Before you puke, this isn’t confirmed or anything. But as Hotair notes, there are whispers among multiple Senate aides that friend of Angelo Chris Dodd could replace current Treasury Secretary Turbo Tax Timothy Geithner!

Speculation has also begun about potential employment for Dodd in the Obama administration.

For instance, several Democratic Senate aides noted that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is an extremely unpopular figure in the Senate. Geithner has also taken the brunt of the criticism for the administration’s handling of the economy and, these sources speculated, if the country’s financial picture does not brighten before Election Day, he could be the first secretary to leave the administration.

Although Dodd would appear to be well-situated to take control of Treasury if the position were to open, it may not be smooth sailing for his nomination.

Chris Dodd will NOT seek Senate re-election in November

These Democrats are dropping like flies today! First it was Byron Dorgan, then it was Bill Ritter, now its friend of Angelo Chris Dodd. Looks like Obama’s begging of Dodd to not seek re-election finally worked, knowing there was no way in hell that Dodd would win come November. According to the Washington Post, embattled Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd (D) has scheduled a press conference at his home in Connecticut Wednesday at which he is expected to announce he will not seek re-election, according to sources familiar with his plans.

Dodd’s retirement comes after months of speculation about his political future, and amid faltering polling numbers and a growing sense among the Democratic establishment that he could not win a sixth term. It also comes less than 24 hours after Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) announced he would not seek re-election.

State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is widely expected to step into the void filled by Dodd and, at least at first blush, should drastically increase Democrats’ chances of holding the seat.

Blumenthal, who has served as state Attorney General since 1990, is the most popular politician in the state and has long coveted a Senate seat; he had already signaled that he would run for the Democratic nomination against Sen. Joe Lieberman (I) in 2012. (A sidenote: Assuming Blumenthal gets in to the race, Rep. Chris Murphy could be the long-term beneficiary as he is widely regarded as a rising star and would be at the top of the list of Democratic hopefuls to challenge Lieberman in 2012.)

Without Dodd as a foil, Republicans chances of taking over a seat in this solidly blue state are considerably diminished. Former Rep. Rob Simmons and wealthy businesswoman Linda McMahon are battling it out for the Republican nod but either would start as an underdog in a general election matchup with Blumenthal.

Dodd joins North Dakota Sen. Byron Dorgan on the sidelines for Democrats. Six Republicans Senators are not seeking re-election in November.

Dodd’s retirement comes roughly two years after his presidential ambitions came to an end in the Iowa caucuses. Dodd, always a longshot in a field filled with better known and better financed candidates, had moved his family to the Hawkeye State in the fall of 2007 in hopes of generating some excitement for his bid. The move backfired on the Democratic incumbent as many Connecticut voters bristled.

Dodd’s political problems were further compounded later in 2008 when it was reported that he had been included in a special VIP mortgage loan program by Countrywide CEO Angelo Mozilo. Dodd insisted he was unaware of his inclusion and he was cleared of any wrongdoing by the Senate Ethics Committee but the political damage was done.

Once among the safest of incumbents, Dodd’s numbers plummeted in the spring of 2009 before rebounding somewhat over the summer. But, a Quinnipiac University poll conducted late last year showed significant slippage for Dodd and led to widespread speculation that he had to vacate the seat for his party to have a chance at retaining it in the upcoming midterm elections.

Dodd’s troubles were politically ironic, coming at a time when his power on Capitol Hill had reached a breath-taking level that most legislators dream of but never come close to achieving. In the last 18 months Dodd has been the primary author or co-author of legislation re-writing housing mortgage rules; the $700 billion bailout of Wall Street; key portions of the $787 billion stimulus package; a consumer protection bill overseeing the credit card industry; and the nearly $900 billion health-care legislation that has passed the Senate is in final negotiations with the House now.

Chris Dodd’s Own Poll Still Shows Him Trailing Republicans

Friend of Angelo Chris Dodd’s (D-Conn.) campaign released their own polling memo today showing him tied or trailing two of the Republicans in the race. The memo, titled “Chris Dodd Can Win Next November,” only shows the vulnerable Democratic senator can win in an informed ballot test. According to CQ Politics:

In the poll paid for by Dodd’s campaign, he is tied with former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon (R) at 46 percent. Dodd is trailing Republican former Rep. Rob Simmons), 46 percent to 51 percent. The Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research poll tested the opinions of 601 likely voters from Dec. 15 to 17, plus had a margin of error of 4 percent.

McMahon also released her own poll over the weekend showing her barely leading Simmons in the GOP primary, 37 percent to 35 percent. Businessman Peter Schiff (R) scored 4 percent in the poll, while 25 percent were undecided. The poll, performed by McMahon pollster Moore Information, surveyed 400 likely GOP primary voters from Dec. 15 to 16 and had a margin of error of 4.9 points.

This must be the so called “mystery hospital” I mentoned earlier. Chris Dodd, aka Friend of Angelo got another sweetheart deal. This is a $100 million addition to the Senate health care bill for Chris Dodd is $100 million for construction of a University of Connecticut Hospital! AP reports:

WASHINGTON — A $100 million item for construction of a university hospital was inserted in the Senate health care bill at the request of Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., who faces a difficult re-election campaign, his office said Sunday night.

The legislation leaves it up to the Health and Human Services Department to decide where the money should be spent, although spokesman Bryan DeAngelis said Dodd hopes to claim it for the University of Connecticut.

The provision is included in a 383-page series of changes to the health care bill that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., outlined Saturday. Scattered throughout are numerous items sought by individual lawmakers, many of them directing money explicitly to programs or projects in their home states.

The one sought by Dodd provides $100 million for “a health care facility that provides research, inpatient tertiary care, or outpatient clinical services.” It must be affiliated with an academic health center at a public research university in the United States “that contains a State’s sole public academic medical and dental school.”

The money can cover a maximum of 40 percent of the facility’s construction costs.

Based on the criteria set out on the bill, it appeared that state-affiliated hospitals in about a dozen states could compete for the funds.

Remember this happened to New York Governor David Paterson when Obama asked him to drop out of the 2010 Governor race? Now there’s rumors going that nervous Connecticut Democratic leaders have asked on of the Friends of Angelo Chris Dodd to drop out the 2010 state Senate race. Dodd of course denies these rumors according to Political Wire:

Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-CT) was “asked about rumors that some anxious Connecticut Democratic leaders have urged him to consider stepping out of the 2010 Senate race in favor of Attorney General Richard Blumenthal,” the Hartford Courant reports.

However, Dodd said he had not been directly confronted by party officials and quipped, ‘they can’t be more anxious about it than I am.”

Chris Dodd is way behind Republican challenger Rob Simmons 48% to 35%. Even some wrestling owner Linda McMahon leads Dodd 44%-38%. May choice for the seat Peter Schiff only leads Dodd by one point 40%-39%.

Rob Simmons outraises Chris Dodd for third quarter of 2009

Rob Simmons announced that he has raised $970,000 for the 3rd quarter of this year, outraising corrupt Democrat Chriss Dodd who announced that he raised $900,000 in the third fundraising quarter. According to Politico, Dodd’s total also falls well short of the $1.2 million that he raised during the second fundraising quarter, and will be one of the lowest for incumbent senators facing competitive re-election bids.

Dodd’s campaign noted that the senator was sidelined for much of August recovering from surgery to treat his prostate cancer, and spent July working tirelessly on marking up the health care legislation as chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.

The campaign also added that Obama will be in Connecticut later this month to headline a Dodd fundraiser, which is expected to net at least $1 million to his campaign coffers.

Despite their denials, influential Democratic Sens. Kent Conrad and Chris Dodd were told from the start they were getting VIP mortgage discounts from one of the nation’s largest lenders, the official who handled their loans has told Congress in secret testimony. More from Breitbart:

Both senators have said that at the time the mortgages were being written they didn’t know they were getting unique deals from Countrywide Financial Corp., the company that went on to lose billions of dollars on home loans to credit-strapped borrowers. Dodd still maintains he got no preferential treatment.

Dodd got two Countrywide mortgages in 2003, refinancing his home in Connecticut and another residence in Washington. Conrad’s two Countrywide mortgages in 2004 were for a beach house in Delaware and an eight-unit apartment building in Bismarck in his home state of North Dakota.

Robert Feinberg, who worked in the Countrywide’s VIP section, told congressional investigators last month that the two senators were made aware that “who you know is basically how you’re coming in here.”

Hopefully the next time this idiot Orrin Hatch is up for election in Utah, the people of the state vote him out. Chris Dodd, one of the most corrupt democrat senators out there (and that’s really saying something) is being slurped by Hatch. In an interview that aired on National Public Radio on Thursday morning, Hatch praised Dodd as “one of the better senators here.” From the Hill:

Hatch was being interviewed alongside Dodd on Democratic efforts on health care, and despite their differences, a love fest ensued.

“Now, I want to compliment Chris, because when Sen. (Ted) Kennedy has suffered from his illness, they asked Chris to chair this. And to come right in without staff and to be able do the job that he’s done, I’m really impressed,” Hatch said. “Of course, I always have been; Chris is one of the better Senators here. And I know that Ted felt that this would be in good hands with him.”

RINOS like Hatch, as well as corrupt Republicans and “lovesick” ones such as Sanford need to be cleaned out of the party already. Its one thing to want to vote out all the corrupt liberals, but when Republicans go on and on with their “principles” claim, how is anyone supposed to take the party seriously with the likes of Sanford, Ensign, etc?

Senator Dodd, has been at the forefront of the AIG bonus controversy. While the media and democrats in congress show faux rage over those who received the bonuses (thanks to Geithner and Dodd where made possible in the first place), something else is developing. Chris Dodd was the #1 receipiant of AIG campaign donations last year (followed by Hussein Obama in a close second). Now RedState has learned that Dodd’s wife served on the board of – and was compensated by – an AIG subsidiary?

From 2001-2004, Jackie Clegg Dodd served as an “outside” director of IPC Holdings, Ltd., a Bermuda-based company controlled by AIG. IPC, which provides property casualty catastrophe insurance coverage, was formed in 1993 and currently has a market cap of $1.4 billion and trades on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol IPCR. In 2001, in addition to a public offering of 15 million shares of stock that raised $380 million, IPC raised more than $109 million through a simultaneous private placement sale of 5.6 million shares of stock to AIG – giving AIG a 20% stake in IPC. (AIG sold its 13.397 million shares in IPC in August, 2006.)

Clegg was compensated for her duties to the company, which was managed by a subsidiary of AIG. In 2003, according to a proxy statement, Clegg received $12,000 per year and an additional $1,000 for each Directors’ and committee meeting she attended. Clegg served on the Audit and Investment committees during her final year on the board.

IPC paid millions each year to other AIG-related companies for administrative and other services. Clegg was a diligent director. In 2003, the proxy statement report, she attended more than 75% of board and committee meetings. This while she served as the managing partner of Clegg International Consultants, LLC, which she created in 2001, the year she joined the board of IPC. Chris Fraud, err Dodd admits to AIG bonus protection loophole he put into the original porkulus!

The truth comes out, slowly but surely. Senator Chris Dodd finally admitted to CNN that he was infact the one responsible for adding the bonus loophole into the stimulus package that permitted AIG and other companies that received bailout funds to pay bonuses. This is a complete 360 (to use a CNN term) from Tuesday, when Dodd flat out denied to CNN that he had anything to do with the loophole. But its not Dodd’s fault (according to Dodd). He now says The Treasury Department was responsible for inserting exemptions into the stimulus bill that allowed bailout recipients to receive bonuses.

More irony from the crooked democrats. Chris Dodd was the largest recipient of campaign donations during the 08 election. Can you guess who was #2? None other than Barack HUSSEIN Obama! John McCain who is more of a democrat than anything came in #3, and Billiary is #4 on the list.

Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) on Monday night floated the idea of taxing American International Group (AIG: 0.9199, 0.1398, 17.92%) bonus recipients so the government could recoup some or all of the $450 million the company is paying to employees in its financial products unit. Within hours, the idea spread to both houses of Congress, with lawmakers proposing an AIG bonus tax.

The move represents somewhat of an about-face for the Senator.

While the Senate was constructing the $787 billion stimulus last month, Dodd added an executive-compensation restriction to the bill. That amendment provides an “exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009” — which exempts the very AIG bonuses Dodd and others are now seeking to tax.

The amendment made it into the final version of the bill, and is law.

Separately, Sen. Dodd was AIG’s largest single recipient of campaign donations during the 2008 election cycle with $103,100, according to opensecrets.org.

Dodd’s office did not immediately return a request for comment.

One of AIG Financial Products’ largest offices is based in Connecticut.

Dodd Amendment Rules

* Crack down on bonuses, retention awards and incentive compensation: Bonuses can only be paid in the form of long-term restricted stock, equal to no greater than 1/3 of total annual compensation, and will vest only when taxpayer funds are repaid. There is an exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009.
* For institutions that received assistance totaling less than $25 million, the bonus restriction applies to the highest compensated employee; $25 million to $250 million, applies to the top five employees; $250 million to $500 million, applies to the senior executive officers and the next top 10 employees; and more than $500 million applies to the senior executive officers and the next top 20 employees (or such higher number as the Secretary determines is in the public interest).
