Thomas started at the White House as a reporter during the Kennedy administration. In a video interview captured at a White House Jewish heritage event for RabbiLIVE.com that spread quickly across the Internet, Thomas advised Israeli Jews to “get the hell out of Palestine” and “go home” to Poland, Germany, America and “everywhere else.”

“This ticker tape keeps coming in,” Nesenoff told FoxNews.com. “We got one specific one saying, ‘We’re going to kill the Jews; watch your back.’”

Nesenoff said he was shocked not only by Thomas’ original remarks — which he called anti-Semitic — but by the wave of insults and threats he has received since his videotape brought about her public shaming and the end of her 50-year career at the White House.

“This is something that I thought was a couple of people here or there, [but] it’s mainstream and it’s frightening,” the Long Island rabbi said. “[Thomas] is just a little cherry on top of this huge, huge sundae of hate in America.”

On the other side of the Camera was a Rabbi, his son, and his son’s school buddy, all three were wearing yarmulkas, Thomas should have had the self-control to understand that maybe she should tone down the rhetoric a bit. The other is in the middle of her statement, you hear the woman holding her arm say, “Helen can be blunt” trying to get Thomas to tone it down, that plea is ignored.

During Thomas’ fifty-seven years as a correspondent for United Press International, Thomas earned a reputation as a tough questioner willing to put the feet of politicians to the fire, while simultaneously becoming a whipping boy for conservatives who objected to her liberal viewpoints and, later, for her privileged position within the White House press corps (the middle seat in the front row was — first by protocol and then by mandate — designated for Thomas). She became the first female officer of the National Press Club as well as the first female member of the White House Correspondents Association and the Gridiron Club. When UPI was acquired by News World Communications, Inc. in 2000, Thomas resigned from the organization and later joined Hearst Newspapers as a columnist, where she covered national affairs.
