Yahoo/Reuters seems to think Charlie Rangel is a Republican! Did I miss his party switch over the last 30 or so years? Update: Rangel to take a “leave of absence until investigation is over?”

Democrats, who are obviously very worried about their elections come November are jumping on the dump Rangel bandwagon! Rangel suffered a significant blow Tuesday afternoon when Rep. Artur Davis – a member of both the Ways and Means Committee and the Congressional Black Caucus who’s running for governor back home in Alabama – issued a statement in which he said the chairman “should do the right thing and step aside.”

Another Democrat member told POLITICO Tuesday night:

“I think Charlie should do the right thing and step down. We expected that out of Tom DeLay. He should do the honorable thing … There’s no double standard. “

For a few days, the New York Democrat’s grip on power seemed steady even after the House ethics committee found him in violation of House gift rules last week. Speaker and Rangel ally Nancy Pelosi (DCal.) vowed to wait to see if ethics acts on more of the allegations that have been lodged against him.

But Republicans are planning to bring a resolution to the House floor calling for his removal as chairman, and Democratic aides said Tuesday that the party’s most vulnerable incumbents are not willing to risk the electoral fallout that would come from standing by the 39-year House veteran.

If all House members vote and all 178 Republicans favor removing Rangel, the GOP would need 39 Democrats to turn against the chairman to win the vote. By Tuesday night, at least 14 Democrats had said Rangel should give up his chairmanship – and it was clear that more were coming.

Rangel declined to talk with reporters at the Capitol Tuesday night. A source close to him pushed back against rumors that he planned to step aside from his Ways and Means post, saying Rangel wanted to wait until the House votes so that he can “see what his strength was.”

A senior aide to a vulnerable House Democrat said that Rep. Joe Crowley, an ally of Rangel who has also played a leadership role at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, is leading the whip count efforts on Rangel, acting a go-between between the vulnerable freshman and sophomore Democrats, on the one hand, and Rangel and Democratic leadership on the other.

So much for the “most ethical congress ever” and “draining the swamp” by Nancy Pelosi. On ABC this past weekend, Nancy Pelosi, said that Rangel’s participation in the corporate-sponsored trips wasn’t something that had “jeopardized our country in any way,” and she made it clear that she has no intention of taking away Rangel’s chairmanship unless and until the ethics committee determines that he’s guilty of a number of ethics violations it’s currently investigating.

“Well, let’s … why don’t we just give him a chance to hear what the independent, bipartisan [ethics committee says] — they work very hard to reach their conclusions, and we … obviously, there’s more to come here,” Pelosi said.

The Caribbean trips were just a small part of Rangel’s case before the ethics committee. Over the past 18 months, the committee has been investigating a number of issues involving his personal finances, including Rangel’s failure to report hundreds of thousands of dollars on income and assets; his fundraising on behalf of the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service at City College in New York; his use of multiple, rent-stabilized apartments in Harlem; and his failure to pay taxes on a Dominican Republic vacation home.

Pelosi said she hopes the committee will resolve those issues “soon,” but she cautioned that the panel is “independent” and works at “their own pace.”

Ethics Panel Finds Charlie Rangel Broke House Rules

Its been a very bad day for marxistcrats all around. They get destroyed at the health care summit, and now this! It must have been very painful, but NBC (via the AP) is reporting that the House ethics committee has concluded that Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel knowingly accepted Caribbean trips in violation of House rules that forbid hidden financing by corporations A congressional source familiar with the findings but not authorized to be quoted by name said at least four of members of the Congressional Black Caucus on the trips in 2007 and 2008 have been exonerated.

Last year the House ethics committee expanded its investigation of Rangel to include his revisions to financial statements that revealed assets and income not previously reported.

Earlier the Harlem Democrat had withstood a GOP sponsored resolution that called for Rangel to to surrender his chairmanship of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.

The ethics committee was also looking into Rangel’s use of multiple rent-stabilized apartments, his fundraising on behalf of the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service at City College in New York, and his failure to pay taxes on a Dominican Republic vacation home.

Rangel is also being investigated in a separate ethics committee probe of Caribbean trips in 2007-08 by five members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

The committee has authorized nearly 150 subpoenas in the investigation of Rangel, has interviewed some 34 witnesses and reviewed more than 12,000 pages of documents.

Rangel is one of the most influential members of Congress because the committee he chairs writes laws setting tax rates and oversees Medicare and Social Security benefits. The decision is certain to raise questions whether he can continue that role in an election year in which Congress must deal with several expiring tax laws.

Embattled Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) will face a 2010 primary challenge from one of his own former campaign directors.

Vince Morgan, a New York community banker who at one time worked for crook Charlie Rangel as a special assistant and campaign director, announced Monday that he would challenge Rangel for reelection. According to The Hill, Morgan’s announcement follows months of ethical scrutiny surrounding Rangel’s alleged failure to pay taxes on income from a villa he rents, in addition to several other accusations of financial impropriety against the congressman.

“It’s time for change,” Morgan said Monday in a press release. “Our district needs new leadership that is in touch with the community and the issues that confront us today.”

While Morgan’s barebones website makes no mention of the cloud that has hung over Rangel, the challenge comes on the heels of a tough week for the longtime incumbent. Rangel survived an effort last Wednesday by Republicans to strip him of his position as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, but now faces an even more expansive inquiry from the House ethics committee.

House Committee To Expand Rangel Investigation

WCBS in New York has posted that a House committee voted unanimously today to expand its investigation into New York’s slimy, corrupt Democratic Rep. You may remember during the summer Rangel’s sudden recollection of at least $500,000 in cash assets and tens of thousands of dollars of investment income that were never decleared. The House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct issued a statement on Thursday that is now going to investigate his apparent lapses in memory as part of a probe that has already lasted 16 months. In its statement, the committee wrote:

“The Committee on Standards of Official Conduct voted unanimously on October 8, 2009 to expand the jurisdiction of the investigative subcommittee’s inquiry regarding the Matter of Representative Charles B. Rangel to determine if Rep. Rangel violated the Coe of Official Conduct or any law, rule, regulation, or other standard of conduct applicable to his conduct in the performance of his duties or the discharge of his responsibilities with respect to all Financial Disclosure Statements and all amendments filed in calendar year 2009 by or on behalf of Representative Charles B. Rangel pursuant to Title I of the Ethics in Government Act.

“The investigative subcommittee has collaborated in a bipartisan manner in the performance of its duties and obligations. To that end, the investigative subcommittee to date has: authorized the issuance of close to 150 subpoenas; interviewed approximately 34 witnesses resulting in over 2,100 pages of transcripts; reviewed and analyzed over 12,000 pages of documents; and held over 30 investigative subcommittee meetings.”

Recently, the National Organization for Marriage, a group that opposes gay marriage. put out a Youtube video with Miss California Carrie Prejean, then the now infamous flaming Perez Hilton’s (whose real name is Mario Lavandeira) dumb bitch comment. It seems ole Perez wanted to hide it in shame, and got it removed from youtube due to copyright infringements. Well too bad “Perez”. Patterico just uploaded another copy of the video ad.

Personally, I never really used to care one way or another if gays got married. However, after seeing the utter BS same sex marriage loony toons have pulled, ever since it was voted down in California (of all places), and then this Perez Hilton flaming slander, I have officially jumped on the anti-gay marriage bandwagon!

When confronted by Mattera, Charlie Rangel had message for Jason and all you other “annoying” tax payers curious about his publicly-subsidized Cadillac, unpaid taxes, and shady rental property deals:

Fox 5 New York reported last night that Sen. Charles Schumer tops the donor list of Madoff and his family, at $29,300. Schumer’s office said it had donated $8,000 of the stash to police and fire endowments.

Others who got donations from Madoff or his family were Democratic NJ Sen. Frank Lautenberg, who got $11,600; Hillary Rodham Clinton, who got nearly $9,000 for her Senate and presidential campaigns; disgraced former Republican Rep. Vito Fossella and Democratic Rep.
