Oh and those “fiscal conservatives” in the House have already approved $1.3 billion in military aid and $250 million in economic aid to Egypt for this year.

“The Syrian regime may have drawn comfort from events at the U.N. Security Council, but we will do everything that we can to make sure that comfort is short-lived,” Hague vowed. “This is a doomed regime as well as a murdering regime. There is no way it can recover its credibility internationally or with its own people.”
The United States closed its embassy in Syria and pulled out remaining staff after the Syrian government refused to address its security concerns, the State Department said.

Hague said his country called its ambassador home for consultations. And he demanded that Syria protect the British Embassy in Damascus.
Britain also called Syria’s ambassador for a meeting at the foreign office.

A Washington-based consultant who works with USAID and the State Department says the focus of the aid to Egypt has been on helping the smaller political parties that are competing against the better organized Freedom and Justice Party, the Muslim Brotherhood’s party.

This week saw the first round of Parliamentary elections, with voting in nine of the country’s 27 provinces. The staggered elections will continue over the coming months. The Freedom and Justice Party won 40 percent of the vote on Wednesday, with an additional 15 percent going to the Salafis, a group of hard-line Islamists who reject the right of women to vote.

The Transitional National Council had informed the media of the capture, but provided no proof of the seizure. The International Criminal Court had previously confirmed the capture of Seif al-Islam, who along with his father faces charges of crimes against humanity.

ABC News’ Luis Martinez (@LMartinezABC) reports: The cost of U.S. military intervention in Libya has cost American taxpayers an estimated $896 million through July 31, the Pentagon said today.

The price tag includes the amounts for daily military operations, munitions used in the operation and humanitarian assistance for the Libyan people.

The U.S. has also promised $25 million in non-lethal aid to the Libyan Transitional National Council, half of which the Defense Department has already on MRE’s (military lingo for Meals, Ready to Eat).

Independent analyst Andrew Lipow said oil markets will likely respond Monday by sending prices lower in “a sign of relief that conflict has come to the end.” But Lipow said it will take time for the market to erase the hefty price increase that resulted from the suspension of Libyan oil exports since the rebellion began in February.

Just 13% of Republican voters favor continued military involvement in Libya, compared to 25% of Democrats and 22% of voters not affiliated with either party.
Half of Political Class voters (51%) support continued U.S. involvement in Libya, compared to just 15% of Mainstream Voters who feel the same.

“What I learned from my meeting with President Assad is that he does care about what’s happening, that he wants to respond, that he’s thinking about the different ways that would be the best way to address the needs of the people,” Kucinich said in the interview, video of which was provided to TheDC by The Middle East Media Research Institute. “And that’s what he’s talking about. He’s talking about the people. He’s very engaged in that kind of a discussion. And frankly, that’s a positive development.”

Kucinich does note that there is a democratic movement afoot in Syria, but says that the government is responding appropriately.

“There are great democratic aspirations for freedom. And it’s part of this desire for freedom which is really sweeping the region and the world. And that the government is listening to the people,” Kucinich said. “But you’re at the point right now where it must, from what I’ve seen, the government shows a willingness to listen, shows a desire to help the people, work with the people to bring about change.”

Remember, this is the same Dennis Kucinich who sued congressional cafeteria over an olive pit.

The report says 15 innocent civilians were killed and 20 wounded in the strike.

“Well, I was more concerned about what the candidates in New Hampshire the other night said,” McCain said. “This is isolationism. There’s always been an isolation strain — isolationist strain on the Republican Party, Pat Buchanan-wing of our party. But now it seems to have moved more center stage, so to speak.”

McCain even had the nerve to invoked Ronald Reagan into the discussion on protecting Europe’s oil interests in Libya for the warmongering:

“I wonder what Ronald Reagan would be saying today?” McCain said. “[H]e would be saying that’s not the Republican Party of the 20th century and now the 21st century. That’s not the Republican Party that has been willing to stand up for freedom for people for all over the world – whether in Grenada that Ronald Reagan had a quick operation about or about countering the Soviet Union.”

One of the men arrested includes a Pakistani Army major who officials said copied the license plates of cars visiting Bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, The Times reports.

Details of the arrests and the current condition of those arrested are sketchy. The news came to The Times from U.S. officials with knowledge of a closed briefing last week with members of the Senate Intelligence Committee and Michael J. Morell, the deputy C.I.A. director.

Pakistan’s security forces were largely seen as having been embarrassed by the bin Laden raid, as the U.S. did not announce their intentions prior to taking military action there. Pakistani officials have been quick to denounce the raid as it is apparently deeply unpopular with the general populace there.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which would have to allocate the funds, told Dow Jones News Service, “I don’t know where this money is going to come from. Two billion dollars, when everything is getting cut to the bone, is going to be difficult.”

Not to be content with throwing Israel under the bus and sucking up to Muslims on the Palestine issue, Obama is also throwing more of our money at another Muslim problem. Egypt is now going to get a $2 billion economic aid package, courtesy of the American taxpayer. CNN gives one paragraph on those aid package to Egypt, buried in the middle of the slurping Arab Spring story:

On a broader regional level, Obama stressed the importance of economic development to accompany political reforms. Toward that end, he announced $1 billion in debt forgiveness for Egypt, as well as another $1 billion in loan guarantees for Cairo.

Imagine. That $2 billion could have gone to pay for those “evil tax breaks” those evil oil companies get that the Senate was trying to block. Nah, lets give it to some radical Muslim country about to be ruled by the Muslim Brotherhood instead.

A senior, but anonymous State Department official said:

Economic assistance for Egypt and Tunisia is “fundamental to our capacity to support their democratic transitions,”

My bet is that this anonymous “senior” official is probably John Brennan
