Charlie Rangel takes temporary “leave of absence” from Chairman’s seat of the House Ways & Means committee

charlie-rangelCowardly Charles Rangel wouldn’t even take any questions about why he is taking his “temporary” leave of absence, or about anything else. Rangel also said:

“I also would like to say that, from the very, very beginning, I had offered this to Speaker Pelosi.”

Hmm.

80 to 90 Democratic House Seats in Play?

100 Days DemocratsAccording to National Review Online, 126 House Republican challengers — that’s those running in open seats or against Democratic incumbents — reported having at least $100,000 in their campaign accounts. Forty-two of those have at least $200,000, and 10 have at least $500,000.

There’s some overlap in competitive primaries. But the numbers generally support the view voiced by Republicans that they expect to put between 80 and 90 Democratic-held seats in play. They need to pick up 40 seats this year to take back control of the House.

And even candidates generally considered safe — such as Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I., and Rep. David Wu, D-Ore. — are likely to face well-funded challengers this year.

Democrat Rep James Clyburn: ‘We’ve got to spend our way out of this recession’

democrat-logoBriliant! Of course, If i said Clyburn’s idea of “spending our way out of a recession” was totally moronic, would I be labeled as a racist by left wing nut jobs? According to The Hill, South Carolina Democrat Rep. James Clyburn the House majority whip, said that trying to find greater savings in the budget, which was released by Obama this morning, wouldn’t help alleviate the recession. Instead, Clyburn says:

“We’re not going to save our way out of this recession, we’ve got to spend our way out of this recession”

Another drunk Democrat on the Senate floor – Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont

vote democrat its easier than workingFollowing in the footsteps of drunk Max Baucus last month on the Senate floor, old washed up drunk Patrick Leahy sounded a bit tipsy himself. Maybe he just drank whatever it was in the water in the state of Vermont. Radio Equalizer posted the audio clip of Leahy’s rather bizarre denunciation of the US Supreme Court’s decision to ease government control of campaign contributions. This left Mark Levin wondering: is he slurring his speech? You be the judge.

Ben Nelson’s Cornhusker Kickback will cost the rest of us $1.2 BILLION over 10 years according to the CBO

ben-nelsonAs you have read here (and elsewhere), and undoutably heard on TV, Ben Nelson’s Cornhusker Kickback for Nebraska will get the state $100 million in assistance for its Medicaid program under provisions in the Senate’s healthcare bill. Thats what a Democrat whore of a Senator can get for his midwestern state, after the other, Mary Landrieu got herself $300 million for her state. According to the The Hill, The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) informed lawmakers on Sunday night that the section of the manager’s amendment to the Senate’s health bill would cost $1.2 billion over 10 years. Meaning, unless you are from Nebraska, you are paying for this.

Max Baucus’s girlfriend Melodee Hanes got a $14,000 pay raise and was taken on trips with PUBLIC MONEY

max-baucusThis isn’t quite on the level of Mark Sanford who’s wife has filed for divorce today, but its not far off. While Max Baucus didn’t pop off unannounced to South America to visit his mistress, instead he used our tax payer money to give a raise to his girlfriend Melodee Hanes and pop off to Asia with her on our dime. While Baucus isn’t a sitting Governor of a state like Sanford is, Baucus is chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee and the author of the current Senate ObamaCARE bill. According to Politico, he gave a nearly $14,000 pay raise to a female staffer Melodee Hanes in 2008. At the time he was becoming romantically involved with her, and later that year took her on a taxpayer-funded trip to Southeast Asia and the Middle East, though foreign policy was not her specialty.

But thats not all. According to Fox News, Melodee Hanes, Baucus’ former state director and now his live-in girlfriend, reportedly met at least twice with the Montana Democrat’s divorce attorney to talk about the Baucuses’ divorce eight months before the senator and his wife separated!

Another House Democrat to Retire – Brian Baird of Washington

vote-democrat-its-easier-than-working.jpgThe rats are really jumping ship! Brian Baird is now the third Democrat to officially retire after Reps. John Tanner (D-Tenn.) and Dennis Moore (D-Kan.) announced their retirements. Also, according to The Hill, six Democrats are leaving their seats to run for another office.

“The time has now come to pursue other options, other ways of serving. Hence, I am announcing today that I do not intend to seek reelection to Congress in 2010,” the six-term congressman said in a statement. “This is not an easy decision to be sure, but I believe it is the right decision at the right time.”

A little history lesson for Harry Reid

reid-grimHistorians are begining to fault dingy Harry Reid’s curious reference to the Senate civil rights debates of the 1960s. Liberals almost must have forgotten how it was a Democrat who assassinated Harvey Milk. Also according to the Wall Street Journal, Liberals and Democrats tend to forget that it was Southern Democrats who mounted an 83-day filibuster of the 1964 Civil Rights Bill. The final vote to cut off debate saw 29 Senators in opposition, 80% of them Democrats. Among those voting to block the civil rights bill was West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd, who personally filibustered the bill for 14 hours. The next year he also opposed the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Mr. Byrd still sits in the Senate, and indeed preceded Mr. Reid as his party’s majority leader until he stepped down from that role in 1989. You know, the same Robert Byrd who was a proud member of the KKK? The same Robert Byrd wrote a letter in 1946 to the group’s Imperial Wizard stating “The Klan is needed today as never before, and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia.” Byrd defended the Klan in his 1958 U.S. Senate campaign when he was 41 years old.

Congress”woman” Rosa DeLauro on anti-abortion Stupak Amendment: Those Members who are pro-choice and who voted for Stupak should feel your wrath

rosa-delauroBefore we get to Rosa Delauro, CNS News reports that Rev. Carlton Veazey, president and CEO of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, told a small crowd of pro-abortion protesters that women have a “God-given right” to abortion and that opposition from pro-life congressmen and religious leaders would never take it away.

“Don’t let anybody tell you that religious people don’t support choice,” Veazey said at the gathering in the Dirksen Senate Office Building. “You not only have a constitutional right for abortion, but you have a God-given right.”

Where exactly in the constitution again does it mention anything about abortion? I must have missed that part.

Anyway on to the Congresswoman. Rosa Delauro represents the 3rd district of Connecticut. She was also at this small gathering of liberal nut jobs and called the Stupak amendment “a stain.” Delauro also wants those members of Congress who dare support the Stupak amendment to feel “your wrath”.

Nebraska Democrat Senator Ben Nelson will NOT support health care bill without stronger anti-abortion language

obamacare-its-to-die-forOf course, actually beleving any Democrat senator, especially after they voted for cloture on the health care bill in the first place is a stretch. But for those who do, Nebraska’s “moderate” Democrat Senator Ben Nelson said Thursday that the need for stronger anti-abortion language in the Senate health care bill is “non-negotiable,” and he would filibuster the legislation without it. Politico reports:

Your tax money at work – Pelosi spends nearly $3,000 on “flowers” between June and October

nancy-pelosi-thumbnailBut thats not the end of it. Pelosi also spent $30,610 in food and beverage and about $2,740 on bottled water. No word though how much was spent on Botox treatments. These totals, along with others listed below contributed to the nearly $120,531 total from all congressional leadership accounts. Pelosi’s offices defended the charges, saying the Speaker’s office holds more ceremonial events with visiting dignitaries than other congressional offices. They also use a local florist, and about a third of her flower expenses this quarter were for Jack Kemp’s funeral. According to Politico, House Majority Whip James Clyburn has a thing for Chantilly Donuts, spending about $265 at the Virginia shop in the past quarter. And Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.), a “fiscal conservative”, decided to give about $2,000 in unused office funds back to the government to help reduce the deficit.

Generic Congressional Ballot – Republicans lead Democrats by 24% points with independents!

Democrat PorkulusAccording to the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey, 44% would vote for their district’s Republican congressional candidate while 37% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent overall. This gives Republicans a 7% point lead over Democrats which is their largest margin since the September poll. But what is of most significance is the fact that voters not affiliated with either party aka independents heavily favor Republicans, 44% to 20%, a whopping 24% spread. Of course Democrats can argue how Rasmussen is such a right-wing biased poll, but this fits the same trend of the New Jersey and Virigina Governorship races in which independents went 20% more from the Republican candidate then the Democrat.

Blue Dog Democrat Congressman Dan Lipinski has no problem with jail time for no health insurance

pelosijailHere’s another so called “blue dog” Democrat to target in 2010. “Steve in Chicago” or @landofdafree as he is known on twitter attended a town hall meeting held by Illinois Democrat Congressman Dan Lipinski who represents Illinois 3rd district was asked a question by Steve what he thought about Pelosi’s plan to fine those who don’t either purchase health insurance, or worse go to jail? Apparently Dan Lipinski has no problem with either idea, the fine or jail. Steve summaries his exchange with Lipinski as follows:

Kansas “blue dog” Democrat Dennis Moore retiring from Congress

vote-democrat-its-easier-than-working.jpgThis is both good news and bad. While its good news in the fact that a Republican will likely take retiring Dennis Moore’s seat in the 2010 election, the bad news could translate into the fact Moore will be a lame duck, 100% liberal vote for the rest of his time until he leaves in 2011.  Dennis Moore represents Kansas’s 3rd district which encompasses Wyandotte and Johnson counties. The 3rd district of Kansas also which include the Kansas City metropolitan area, and portions of Douglas County, which include Lawrence.

Congressman Dennis Moore who has represented the 3rd district since 1999 has  released the following statement today:

“Cold Cash” Louisiana Democrat William Jefferson sentenced to 13 years in prison

The man who lost to Ahn “Joseph” Cao last fall in the congress elections, William Jefferson who is famous for being found with $90,000+ in his freezer is going to the slammer for 13 years. Prosecutor described this as “the most extensive and pervasive pattern of corruption in the history of Congress.” They obviously haven’t looked much into the rest of Congress then. Judge T.S. Ellis III went soft on Cold Cash Jefferson though, the amount of time behind bars was recommeneded by the government to be between 27 and 33 years, still it is by the far the stiffest jail term ever imposed on a member or former member of Congress for crimes committed while in office. I’m hoping more of the current corrupt members get sent to trial and well surpass cold cash Jefferson’s total years. NOLA has more:
