Eleazar Rangel-Ochoa pleaded not guilty Friday, he’s accused of running a red light at 180th and Center, causing the crash that killed 4 year old girl Josie Bluhm. Eleazer Rangel-Ochoa also pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide and felony driving while under suspension. The little girl named Josie Bluhm who was only 4 years old died of her injuries following a crash, in which Eleazer Rangel-Ochoa ran a red light and collided with the minivan Bluhm was in. Rangel-Ochoa also had three prior convictions for DUI, according to Douglas County officials. Rangel Ochoa’s attorney, Joseph Lopez-Wilson, said following Friday’s hearing that his client has been living in the U.S. for 14 years. He said Rangel-Ochoa is “devastated” about what happened and his thoughts are with the Bluhm family. Yea, I’ll bet he’s devastated. FOR BEING CAUGHT. Funeral services for Josie Bluhm are planned for Saturday morning in Nebraska.

Zeituni Onyango, the Kenyan aunt of President Obama, emerged this morning after a brief, closed-door hearing in US Immigration Court and smiled broadly.
“Praise God,” Onyango said softly, holding her head high as she was surrounded by a throng of men in suits.
Judge Leonard I. Shapiro continued Onyango’s case until Feb. 4, 2010, which allowed her to stay in the United States until at least that date, according to Fatimah Mateen, a spokesperson for the court. At the initial appearance, the judge explained the deportation charges against Onyango and detailed her rights. Mateen briefed reporters in the lobby of the courtroom, standing beneath a framed photograph of Onyango’s nephew, President Obama.
“Ms. Onyango case is being treated just like any other case before an immigration judge,” Mateen said.

With Republicans yet again not standing in the way of this and going right along for the ride, The illegal alien college tuition discount bill known as the “DREAM Act” has been reintroduced according to Michelle Malkin:
Congressmen Howard Berman (D-CA) and Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL), announced the reintroduction today of the DREAM Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. This legislation will restore the States’ rights to determine residency requirements for higher education benefits – giving states the option to provide in-state tuition. The American DREAM Act seeks to facilitate access to postsecondary educational opportunities for immigrant students in the United States who currently face barriers in pursuing a college education.

Last year, the DREAM Act fell eight votes short of cloture in the Senate (see Donny’s detailed post for more). As with several other pieces of legislation in the 111th Congress, however, this time around the bill has a supporter in the White House. President Barack Obama helped to pass similar legislation while in the Illinois state legislature, and has voiced support for the federal legislation on the campaign trail.
Critics contend the legislation would spend federal money on undocumented immigrants at the expense of American citizens, and that the bill would encourage illegal immigration. They also argue that citizens and residents would be forced to compete with undocumented immigrants for spots in college and university classes.
The education factor is a big one — while the legislation does not appropriate funds for students, it would enable eligible immigrants to obtain in-state tuition rates at schools in some states. According to the UCLA Center for Labor Research and Education, 65,000 undocumented immigrants in America graduate high school each year.

Hispanic Democrats will have their first meeting with Hussein Obama on tommorow morning to discuss immigration reform (aka amnesty). According to The Hill:
The meeting is the first face-to-face sit-down between Obama and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) since the president was sworn in. Some in the CHC have recently expressed frustration that Obama has not talked more about immigration in his first two months in office.
Immigration reform is front-and-center on the group’s agenda.
CHC is eager to hear the president’s ideas and proposals for tackling immigration reform, not only regarding a comprehensive reform bill that could provide a pathway to citizenship for millions of undocumented workers but also as it relates to rolling back Bush administration policies of raiding workplaces and detaining and deporting thousands of illegal workers.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano on Wednesday ordered a review of a raid at an engine plant in Washington State that resulted in the arrests of 28 people suspected of being illegal immigrants.
A high-level official in the Department of Homeland Security said that Ms. Napolitano had not been informed about the raid on Tuesday before it happened, and that she was seeking details about its planning and scope.
“She was not happy about it because it’s inconsistent with her position, and the president’s position on these matters,” said the official, who agreed to discuss the matter on condition of anonymity because the secretary had not authorized the conversation.
You can be sure the taxpayer-funded National Council of Raza will use all the earmark money it will be receiving to lobby aggressively for comprehensive shamnesty:
The National Council of La Raza urged supporters to call the White House and demand Mr. Obama lay out his immigration policy, while the National Immigration Forum said the raid was an unwelcome continuation of Bush administration policies.
“What are Latino and immigrant voters to think? They turn out in massive numbers and vote for change and yet ‘change we can believe in’ turns out to be ‘business as usual,’ ” said Ali Noorani, executive director of the forum.
He called for a halt to the raids while Homeland Security conducts its review of immigration policies.
As for the poor, innocent workers nabbed in the raid, guess what? The raid was the result of a gang investigation:
“Information derived from two gang members previously arrested in an ICE gang operation led to the initiation of the work-site investigation at Yamato Engine Specialists,” said press secretary Kelly Nantel. “Follow-up investigation uncovered a potentially large number of illegally employed workers. ICE conducted the operation in order to identify and if appropriate, apprehend any unauthorized workers and to further determine potential criminal activity.”

News broke over the weekend that an arrest may be imminent in the Chandra Levy murder case. There is reportedly DNA evidence linking Levy to illegal alien sex offender Ingmar Guandique. His name should be familiar to those of you who have followed the story over the years. Michelle Malkin first wrote about Guandique nearly seven years ago — and I’m seeing history repeat itself again with the MSM’s whitewashing of Guandique’s immigration status (just look at these search results and spot the missing word.)

“ILLEGAL ALIEN QUESTIONED IN CHANDRA LEVY CASE.”
Did you miss that headline in the news last week? Well, that’s because no one ran it.
Ingmar Guandique, a violent Salvadoran national who is serving a 10-year sentence for assaulting two female joggers in Washington’s Rock Creek Park last year, was interrogated recently as part of the investigation into the intern murder mystery. But in my review of all 115 news items archived in the Lexis-Nexis database that mention Guandique in connection with the Levy case, not a single story referred to his status as a criminal illegal alien.
The Associated Press described Guandique merely as an “immigrant;” the New York Times called him a “Washington man.” On the basic questions of where Guandique came from, how he got here, and how he managed to stay, the Washington Post-the mainstream media giant closest to the scene of Guandique’s crimes- has printed nothing at all.
Though Guandique reportedly passed lie detector tests, he remains an unofficial person of interest in the Levy case. D.C. police chief Charles Ramsey says the media is making too big a deal of Guandique. Quite the contrary. The glaring omission of Guandique’s immigration status from the mainstream media’s no-stone-unturned Levy coverage is a newsworthy act of negligence as the nation grapples with lax borders and national (in)security.
Only one media outlet, the invaluable Washington, D.C.-based newsweekly Human Events, has published the pertinent facts. Editor Terry Jeffrey reported this week that not only is Guandique an illegal alien, but also that the INS had given him a green light to work in the country legally while his application for “Temporary Protected Status (TPS)” was pending. Guandique’s TPS application was eventually denied, but not before he committed two brutal attacks in the same park where Chandra Levy’s body was found.
TPS is basically a bad-weather pass into the U.S. Whenever a natural disaster strikes, we allow thousands of foreigners to stay here-mostly from Latin America-while their homelands supposedly recover. But the INS doesn’t track down TPS beneficiaries once their status expires. Worse, INS chief James Ziglar recently remarked during a trip to the Mexican border that it would be neither “reasonable” nor “practical” to deport millions of illegal aliens who have snuck across the borders, violated their visas, or overstayed on TPS. How many future Guandiques (or Attas or Almihdhars) are among them? Ziglar doesn’t seem to care. He’s too busy nullifying the immigration laws he’s supposed to enforce.
The public deserves informed analysis of whether fraud-ridden immigration programs such as Temporary Protected Status and other various forms of amnesty have come at the expense of our public safety and the national interest. But how can the question be answered if the press never asks?
Instead of hard-nosed analysis, observed author William McGowan at a forum on immigration and media coverage hosted by the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington, D.C., last week, journalists maintain an “overly romantic” view of the issue. McGowan’s penetrating new book, “Coloring The News,” documents how political correctness has corrupted coverage of myriad policy issues, including immigration. He noted superficial reporting of airport security and visa screening issues in the pro-illegal alien New York Times before September 11, sympathetic stories on providing driver’s licenses to illegal aliens, and the flippant title of a bleeding-heart Times magazine cover piece a few years back: “What Immigration Crisis?”
Another panel member and veteran immigration analyst, Lodi (Calif.) News-Sentinel columnist Joe Guzzardi, reported on the results of a 1,500-article review he conducted for NumbersUSA.com, a grass-roots reform group, to gauge fairness and balance of immigration coverage. “Very few stories met the reporters’ definition of fair and balanced,” he said. Most news stories are frontloaded with quotes from illegal immigration and open borders advocates, while opposing views are buried and marginalized.
Indeed, most editors still can’t even bring themselves to use the term “illegal,” preferring the flagrantly biased euphemism, “undocumented.”
Questions about the adequacy of immigration news coverage, as the Center for Immigration Studies noted, are longer academic. It’s “a matter of life and death.” When will the media take off the rose-colored blinders and start reporting the true costs of our continuing, criminal-friendly immigration policies?
Que? Obama ‘Very Committed’ to Legalizing Aliens
Last week, Obama called into Univision Radio’s Eddie “Piolin” Sotelo show, fulfilling a promise to be a guest if elected.
“I promised you that I would be on the show when I was president, and here I am on the show,” Obama told Sotelo.
Asked by Sotelo about the issue of immigration, Obama promised action soon.
Obama said: “Well, as I’ve said every time I’ve been on the show, Piolín, we’re going to make sure that we begin the process of dealing with the immigration system that’s broken. We’re going to start by really trying to work on how to improve the current system so that people who want to be naturalized, who want to become citizens, like you did, that they are able to do it; that it’s cheaper, that it’s faster, that they have an easier time in terms of sponsoring family members. And then we’ve got to have comprehensive immigration reform.”
Has hell frozen over?
A Democrat governor is calling for illegal alien criminals to be deported faster. Did I actually read this right? Has hell frozen over? Is there world peace? It’s true: Washington state Gov. Christine Gregoire has proposed a partnership with the feds to finally expedite the illegal alien criminal deportation process through the 287(g) program, which I’ve reported on extensively. (See here for background.)
Strapped budgets have a way of helping cure open-borders blindness (via Seattle Times, hat tip – Orbusmax). Better late than never.
To save money, Gov. Chris Gregoire wants illegal aliens serving time in state prisons deported.
Her proposal estimates that deporting illegal aliens — who are serving or would serve time for drug or property crime convictions — will save the state more than $9 million in the next two-year budget.
The state faces a $5.7 billion budget deficit over the next 2 1/2 years, and Gregoire has proposed a no new-taxes budget proposal laden with cuts, including about $200 million from the Department of Corrections, the attorney general’s office, and other public safety programs.
The deportation proposal is modeled after a program in Arizona that has saved the state more than $18.5 million since 2005, said Eldon Vail, secretary of the Washington Department of Corrections.
“It’s not an ideal choice, if revenue was there, I’d say have them do their time,” Vail said. “Is justice better served? It’s a tough question to wrestle with when you don’t have resources.”
The proposal would call for the state to come to an agreement with U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, which would carry out the deportations. In Washington, there are about 350 prisoners who would be eligible to be transferred to ICE. On average, it costs the state $90 a day to imprison an inmate, Vail said.
It also includes allowing state workers to act as immigration agents in some instances, assisting ICE in processing illegal aliens under a version of the so-called 287(g) agreements, which are contentious among immigrant advocates.
