Hillary Clinton offends the Brits over Falklands

This administration continues to do a masterful job pissing off or country’s allies. The latest example is Hillary Clinton and the Brits. Nile Gardiner of the UK Telegraph writes:

The transcript of Hillary Clinton’s press conference in Buenos Aires with Argentine President Kristina Kirchner last night, has just been released by the State Department, and it is a real eye-opener. Her remarks represent an astonishing propaganda coup for the Peronist regime in its dispute with Britain over the Falklands, with Washington brazenly backing its position.Hillary Clinton’s statements at this press conference are highly significant, as they demonstrate a clear shift in US policy from neutrality (last week’s position) towards siding with the Argentine position of pressing for negotiations over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands at the United Nations.

The Secretary of State, a highly skilled political operator, knows exactly what she is doing here. She is giving her full support for the official stance of Buenos Aires, despite the fact that Great Britain has made it clear that the sovereignty of the Falklands is non-negotiable. She makes no reference at all to the fact that Argentina recently threatened a blockade of the Falklands, or that its close ally Venezuela has been threatening war against Britain.

Hillary Clinton’s dire performance in Buenos Aires was not only an appalling display of appeasement towards a corrupt and authoritarian anti-American regime, which barely has the support of 20 percent of the Argentinian people. It was also an astonishing betrayal of the United Kingdom by her closest ally, and yet another slap in the face for Britain from the Obama administration.

Clinton has demonstrated, not the first time, strikingly poor judgment as Secretary of State. While currying favour with a third rate kleptocracy in Latin America, she is alienating America’s most loyal and valuable friend at a critically important time. She also underestimates the resolve of the British people, who will never negotiate the future of the Falkland Islands. If the Argentines want the Falklands they will have to fight for them, and if they choose to do so they will be emphatically defeated, just as they were in 1982. Hillary Clinton can cry for Argentina if she wants to, but the Falklands will be forever British.

Is Hillary Clinton planning ahead for a run against Obama in 2012? Of course she wouldn’t admit it in her interview with Tavis Smiley on PBS, but you have to wonder. Much like Obama told ABC that he’d rather be a really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president,” Hillary Clinton basically told Tavis Smiley the same thing (for Sectretary of State). According to PBS, her interview with Tavis Smiley with air at 8pm PST tonight on PBS. According to Politico, Hillary Clinton basically tells Smiley she does not envision serving as Secretary of State for a second term. She also tells Smiley she is “absolutely not interested” in another presidential run (which many people know is pure BS):

TAVIS SMILEY: Finally, there’s already speculation about whether or not Secretary Clinton is going to do this for the full first time, and whether or not she has any interest if asked to stay on to do it for eight years? You see how tough the job is, can you imagine yourself doing all four years and, if asked, doing it for another four years?

HILLARY CLINTON: No, I really can’t. I mean, it is just…

TAVIS SMILEY: No to what? All four or eight?

HILLARY CLINTON: The whole, the whole eight, I mean, that that would be very challenging. But I, you know, I don’t wanna make any predictions sitting here, I’m honored to serve, I serve at the pleasure of the President, but it’s a, it’s a 24/7 job, and I think at some point, I will be very happy to LAUGHS pass it on to someone else.

TAVIS SMILEY: That opens the door for the obvious question, what would Hillary Clinton want to do when she is no longer Secretary of State?

HILLARY CLINTON: Oh, I, there’s so many things I’m interested in, I mean, really going back to private life and spending time reading, and writing, and maybe teaching, doing some personal travel, not the kind of travel where you bring along a couple of hundred people with you. Just focusing on, on issues of women, girls, families, the kind of intersection between what’s considered ‘real politique’ and real life politics, which has always fascinated me.

TAVIS SMILEY: And finally, just for the record, you have said before, emphatically, in fact, that you are not interested in running again for President of the United States, I’m taking your answer now to mean that that’s still the same?

HILLARY CLINTON: Absolutely not interested.

Again, leave it to the overseas media to do actually reporting on this, not the so called lame stream media in America. While the media here scrambled to come up with excuses for Harry Reid’s “No Negro Dialect” comment directed at Obama, there were plenty of other developments that have come out too. And now this for the Times UK about Hillary Clinton accusing Obama of cheating in the 2008 Democrat primaries!

Israel National News reports that a (anonymous) White House officials has told the New Republic magazine this week that the Obama administration has been embarrassed at least twice by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, for revealing in public information and policies that the State Department was supposed to keep private between Israel, the Palestinian Authority, and the U.S. I’ve been embarassed at least twice by Obama bowing to the Saudi King and the Japanese Emperor, but that doesn’t count as news.

According to the sources, Clinton was not supposed to reveal publicly the U.S. demand that Israel institute a total building freeze in Judea and Samaria, fearing that it would lead to a confrontation with Israel – which it did, after U.S. President Barack Obama publicly backed Clinton. The second instance was the famous statement by Clinton in a joint press conference with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on October 31, when Clinton said that Netanyahu had undertaken “unprecedented concessions,” a comment that angered the PA leadership. According to the sources, Clinton has been getting bad advice from her advisers.

Palestinians Accuse Billary Clinton of Undermining Peace Talks With Shift on Settlements

Palestinians are now accusing U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton of undermining progress toward Mideast peace talks after she praised Israel for offering to curb some Jewish settlement construction. I say good for you Hillary, its about time you do something right! Although knowing Obama’s true feeling/attitudes towards Israel, this was probably nothing more than just lip service. After meeting Israeli and Palestinian leaders during a visit Saturday, Clinton called for an unconditional resumption of peace talks and welcomed Israel’s offer for a slowdown in settlement activity. But according to Fox News, Palestinians rejected the idea of resuming talks, reiterating their demand that Israel must first freeze all construction of Jewish settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem — lands they claim for a future state.

“I believe that the U.S. condones continued settlement expansion,” Palestinian government spokesman Ghassan Khatib said in a rare public chiding of Washington.

“Calling for a resumption of negotiations despite continued settlement construction doesn’t help because we have tried this way many times,” Khatib added. “Negotiations are about ending the occupation and settlement expansion is about entrenching the occupation.”

Palestinians expressed deep disappointment and frustration at Clinton’s words, which signaled a departure from past U.S. calls for a complete freeze on settlement activity.

“If America cannot get Israel to implement a settlement freeze, what chance do Palestinians have of reaching agreement with Israel on permanent status issues?” Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said.

Similar sentiments were voiced by Jordan and Egypt, the only two Arab countries to have peace agreements with Israel. The two countries said most of the blame lay with Israel, but signaled their unhappiness with the American shift.

Jordan’s King Abdullah II traveled to Cairo for talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. After the meeting, a royal palace statement released in Jordan said both leaders “insisted on the need for an immediate halt of all Israeli unilateral actions, which undermine the chances of achieving peace, especially the settlement construction.”

Clinton is set to meet with Arab foreign ministers in Morocco in the coming days.

After taking office at the start of this year, President Barack Obama buoyed Palestinian hopes with his outreach to the Muslim world and an initially tough stance urging a full freeze to all settlement construction.

“Maybe that’s the case; maybe they’re not gettable. I don’t know… As far as we know, they are in Pakistan,” Clinton told senior Pakistani newspaper editors in Lahore, AFP reported. “The percentage of taxes on GDP (in Pakistan) is among the lowest in the world… We (the United States) tax everything that moves and doesn’t move, and that’s not what we see in Pakistan,” she said.

Just heard on the Sean Hannity radio show from Bill Krystol that Hillary Clinton may be getting ready to resign as Secretary of State, so that she could make a run for Governor of NY. Wonder if Krystol mentions anything about this on the “all star panel” during the Special Report “all start panel”.

However, in an article at the New York Post, the story is gaining more steam. According to the NYP story Hillary Clinton is “fed up” with her lack of authority as Secretary of State:

Hillary Clinton is said to be frustrated with her lack of authority as secretary of state and resentful of the glacial pace of the White House vetting process. “President Obama’s picks fly in even if they didn’t pay their taxes. But her picks take forever,” noted one Democrat. “Plus, she has no real clout over Holbrooke or Mitchell.” Richard Holbrooke is Obama’s “special representative” for Afghanistan and Pakistan. George Mitchell is “special envoy” to the Middle East. Clinton is said to be considering quitting to retake her old US Senate seat now held by Kristin Gillibrand — or running for governor, as one rumor has it. “Her argument will be that Gillibrand is in danger of losing the seat to the Republicans,” said a source. But Gillibrand won’t voluntarily step aside, unlike Rep. Nita Lowey, whom Clinton nudged out of the race in 2000. “You couldn’t blow Gillibrand out of that seat with dynamite,” said our source. Clinton’s rep did not get back to us by deadline.

This is bleeping golden! Jumping in Pools has an intesting post that appeared in the L.A. Times on July 22nd:

since the disputed elections in Iran on June 12, there has been a widening split in the White House over foreign policy. President Obama, flanked by Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel believe in the ‘balanced’ approach the President has been taking on the subject. However, some in the White House, including Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary Clinton, have been calling for a tougher foreign policy stance.
There has been a widening dispute between the President and Secretary Clinton over several key points. While the major one was over Iran, Clinton disagrees with Obama’s plans to open relations with Cuba, the Sudan, and Syria.

The two reportedly engaged in a heated verbal argument early this month, with the President deciding to curtail the Secretary’s functions. These have included denying Clinton the ability to hire Sidney Blumenthal, a former Bill Clinton aide, as an advisor. Clinton was also absent when the President visited the G-8 conference this month. In addition, Obama sent Vice President Biden on an important trip to Eastern Europe instead of Clinton.

Rumblings of the split have been chronicled in the New York Times and the New York Daily News, but the splits appeared to be superficial in character.

However, late last week, the Los Angeles Times acquired a statement from White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel stating that Secretary Clinton was on ‘thin ice.’ Most troubling to the White House have been several statements pertaining to US foreign policy which were not cleared by the White House. One was a statement in which Clinton stated that she “hoped democracy would triumph” in Iran.

How exactly has Obama muzzled the Clintons? Dick Morris explains it perfectly. Obama has surrounded Hillary with his people and carved up her jurisdiction geographically. Former Sen. George Mitchell (D-Maine) is in charge of Arab-Israeli relations. Dennis Ross has Iran. Former U.N. Ambassador Dick Holbrooke has Pakistan and Afghanistan. And Hillary has to share her foreign policy role on the National Security Council (NSC) with Vice President Biden, U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice, CIA chief Leon Panetta, and NSC staffer Samantha Powers (who once called Hillary a “monster”). Here’s more from Morris’s article:

With peers who are competitors and subordinates who can deal directly with the president, Hillary is reduced to announcing foreign aid packages for Pakistan while Holbrooke does the heavy lifting.

Part of Hillary’s problem is the institutional shrinking of the State Department. During the Bush years, while war raged, the Defense Department became more relevant to the conduct of foreign policy. And, under Obama, the financial crisis has propelled the Treasury into the forefront. State, with its emphasis on traditional diplomacy, has been forced to take a back seat. Even though Obama appointed Hillary, he clearly has not been willing to make her a co-president and confines her to the diminished role of her department.

For his part, Bill Clinton has been asked to be a special envoy to Haiti. Yes, Haiti. Obama’s predecessor asked the former president to orchestrate the response to the Asian tsunami and then to Hurricane Katrina. Obama gives him Haiti.

Meanwhile, both Clintons are effectively muzzled and cannot criticize Obama even as he reverses President Clinton’s free market proclivities and budget balancing discipline. Hillary, the supposed friend of Israel, must sit by quietly and watch Iran get the bomb while trying all the while to stop Israel from preventing it.

Bill can’t even make money. Denied the ability to accept speeches from foreign governments or their organs and fenced out of continuing his profitable relationship with the Emir of Dubai, he and his wife must accept the loss of the $13 million they spent on her campaign and sit by passively, unable to earn the money to replace it.

Certainly this is no laughing matter, yet when Hillary Clinton was commenting about the pirate/hostage issue, during her remarks she let loose with a “let’s change the subject” laugh. Remember the way the media and the left was salivating over the Abramoff scandal? There has been a deafening silence about all of the dem politicians that have benefited from Madoff. First lets look at this from Liberty’s Apothecary

Winners in the Madoff/Ponzi sweepstakes included Hillary Rodham (”It’s-Been-an-Interesting-Marriage”) Clinton, now Obama’s Secretary of State; Senator Charles (”The-People-Just-Don’t-Care-About-Earmarks”) Schumer (D.N.Y); Congressman Charles (”Whattaya-Mean-I-Gotta-Pay-My-Fair-Share-of-Taxes?”) Rangel (D.N.Y.); and Congressman David (”Don’t-Ask-Me-About-Earmarks”) Obey (D.WI.), Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and co-author of the original, cosmetically-enhanced porker ultimately enacted as the “stimulus bill.” These Democrats received, at one time or another, thousands of dollars from Madoff.

Moreover, Democrat senatorial candidates in general – including one particular then-serving junior senator from Illinois - received indirect benefits from the over $100,000.00 in political contributions Madoff or his controlled entities made between 1998 and 2008 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

In total, he and his wife, Ruth, have given $238,200 to federal candidates, parties and committees since 1991, with Democrats getting 88 percent of that. Overall, Madoff and other individuals at his company, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities, gave $372,100 in campaign contributions since 1991, with 89 percent to Democrats. The firm spent $590,000 on lobbying in the last 11 years, all but $10,000 of it with the lobbying firm of Lent, Scrivner & Roth. A search for funds with “Madoff” in their title in lawmakers’ personal investments did not find any members of Congress with their own funds invested with him.

The ‘tired’ excuse again, this time for Hillary Clinton

With all the talk during the election about how ‘old and tired’ John McCain would be, since he’s such an old man, it seems the tired excuse is getting to the new Hussein Obama adminsitration. First it was the ‘tired’ and ‘overwhelmed’ excuse when Obama embarassed the country with the 25 dvds given to Gordon Brown. Now apparently Hillary is tired too. Forget the whole reset button where she couldn’t even translate to Russian correctly. It seems orget the fact that State can’t translate Russian. Hillary doesn’t understand history. period! Reuters shows more brilliance from Hillary regarding the European Parliament:

“I have never understood multiparty democracy.

“It is hard enough with two parties to come to any resolution, and I say this very respectfully, because I feel the same way about our own democracy, which has been around a lot longer than European democracy.”

Check out who received “donations” from Bernie Madoff whos $50 billion Ponzi scheme is the biggest purported fraud in history, according to the NY Post:

Fox 5 New York reported last night that Sen. Charles Schumer tops the donor list of Madoff and his family, at $29,300. Schumer’s office said it had donated $8,000 of the stash to police and fire endowments.

Others who got donations from Madoff or his family were Democratic NJ Sen. Frank Lautenberg, who got $11,600; Hillary Rodham Clinton, who got nearly $9,000 for her Senate and presidential campaigns; disgraced former Republican Rep. Vito Fossella and Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney, who both collected $3,000; and Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel, who received $2,000.

Does a day go by anymore without some sort of problem with an Obama appointment? Theres rumblings today about Treasury Secretary nominee aka, the man who will be incharge of our taxes Timothy Geithner facing questions over the immigration status of a former housekeeper and whether he paid Social Security and Medicare taxes. And of course theres Billary Hillary Clinton’s continued pay to play problems coming home to roost. Good ole Billary Hillary Clinton goes before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee today to begin her confirmation process, but she’s hardly an unknown quantity. She served in the Senate for eight years, and the tradition of the club dictates an easy and comfortable confirmation process. Perhaps, though, we can hope that one member of the most exclusive political club on Capitol Hill might ask Hillary about her habit of paying back her husband’s donors:

Secretary of State appointee Hillary Rodham Clinton intervened at least six times in government issues directly affecting companies and others that later contributed to her husband’s foundation, an Associated Press review of her official correspondence found.

The overlap of names on former President Bill Clinton’s foundation donor list and business interests whose issues she championed raises new questions about potential ethics conflicts between her official actions and her husband’s fundraising. The AP obtained three of the senator’s government letters under the Freedom of Information Act. …

The letters and donations involve pharmaceutical companies and telecommunications and energy interests. An aide to the senator said she made no secret of her involvement in many of the issues. Bill Clinton’s foundation declined to say when it received the donations or precisely how much was contributed.
