Seventy-one percent (71%) of Republicans, for example, favor thoughtful cuts in every government program, but 58% think cuts should be considered in every program but the military. Seventy-three percent (73%) of Democrats, on the other hand, oppose spending cuts that don’t include the military, but just 59% of those in the president’s party favor the consideration of cuts in every program of the government.
Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 71% favor considering every program for spending cuts, and a plurality (49%) opposes sparing the military from these prospective cuts.

At the start of business on Tuesday, Aug. 2, according to the Daily Treasury Statement, the national debt subject to the legal limit was $14.293975 trillion. Obama signed legislation that day lifting the limit by as much as $2.4 trillion—with an initial and immediate increase in the limit of $400 billion. By the close of business on Friday, Aug. 5, according to the Daily Treasury Statement, the national debt subject to the limit had grown to $14.536130 trillion.
Over just four days, the debt had jumped $242.155 billion.

The Investigative Project on Terrorism obtained the reports referencing Dar al-Hijrah through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request seeking records related to a brief detention of Awlaki. Those records were copies of TECS reports – a computer database operated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Some of the reports released to the IPT are redacted.

TECS data generally provides a summary narrative and referral to more detailed case references and case agent contacts.

The TECS reports dated in 2002 obtained under this FOIA stated that Dar Al-Hijrah was “associated with Islamic extremists” and was “operating as a front for Hamas operatives in U.S.” A report dated in December, 2007, said the mosque “has been linked to numerous individuals linked to terrorism financing” and “has also been associated with encouraging fraudulent marriages.” Another December 2007 report advised Dar Al-Hijrah, “has been under numerous investigations for financing and proving (sic) aid and comfort to bad orgs and members.”

The TECS reports indicate that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) generated the information.

Federal law enforcement officials have become well acquainted with Dar al-Hijrah over the years.

It was home to radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, today considered the inspiration to Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hassan and Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the Nigerian man who tried to detonate an explosive in his underpants on a flight to Detroit Christmas Day. Reports also indicate that Times Square attempted bomber Faisal Shahzad was inspired in part by Awlawki.

Obama also asked lawmakers to approve a US contribution to the fund to 100 billion dollars, as part of the plan to swell International Monetary Fund reserves agreed at this month’s Group of 20 summit in London. The president made the request in several letters to Democratic and Republican congressional leaders on Monday, pointing out that the fund did not require an extra financial outlay from the United States.

When Washington transfers funds to the IMF under the program, known as an expansion of the New Arrangements to Borrow (NAB), it would receive interest bearing assets in return, backed up by IMF resources including gold stocks.

“Our proposal to increase US participation in the NAB by up to 100 billion as part of an overall increase of 500 billion dollars was warmly endorsed by the G20 Leaders,” the letters said.
