“Cold Cash” Louisiana Democrat William Jefferson sentenced to 13 years in prison

The man who lost to Ahn “Joseph” Cao last fall in the congress elections, William Jefferson who is famous for being found with $90,000+ in his freezer is going to the slammer for 13 years. Prosecutor described this as “the most extensive and pervasive pattern of corruption in the history of Congress.” They obviously haven’t looked much into the rest of Congress then. Judge T.S. Ellis III went soft on Cold Cash Jefferson though, the amount of time behind bars was recommeneded by the government to be between 27 and 33 years, still it is by the far the stiffest jail term ever imposed on a member or former member of Congress for crimes committed while in office. I’m hoping more of the current corrupt members get sent to trial and well surpass cold cash Jefferson’s total years. NOLA has more:

Jefferson, 62, was found guilty Aug. 6 on 11 charges, including soliciting bribes, depriving citizens of honest service, money laundering and using his office as a racketeering enterprise.

He was acquitted of five other charges in a case that famously featured the revelation that he had hidden $90,000 in the freezer of his home, marked bills from the FBI that prosecutors said was going to be used as a bribe.

The judge also ordered Jefferson to forfeit the $470,653.47 the jury had determined was funneled to shell companies under his family’s control through his bribe schemes.

Jefferson was not immediately taken into custody, as prosecutors had requested. Instead the nine-term Democratic member of Congress was released pending a hearing Wednesday at which Ellis will hear arguments on whether Jefferson is a flight risk and should be sent directly to prison. His attorneys have asked that he be allowed to remain free on bond while he appeals his conviction, which is unlikely.

Barring that, lead attorney Robert Trout is asking that Jefferson be allowed to turn himself to authorities Jan. 4, which would be routine in a case of this sort, and would allow him to spend Christmas with his family.

Jefferson does not have to appear at Wednesday’s hearing, but if the judge approves the prosecution’s request, the former congressman would have to report immediately. Ellis agreed to recommend Jefferson be assigned to a low-security prison “camp.” Trout specifically recommended the federal prison in Pensacola, Fla., but Ellis said only that he would recommend a facility close to New Orleans.

Jefferson has 10 business days to file an appeal, which Trout said they would do.

Gerald Walpin vindicated! IG who exposed Obama/Kevin Johnson corruption cleared!

Obama exposed yet again! Remember back in June, the White House fired Gerald Walpin as Inspector-General of the Corporation for National and Community Service? This happened after he objected to an unusually-favorable settlement of fraud charges against Obama’s pal and mayor of Sacramento named Kevin Johnson. Shortly thereafter, Obama claimed that Gerald Walpin got fired for instability and strongly hinted that Walpin was senile. Yesterday, according to Hotair, the IGs struck back and cleared Walpin of the White House’s allegations through their professional board! Walpin also now wants his job back! The FBI probe into whether e-mails were deleted during a separate federal investigation of Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson’s St. HOPE Academy has been closed without charges being filed.

Federal officials said Tuesday there was not enough evidence to support allegations that the e-mails were intentionally deleted while Johnson’s nonprofit organization was being probed by federal Inspector General Gerald Walpin.

The decision appears to put to rest a controversy that has dogged Johnson since Walpin’s investigation into St. HOPE’s use of federal grant money first became public in April 2008.

“We’re pleased that the FBI has determined what we knew all along – that there was no intentional wrongdoing by the mayor or anyone at St. HOPE,” said mayoral spokesman Steve Maviglio. “It’s time for this book to be closed and for everyone to move on.”

Walpin, who was fired by President Barack Obama last summer amid controversy over his probe of Johnson, revealed Tuesday that he also had been cleared of overstepping his authority in the matter.

Now, he said, he wants his job back.

“It certainly is a vindication that I and my office – and it was mainly my office, the career staff – acted properly in connection with the investigation into St. HOPE,” Walpin said.

The House ethics committee announced Thursday it is investigating two California Democratic lawmakers, Maxine Waters and Laura Richardson. According to Breitbart, the committee said it is investigating whether Rep. Maxine Waters used her influence to help a bank in which her husband owned stock, and whether the couple benefited as a result. Separately, the panel is investigating whether Rep. Laura Richardson failed to disclose required information on her financial disclosure forms and received special treatment from a lender.

As the House was conducting scheduled votes Thursday, ethics chairwoman Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., went to the microphone to announce that a confidential weekly report of the committee from July had leaked out in a case of “cyber-hacking.”

A committee statement said its security was breached through “peer to peer file sharing software” by a junior employee who was working from home. The staff member was fired.

The July report contains a summary of the committee’s work at the time, but Lofgren said no inferences should be made about anyone whose name is mentioned.

The committee makes a public announcement when it begins an investigation of potential rule-breaking, which is conducted by an investigative subcommittee whose members also are made public.

However, the weekly reports include a summary of the committee’s work at an earlier stage, when its members and staff scrutinize lawmakers to see whether an investigation is warranted.

The Washington Post reported in its online edition Thursday that the document was disclosed on a publicly accessible computer network and made available to the newspaper by a source familiar with such networks.

The Post reported that nearly half the members of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee were under scrutiny.

The previously disclosed inquiry involves lawmakers who steered appropriations to clients of a now-defunct lobbying firm and received campaign contributions from the firm and its clients.

The names included three lawmakers previously identified in the inquiry: the chairman of the defense subcommittee, Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa.; and Reps. Peter Visclosky, D-Ind., and James Moran, D-Va.

The Post said others whose names were in the report included Reps. Norm Dicks, D-Wash., Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio, C.W. Bill Young, R-Fla., and Todd Tiahrt, R-Kan.

The committee, however, has not announced an investigation of any of these lawmakers.

Waters is the No. 3 Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee and chairwoman of its subcommittee on housing. She has been an influential voice in the committee’s work to overhaul financial regulations.

Waters came under scrutiny after former Treasury Department officials said she helped arrange a meeting between regulators and executives at OneUnited Bank last year without mentioning her husband’s financial ties to the institution.

Her husband, Sidney Williams, holds at least $250,000 in the bank’s stock and previously had served on its board. Waters’ spokesman, Michael Levin, said Williams was no longer on the board when the meeting was arranged.

Shepard Fairey admits lying to defend himself from Associated Press lawsuit

Yes, the same Shepard Fairey that brought us those ugly, pukeful “Hope” and “Change” posters with Obama’s mugshot admits lying to defend himself from Associated Press lawsuit. Fairey said in a statement issued late Friday that he knowingly submitted false images and deleted others in the legal proceedings, in an attempt to conceal the fact that the AP had correctly identified the photo that Fairey had used as a reference for his “Hope” poster of then-Sen. Barack Obama. More from the L.A. Times:

“Throughout the case, there has been a question as to which Mannie Garcia photo I used as a reference to design the HOPE image,” Fairey said. “The AP claimed it was one photo, and I claimed it was another.”

New filings to the court, he said, “state for the record that the AP is correct about which photo I used…and that I was mistaken. While I initially believed that the photo I referenced was a different one, I discovered early on in the case that I was wrong. In an attempt to conceal my mistake I submitted false images and deleted other images.”

In February, the AP claimed that Fairey violated copyright laws when he used one of their images as the basis for the poster. In response, the artist filed a lawsuit against the AP, claiming that he was protected under fair use. Fairey also claimed that he used a different photo as the inspiration for his poster.

After Fairey’s admission, a spokesman for the Associated Press issued a statement saying that Fairey “sued the AP under false pretenses by lying about which AP photograph he used.”

Fairey said that his lawyers have taken the steps to amend his court pleadings to reflect the fact that “the AP is correct about which photo I used as a reference and that I was mistaken.”

The artist expressed his remorse in his statement, saying that he is taking “full responsibility for my actions which were mine alone. I am taking every step to correct the information and I regret I did not come forward sooner. “

Embattled Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) will face a 2010 primary challenge from one of his own former campaign directors.

Vince Morgan, a New York community banker who at one time worked for crook Charlie Rangel as a special assistant and campaign director, announced Monday that he would challenge Rangel for reelection. According to The Hill, Morgan’s announcement follows months of ethical scrutiny surrounding Rangel’s alleged failure to pay taxes on income from a villa he rents, in addition to several other accusations of financial impropriety against the congressman.

“It’s time for change,” Morgan said Monday in a press release. “Our district needs new leadership that is in touch with the community and the issues that confront us today.”

While Morgan’s barebones website makes no mention of the cloud that has hung over Rangel, the challenge comes on the heels of a tough week for the longtime incumbent. Rangel survived an effort last Wednesday by Republicans to strip him of his position as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, but now faces an even more expansive inquiry from the House ethics committee.

House Committee To Expand Rangel Investigation

WCBS in New York has posted that a House committee voted unanimously today to expand its investigation into New York’s slimy, corrupt Democratic Rep. You may remember during the summer Rangel’s sudden recollection of at least $500,000 in cash assets and tens of thousands of dollars of investment income that were never decleared. The House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct issued a statement on Thursday that is now going to investigate his apparent lapses in memory as part of a probe that has already lasted 16 months. In its statement, the committee wrote:

“The Committee on Standards of Official Conduct voted unanimously on October 8, 2009 to expand the jurisdiction of the investigative subcommittee’s inquiry regarding the Matter of Representative Charles B. Rangel to determine if Rep. Rangel violated the Coe of Official Conduct or any law, rule, regulation, or other standard of conduct applicable to his conduct in the performance of his duties or the discharge of his responsibilities with respect to all Financial Disclosure Statements and all amendments filed in calendar year 2009 by or on behalf of Representative Charles B. Rangel pursuant to Title I of the Ethics in Government Act.

“The investigative subcommittee has collaborated in a bipartisan manner in the performance of its duties and obligations. To that end, the investigative subcommittee to date has: authorized the issuance of close to 150 subpoenas; interviewed approximately 34 witnesses resulting in over 2,100 pages of transcripts; reviewed and analyzed over 12,000 pages of documents; and held over 30 investigative subcommittee meetings.”

Maxine Waters Under Investigation!

Let the cries of racism begin! This almost sounds too good to be true! Maxine Waters is now under investigation for steering federal bailout funds to a questionable bank because she and her board member husband had deep financial ties to it. Months after Waters was exposed for her shady deal, the House Ethics Committee is finally investigating Water’s controversial intervention on behalf of her husband’s failing Massachusetts bank. As a result, the financial institution (OneUnited) received $12 million in federal bailout funds. More from Judicial Watch:

Waters pressured Treasury officials to bail out the minority-owned bank whose executives have donated heavily to her political campaigns. At the time she and her husband, Sidney Williams, held big financial stakes worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in OneUnited and her husband had just been the bank’s director and still served on its board.

The conflict was so blatant that even the scandal-plagued chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, her good buddy Barney Frank, urged Waters to “stay out of it,” assuring her that he would see to it that her precious bank got bailout money. Earlier this year Judicial Watch uncovered documents that Congress, especially Frank, for years ignored corruption at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac so it’s not surprising that he took no action when Waters ignored his suggestion.

The OneUnited case was hardly the first time that Waters, California’s most influential black lawmaker, used her political clout to benefit her family financially. In 2004 Waters’ hometown newspaper reported that her relatives made more than $1 million by doing business with companies, candidates and causes that the well-connected and powerful congresswoman had helped.

Waters has also made international headlines for her frequent trips to communist Cuba to visit her convicted cop-assassin friend, Joanne Chesimard, who is also known by her Black Panther name of Assata Shakur. Chesimard was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted by a jury of the 1979 murder of a New Jersey State Trooper. With the help of fellow cult members, she escaped from jail and fled to Cuba.

Outraged U.S. lawmakers insisted she be extradited but Waters always stood by her side, likening the cop-assassin to civil rights leader Martin Luther King. In fact, she wrote Cuban Dictator Fidel Castro a letter to ensure that she was not part of the group of U.S. legislators who voted for a resolution to extradite the cop murderer. Waters told Castro that she opposed extradition because Chesimard was “politically persecuted” in the U.S. and simply seeking political asylum in Havana, where she still lives.

As far the roll call vote, the only known 1 of the 6 to vote against it was Dick Durbin, from the corruption capitol of Illinois. Townhall.com has some interesting new information regarding the Axelrod/Obama/Govdelivery spamgate story that still has been absent from the state run medi.a What they all had in common, though, was that they had each emailed their Democrat representatives…within a week of getting the Axelrod email. Heres more from Townhall:

Could there have been an unspoken/unofficial effort by the Democrat party asking its elected members to forward all constituent correspondence on health care to a centralized DC location….like, say, the “flag” snitch address? Perhaps that’s how these email lists were compiled.

Two callers in particular supported this theory. One gentleman told me he’d emailed Rep. Melissa Bean (D-Ill.) to register opposition to the House health care bill. He received an email response from Bean’s office the next day (entirely appropriate), followed by the Axelrod email a few days later. Another caller said she’d contacted Sen. Debbie Stabenow’s (D-Mich.) office for a similar reason. She, too, heard first from Stabenow’s staff, then from Axelrod. Again, neither caller had ever been in touch with the White House.

The suggestion I raised above merits further scrutiny. Could the aforementioned “outside groups” include the political offices of elected Democrats? It stands to reason: If the White House set up a (now defunct) email account asking average Americans to inform on one another regarding health care “misinformation,” wouldn’t constituent correspondence sent directly to elected representatives serve as a natural gold mine for culling opponents’ arguments against the president’s plan? One wonders if certain Democratic members chose to pass along this information on their own initiative, or if they were responding to encouragement (read: following orders) from the White House to do so.

Move over Norman Hsu, you have company! Hassan Nemazee, chairman of Nemazee Capital Corp. and a fundraiser for President Obama and Hillary Clinton, was arrested on charges that he tricked Citigroup Inc. into lending him as much as $74 million using phony documents, according to Bloomberg

Nemazee got the loan by telling Citibank that he held accounts with hundreds of millions of dollars that could serve as collateral, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said today in a statement. He used fake addresses and phone numbers controlled by him to mislead the bank, prosecutors said.

The accounts “either never existed or had been closed years before Nemazee submitted the documents referencing those accounts,” Bharara said in the statement.

Nemazee, 59, repaid the loan to Citibank yesterday, a day after he was interviewed by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, prosecutors said. The interview took place at Newark Liberty International Airport as Nemazee was checking in for a flight to Rome.

The financier, who lives in Manhattan and Katonah, New York, is charged with one count of bank fraud and will appear today in Manhattan federal court. He is represented by attorney Marc Mukasey, of Bracewell & Giuliani, who didn’t have an immediate comment.

Nemazee is one of the leading fundraisers for the Democratic Party. He served as national finance chairman for the Senate committee that works to elect Democrats when it was run by New York Senator Charles Schumer.

Obama, Clinton, Kerry

In the 2008 presidential campaign, Nemazee raised at least $100,000 for Hillary Clinton, and then went on to bring in at least $500,000 for Barack Obama after he defeated her in the primary campaign, according to the Washington watchdog group Public Citizen. Clinton is now secretary of state.

Nemazee also served as New York finance chairman for Massachusetts Senator John Kerry during his 2004 run for the presidency.

Nemazee Capital’s Web site carries excerpts of stories that highlight his powerful connections. The first, a Washington Times piece about former President Bill Clinton’s recent mission to North Korea, describes Nemazee as a “friend and longtime Clinton supporter.”

Nemazee Capital was established in 1987 and invests in health care, media, oil and natural gas, and other industries, according to the firm’s Web site. The firm has more than $3 billion under management, according to a July press release.

Another prominent fundraiser for Democrats, Norman Hsu, was convicted by a federal jury in May of campaign finance fraud for making tens of thousands of dollars in illegal donations. He also pleaded guilty to cheating investors out of more than $20 million in a Ponzi scheme. He has yet to be sentenced.

The White House hired a private communications company based in Minnesota to distribute mass e-mails, helping to shed light on how some recipients received e-mails from David Axelrod in support of President Obama’s health care plan without signing up for them, FOX News has learned:

The company, Govdelivery, describes itself as the world’s leading provider of government-to-citizen communication solutions and says its e-mail service provides a fully-automated on-demand public communication system.

It is still unknown how much taxpayer money the White House provides to Govdelivery for its services.

The revelation comes after the White House acknowledged this week that people were receiving unsolicited e-mails from the administration about health care reform and suggested the problem was with third-party groups that placed the recipients’ names on the distribution list.

Republicans quickly pounced on the news.

“This is yet another ominous chapter in the administration’s rabid campaign to jam its radical health care scheme onto an unwilling public by any means necessary,” Rep. Thaddeus McCotter of Michigan said in a statement.

Govdelivery sent hundreds of e-mails from senior adviser David Axelrod asking supporters to help rebut criticism of Obama’s health care plan circulating on the Internet. It also sent e-mails highlighting Obama’s speech to the Muslim world in Cairo and the announcement of Sonia Sotomayor as a Supreme Court nominee.

Several FOX News viewers complained they received these e-mails even though they had never requested any communication from the White House.

Exposed! Two firms that received $343.3 million to handle advertising for Barack Obama’s White House run last year have profited from his top priority as president by taking on his push for health-care overhaul, according to Bloomberg. More from Bloomberg:

One is AKPD Message and Media, the Chicago-based firm headed by David Axelrod until he left last Dec. 31 to serve as a senior adviser to the president. Axelrod was Obama’s top campaign strategist and is now helping sell the health-care plan. The other firm is Washington-based GMMB Campaign Group, where partner Jim Margolis was also an Obama strategist.

This year, AKPD and GMMB received $12 million in advertising business from Healthy Economy Now, a coalition that includes the Washington-based Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America, known as PhRMA, that is seeking to build support for a health-care overhaul, said the coalition’s spokesman, Jeremy Van Ess.

Hiring Obama’s campaign advisers makes sense, said Julius Hobson, a senior policy adviser in the Washington office of the St. Louis-based law firm, Bryan Cave LLP.

“If you’re in support of the president, then you use the people he used,” said Hobson, 61, who teaches a graduate course in lobbying at George Washington University in Washington.

SpamGate – White House hopes those who received the e-mails without signing up for them were not “inconvenienced”

Still no explanation from the White House on how random people got spammed by David Axelrod and the White House last week on ObamaCARE, though the White House hopes “no one was inconvenienced”. Isn’t that sweet? While there is STILL no explanation on how these SPAM emails from Axelrod managed to get out, the White House is now trying to pass blame on to third-party groups. Here’s the written statement released exclusively to FOX News, by White House spokesman Nick Shapiro:

“The White House e-mail list is made up of e-mail addresses obtained solely through the White House Web site. The White House doesn’t purchase, upload or merge from any other list, again, all e-mails come from the White House Web site as we have no interest in e-mailing anyone who does not want to receive an e-mail,” the statement said. “If an individual received the e-mail because someone else or a group signed them up or forwarded the e-mail, we hope they were not too inconvenienced.”

Sorry Shapiro/Hussein/Gibbs. This doesn’t cut it. You still got some spalin’ to do.

As you undoubtedly heard on Tuesday, the White House on dismissed protests against Obama’s health care reforms in multiple states over the past weekend as “manufactured anger“ orchestrated by right wing groups and the Republican party and insurance companies. Heres what the moron Robert Gibbs said (from the Washington Times):

“I hope people will take a jaundiced eye to what is clearly the Astroturf nature of grass-roots lobbying,” said White House press secretary Robert Gibbs during a morning off-camera session in his office with reporters.

“This is manufactured anger,” he said.

As the worst press secretary in the history of the White House, Gibbs implied that the Republican Party is using operatives to make it appear as if members of the administration and of Congress are encountering genuine outrage and anger over the president’s proposed health care reforms.

Today the excuses are flooding in about how the protesters are “too well dressed” from racist liberal hag Barbara Boxer:

To combat this today, Hussein Obama’s latest mass e-mailing to his cult members calling on them to “seize this moment and win this historic victory for our economy, our health and our families”.

Yesterday it was reported that the White House was asking for those who saw something “fishy” to report it to flag@whitehouse.gov and also report on “evil blog posts”. I’ll be sure to send this latest post to the appropriate e-mail as I did yesterday all my previous blog posts. Feel free to send it yourself too.

Countrywide official confirms Democrats Dodd and Conrad told they were getting sweet mortgage deals

Despite their denials, influential Democratic Sens. Kent Conrad and Chris Dodd were told from the start they were getting VIP mortgage discounts from one of the nation’s largest lenders, the official who handled their loans has told Congress in secret testimony. More from Breitbart:

Both senators have said that at the time the mortgages were being written they didn’t know they were getting unique deals from Countrywide Financial Corp., the company that went on to lose billions of dollars on home loans to credit-strapped borrowers. Dodd still maintains he got no preferential treatment.

Dodd got two Countrywide mortgages in 2003, refinancing his home in Connecticut and another residence in Washington. Conrad’s two Countrywide mortgages in 2004 were for a beach house in Delaware and an eight-unit apartment building in Bismarck in his home state of North Dakota.

Robert Feinberg, who worked in the Countrywide’s VIP section, told congressional investigators last month that the two senators were made aware that “who you know is basically how you’re coming in here.”
