, and worked to convince his fellow Democrats to support his deal with Reid.

“Sen. Reid and Sen. Leahy worked it out with half a dozen of my colleagues that I would be ahead of them on Judiciary,” Specter said. “On Appropriations, this is something that Reid is working on now. The issue is not over.”

A spokesman for Reid declined to comment.

The exchange, broadcast on 1210 AM’s Dom Giordano Show [but not archived on the station's site], began when Specter challenged Bachmann to articulate what, exactly, she stands for, according to a readout on the clash published by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s lively Early Returns blog.

Bachmann first laid out her agenda — cutting taxes and killing President Obama’s health reform bill — at considerable length.

When Specter tried to counter, Bachmann, darling of the Tea Party movement, kept on talking, which didn’t sit well with the one-time Philadelphia DA, who is a stickler for politeness and protocol.

“I’m going to treat you like a lady,” Mr. Specter shot back. “Now act like one.”

Ms. Bachmann replied, “I am a lady.”

Things went on along this line for a while — with Specter later asking Bachmann to “act like a lady,” according to the PPG’s Daniel Malloy.

Bachmann is hardly a beloved figure in Democratic circles. But how many liberal women, whom Specter badly needs to defeat front-running Paul Toomey, would appreciate being told to “act like a lady” by a male debate partner?

Here’s a hint to the old, senile, washed up Specter, maybe you out to read bills and become familiar with the legislation you are so anxious to sign!

“Rush will not get his wish and Mr. Cheney was misinformed. I am still a Republican,” Powell said, noting that he “voted solidly for Republican candidates” for president for 20 years, spent 10 years of his life serving in Republican administrations and spoke at two GOP conventions.

“You know, neither (Cheney) nor Rush Limbaugh are members of the membership committee of the Republican Party. I get to make my decision on that,” Powell said. “And so I will continue to work in a way that I think is helpful to the country and helpful to the party.”

He said the reason he endorsed Barack Obama for president last fall — a decision that prompted a wave of conservative discontent with Powell — was he believed Obama was “best-qualified” to lead.

Oh BTW, how smart is Colin Powell? He claims to have voted for Lyndon Johnson AND Jimmy Carter. (Unless he confused Obama with the Peanut farmer).
