“Cold Cash” Louisiana Democrat William Jefferson sentenced to 13 years in prison

The man who lost to Ahn “Joseph” Cao last fall in the congress elections, William Jefferson who is famous for being found with $90,000+ in his freezer is going to the slammer for 13 years. Prosecutor described this as “the most extensive and pervasive pattern of corruption in the history of Congress.” They obviously haven’t looked much into the rest of Congress then. Judge T.S. Ellis III went soft on Cold Cash Jefferson though, the amount of time behind bars was recommeneded by the government to be between 27 and 33 years, still it is by the far the stiffest jail term ever imposed on a member or former member of Congress for crimes committed while in office. I’m hoping more of the current corrupt members get sent to trial and well surpass cold cash Jefferson’s total years. NOLA has more:

Jefferson, 62, was found guilty Aug. 6 on 11 charges, including soliciting bribes, depriving citizens of honest service, money laundering and using his office as a racketeering enterprise.

He was acquitted of five other charges in a case that famously featured the revelation that he had hidden $90,000 in the freezer of his home, marked bills from the FBI that prosecutors said was going to be used as a bribe.

The judge also ordered Jefferson to forfeit the $470,653.47 the jury had determined was funneled to shell companies under his family’s control through his bribe schemes.

Jefferson was not immediately taken into custody, as prosecutors had requested. Instead the nine-term Democratic member of Congress was released pending a hearing Wednesday at which Ellis will hear arguments on whether Jefferson is a flight risk and should be sent directly to prison. His attorneys have asked that he be allowed to remain free on bond while he appeals his conviction, which is unlikely.

Barring that, lead attorney Robert Trout is asking that Jefferson be allowed to turn himself to authorities Jan. 4, which would be routine in a case of this sort, and would allow him to spend Christmas with his family.

Jefferson does not have to appear at Wednesday’s hearing, but if the judge approves the prosecution’s request, the former congressman would have to report immediately. Ellis agreed to recommend Jefferson be assigned to a low-security prison “camp.” Trout specifically recommended the federal prison in Pensacola, Fla., but Ellis said only that he would recommend a facility close to New Orleans.

Jefferson has 10 business days to file an appeal, which Trout said they would do.

White House gives “blunt warnings” to democrats to not appear on Fox News

Chicago style politics has never been as blatant as it is now. With all the talk about some BS truce between Obama/Fox News, at least one Democratic political strategist has gotten a blunt warning from the White House to never appear on Fox News Channel, according to The Swamp. One Democratic strategist said that shortly after an appearance on Fox he got a phone call from a White House official telling him not to be a guest on the show again. The call had an intimidating tone, he said.

The message was, “We better not see you on again,” said the strategist, who spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to run afoul of the White House. An implicit suggestion, he said, was that “clients might stop using you if you continue.”

Patrick Caddell, a Fox News contributor and a former pollster for Democratic President Jimmy Carter, said he has spoken to Democratic consultants who have been told by the White House to avoid appearances on Fox. He declined to give their names.

Caddell said he had not gotten that message himself from the White House. “They know better than to tell me anything like that,” he said.

Caddell added: “I have heard that they’ve done that to others in not too subtle ways. I find it appalling. When the White House gets in the business of suppressing dissent and comment, particularly from its own party, it hurts itself.”

The White House has taken an aggressive stance toward Fox. When President Obama appeared on five separate talk shows one Sunday in September, he avoided Fox.

“It would be foolish for us to just treat it like it’s CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS,” said a White House aide. “That doesn’t make any sense. That would be like saying we’re going to do [interviews] with the news magazines and we’re going to do Time, Newsweek and the [conservative] National Review.”

The House ethics committee announced Thursday it is investigating two California Democratic lawmakers, Maxine Waters and Laura Richardson. According to Breitbart, the committee said it is investigating whether Rep. Maxine Waters used her influence to help a bank in which her husband owned stock, and whether the couple benefited as a result. Separately, the panel is investigating whether Rep. Laura Richardson failed to disclose required information on her financial disclosure forms and received special treatment from a lender.

As the House was conducting scheduled votes Thursday, ethics chairwoman Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., went to the microphone to announce that a confidential weekly report of the committee from July had leaked out in a case of “cyber-hacking.”

A committee statement said its security was breached through “peer to peer file sharing software” by a junior employee who was working from home. The staff member was fired.

The July report contains a summary of the committee’s work at the time, but Lofgren said no inferences should be made about anyone whose name is mentioned.

The committee makes a public announcement when it begins an investigation of potential rule-breaking, which is conducted by an investigative subcommittee whose members also are made public.

However, the weekly reports include a summary of the committee’s work at an earlier stage, when its members and staff scrutinize lawmakers to see whether an investigation is warranted.

The Washington Post reported in its online edition Thursday that the document was disclosed on a publicly accessible computer network and made available to the newspaper by a source familiar with such networks.

The Post reported that nearly half the members of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee were under scrutiny.

The previously disclosed inquiry involves lawmakers who steered appropriations to clients of a now-defunct lobbying firm and received campaign contributions from the firm and its clients.

The names included three lawmakers previously identified in the inquiry: the chairman of the defense subcommittee, Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa.; and Reps. Peter Visclosky, D-Ind., and James Moran, D-Va.

The Post said others whose names were in the report included Reps. Norm Dicks, D-Wash., Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio, C.W. Bill Young, R-Fla., and Todd Tiahrt, R-Kan.

The committee, however, has not announced an investigation of any of these lawmakers.

Waters is the No. 3 Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee and chairwoman of its subcommittee on housing. She has been an influential voice in the committee’s work to overhaul financial regulations.

Waters came under scrutiny after former Treasury Department officials said she helped arrange a meeting between regulators and executives at OneUnited Bank last year without mentioning her husband’s financial ties to the institution.

Her husband, Sidney Williams, holds at least $250,000 in the bank’s stock and previously had served on its board. Waters’ spokesman, Michael Levin, said Williams was no longer on the board when the meeting was arranged.

What ObamaCARE will cost the average family

Democrats who are desperate to ram heatlcare “reform” down America’s throats love to use the phrase “affordable” healthcare. But how do they actually define “afordable”? Dick Morris explains the details. First off, if you don’t have insurance, you will be required to buy it. The legislation specifies how much you will have to pay for the coverage before any subsidy kicks in.

* If your household income is $66,000 a year, slightly above the national average, Obama’s healthcare bill will require you to spend 12 percent of your income — about $8,000 a year or almost $700 a month — to buy health insurance before you get any federal subsidy.

* Even those making less will have to reach deep into their meager resources to satisfy Obama’s statutory requirement. Families scraping by on only $44,000 a year will have to pay 7 percent of their income (about $3,000) on insurance.

* Even those making just $33,000 will have to ante up 4.5 percent of their income (about $1500) for health insurance.

* The required payments reach so far down the scale that those who are living at the federal poverty level of $22,000 will have to shell out 2 percent of their totally inadequate incomes ($440) for insurance. That Obama is charging premiums to those living at or on the border of poverty is absolutely incredible! And this from a candidate who pledged that he would not tax the middle class! If you have insurance, you will get hit by his proposed 40 percent tax on insurance premiums.

* When the tax — and the legislation — takes effect in 2013, all families making about $120,000 or more in combined household income (14 percent of all families or one in seven) will have to pay the tax.

* By the next year, 2014, the tax will hit every family making more than $100,000 (about 18 percent of all families or one in six)

* By 2019, 10 years hence, the tax will reach down to effect every family making more than $75,000 a year (31 percent of families or one in three).

The tax will take 40 percent of all premiums above $21,000.

Federal Deficit Hits a new record: $1.42 Trillion

Congrats to you Democrats and Barack Hussein Obama. The federal budget deficit has surged to a new, all-time record high of $1.42 trillion, as the recession as tax revenues to plunge while the government’s massive spending has put a debt on our kids and grandkids that will be nearly impossible to dig out of. The budget year ended on September 30th and the deficit is more than triple that of last year’s previous record under Dubya.

According to liberal biased NPR:

President Barack Obama has pledged to reduce the deficit once the Great Recession ends and the unemployment rate starts falling.

But economists worry the government lacks the will to make the hard political choices to cut spending and raise taxes to get control of the imbalances.

For 2009, the government collected $2.10 trillion in revenues, a 16.6 percent drop from 2008. The plunge reflected declining income tax collections as millions of Americans lost their jobs or saw their wages cut. Corporate taxes also plummeted as the recession squeezed companies’ profit margins.

Government spending last year jumped to $3.52 trillion, up 18.2 percent over 2008. The $700 billion financial bailout fund and increased spending and tax relief from the $787 billion economic stimulus program that Obama pushed through Congress in February drove the increase.

For September, a month when the government usually records surpluses, the deficit totaled $46.6 billion. That’s a sharp contrast to the $45.7 billion surplus in September 2008, the last time the government’s books were in the black.

In issuing the final budget figures, top administration officials said the president was determined to get control of the deficits in coming years.

“It was critical that we acted to bring the economy back from the brink earlier this year,” White House budget director Peter Orszag said in a statement. “The president recognizes that we need to put the nation back on a fiscally sustainable path.”

Failure to curb runaway deficits could trigger a financial train wreck that would push interest rates and inflation higher, and send the dollar crashing if foreigners suddenly started dumping their holdings of Treasury securities.

Rob Simmons outraises Chris Dodd for third quarter of 2009

Rob Simmons announced that he has raised $970,000 for the 3rd quarter of this year, outraising corrupt Democrat Chriss Dodd who announced that he raised $900,000 in the third fundraising quarter. According to Politico, Dodd’s total also falls well short of the $1.2 million that he raised during the second fundraising quarter, and will be one of the lowest for incumbent senators facing competitive re-election bids.

Dodd’s campaign noted that the senator was sidelined for much of August recovering from surgery to treat his prostate cancer, and spent July working tirelessly on marking up the health care legislation as chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.

The campaign also added that Obama will be in Connecticut later this month to headline a Dodd fundraiser, which is expected to net at least $1 million to his campaign coffers.

Embattled Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) will face a 2010 primary challenge from one of his own former campaign directors.

Vince Morgan, a New York community banker who at one time worked for crook Charlie Rangel as a special assistant and campaign director, announced Monday that he would challenge Rangel for reelection. According to The Hill, Morgan’s announcement follows months of ethical scrutiny surrounding Rangel’s alleged failure to pay taxes on income from a villa he rents, in addition to several other accusations of financial impropriety against the congressman.

“It’s time for change,” Morgan said Monday in a press release. “Our district needs new leadership that is in touch with the community and the issues that confront us today.”

While Morgan’s barebones website makes no mention of the cloud that has hung over Rangel, the challenge comes on the heels of a tough week for the longtime incumbent. Rangel survived an effort last Wednesday by Republicans to strip him of his position as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, but now faces an even more expansive inquiry from the House ethics committee.

House Committee To Expand Rangel Investigation

WCBS in New York has posted that a House committee voted unanimously today to expand its investigation into New York’s slimy, corrupt Democratic Rep. You may remember during the summer Rangel’s sudden recollection of at least $500,000 in cash assets and tens of thousands of dollars of investment income that were never decleared. The House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct issued a statement on Thursday that is now going to investigate his apparent lapses in memory as part of a probe that has already lasted 16 months. In its statement, the committee wrote:

“The Committee on Standards of Official Conduct voted unanimously on October 8, 2009 to expand the jurisdiction of the investigative subcommittee’s inquiry regarding the Matter of Representative Charles B. Rangel to determine if Rep. Rangel violated the Coe of Official Conduct or any law, rule, regulation, or other standard of conduct applicable to his conduct in the performance of his duties or the discharge of his responsibilities with respect to all Financial Disclosure Statements and all amendments filed in calendar year 2009 by or on behalf of Representative Charles B. Rangel pursuant to Title I of the Ethics in Government Act.

“The investigative subcommittee has collaborated in a bipartisan manner in the performance of its duties and obligations. Congressional approval drops to 21%, Democrats drop 18 percentage points in one month!

After the Messiah took office, Congress’s approval rating spiked to 39% in March, which is actually above the average for Congress. So far for the month of October according to Gallup, Congress’s job approval ratings has plunged to 21%, down 10 points from last month. Congress’s disapproval rating has spiked to 72%, which is the highest since January of this year, when it was at 76%.

Approval of Congress today is significantly below the average 36% rating found across the past two decades. During the first half of this decade, Congress’s approval rating was mostly in the mid 40s to mid 50s, before plunging in 2006 when the Republicans lost Congress. Democrats in Congress have seen an 18 percentage point drop from September to the first week in October! For September Democrats approval rating was at 54%. However, according to the latest Gallup poll, they’ve fallen all the way down to 36%, an 18 points drop in less than a month!

Alan Grayson vows not to use the term “Holocaust” again in letter to Anti-Defamation League

Florida Democrat Alan Grayson, who compared healthcare in the United States to the Holocaust this week sent a letter to Andrew Rosenkranz, Florida regional director of the Anti-Defamation League, a prominent Jewish organization that fights anti-Semitism. In the letter, the coward Grayson didn’t even apologize to Jewish people for the remark, but instead simply “vowed not to use the term again”. Isn’t that so nice of him? More from Fox News:

Grayson evoked the Holocaust during a speech on the House floor Wednesday even though he wasn’t referring to the genocide of European Jews in Nazi concentration camps during World War II.

“I call upon all of us to do our jobs for the sake of America, for the sake of those dying people and their families,” Grayson said. “I apologize to the dead and their families that we haven’t voted sooner to end this holocaust in America.”

Grayson, who is Jewish and says he has relatives who died in the Holocaust, said he wrote the letter to address the concerns his comments caused.

“In no way did I mean to minimize the Holocaust,” Grayson wrote in the letter obtained by FOXNews.com. “I regret the choice of words, and I will not repeat it.”

Grayson added that he is a “staunch” supporter of Israel and has repeatedly called for action against Iran to avoid another Holocaust.

Rosenkranz told FOXNews.com Grayson was responding to a letter he sent him stating the group’s position that led to a phone conversation between the two on Thursday.

“It’s an improper use of Holocaust imagery,” Rosenkranz said he told Grayson. “It should never be used. A civil discourse regarding the health debate is one thing but comparing it to perhaps the world’s worst atrocity in the history of mankind is unfortunate and after speaking with him, he said he regrets making the remark.”

Rosenkranz said it didn’t make a difference whether Grayson was using the broader definition of “holocaust.”

“I think it’s important to note that when you hear the word ‘holocauast’ today, most people think of the genocide of six million Jews and that was never a point of contention between the two of us.”

Grayson still refuses to apologize for his “die quickly” comments that he made on Tuesday. His re-election campaign poked fun at the GOP for demanding an apology.

Democrats reject amendment to cut Medicade fraud

The big excuse by Obama of how ObamaCARE will not add a single dime to the deficit is that the cuts of Medicade and Medicare fraud will save about $600 billion. Senator Cornyn of Texas proposed an amendment which would have delayed expansions in Medicaid until steps had been taken to get its error/fraud rate down to 3.9%. By a margin of 13-10, along party lines, the amendment was defeated. The vote is below, which includes Blanche Lincoln (Democrat Arkansas) who is up for re-election in 2010. Make sure you let her know how you feel about this.

Remember when botox face Nancy Pelosi tried to tear up, as she was worried about all the “rhetoric” from anti-ObamaCARE protestors, and Joe Wilson’s YOU LIE at the Obama Congress speech? Remember when she said those at townhalls were carring Swastikas around? When when Joe Wilson was “punished” by the House for his YOU LIE scream? Apparently, saying Republicans want you to die quickly, and comparing health care to the Holocaust isn’t any sort of problem at all for Pelosi. According to The Hill:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) says there’s no reason for Rep. Alan Grayson to apologize for his “Die quickly” remark, since Republicans have made statements just as outrageous as his.

“If anybody’s going apologize, everybody should apologize,” Pelosi told reporters at her weekly press conference. “We are holding Democrats to a higher standard than their own members.”

She deemed the flap over Grayson’s remarks a distraction from the healthcare debate.

“Typically, Republicans would like to use this as distraction because they have no plan,” Pelosi said.

Republicans, who have been eager to compare Grayson’s remark to Rep. Joe Wilson’s (R-S.C.) “You lie!” outburst, said Pelosi’s refusal to call on Grayson to apologize meant that she condones “despicable” conduct.

“The only thing lower than the Speaker’s actions – or inaction – are her ever-worsening public approval ratings,” said Ken Spain, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
