Pelosi and Slaughter were against the “Slaughter Solution” before they were for it

Lets hop in our time machines and go back to 2005. Back then of course the Republicans were in majority in the House acting like a bunch of Democrats. 5 years ago when the Republican majority in Congress approved a national debt limit increase using a self-executing rule similar to the so called Slaughter Solution, Nancy Pelosi and Democrats were fuming. The Ralph Nader-backed Public Citizen legal activists went to to federal court to challenge the constitutionality of the move. Guess who joined the Public Citizens activists in that suit with amicus briefs? According to the Washington Examiner, it was none other than Nancy Pelosi, Henry Waxman and Louise Slaughter!

“Article I of the United States Constitution requires that before proposed legislation may “become[] a Law,” U.S. CONST. art. I, § 7, cl. 2, “(1) a bill containing its exact text [must be] approved by a majority of the Members of the House of Representatives; (2) the Senate [must] approve[] precisely the same text; and (3) that text [must be] signed into law by the President,” Clinton v. City of New York, 524 U.S. 417, 448, 118 S.Ct. 2091, 141 L.Ed.2d 393 (1998).

“Public Citizen, a not-for-profit consumer advocacy organization, filed suit in District Court claiming that the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005, Pub.L. No. 109-171, 120 Stat. 4 (2006) (“DRA” or “Act”), is invalid because the bill that was presented to the President did not first pass both chambers of Congress in the exact same form. In particular, Public Citizen contends that the statute’s enactment did not comport with the bicameral passage requirement of Article I, Section 7 of the Constitution, because the version of the legislation that was presented to the House contained a clerk’s error with respect to one term, so the House and Senate voted on slightly different versions of the bill and the President signed the version passed by the Senate.

“Public Citizen asserts that it is irrelevant that the Speaker of the House and the President pro tempore of the Senate both signed a version of the proposed legislation identical to the version signed by the President. Nor does it matter, Public Citizen argues, that the congressional leaders’ signatures attest that indistinguishable legislative text passed both houses.” (Emphasis added)

If you think the D-Baggers and left wing nuts are going to stop with just ramming down the Senate version of ObamaCARE (as is), you have another thing coming. Even Botox Nancy Pelosi told a group of bloggers on Monday:

If you have any doubt that the Democratic leadership of the House views passing the current health care reform bill as the beginning, not the end, of the process of creating a national government health care system, just note what Speaker Nancy Pelosi told a group of bloggers on Monday. “My biggest fight has been between those who wanted to do something incremental and those who wanted to do something comprehensive,” Pelosi said, according to an account by Washington Post reform advocate Ezra Klein. “We won that fight, and once we kick through this door, there’ll be more legislation to follow.”

But since the current bill is unpopular, and Pelosi at the moment does not have enough Democratic, much less Republican, votes to pass it, the door she will be kicking through is the back door. Pelosi told the bloggers she favors using the “self-executing rule” strategy in which the House would pass the Senate health care bill without going on the record as specifically voting for it. “I like it,” Pelosi said of the scheme, “because people don’t have to vote on the Senate bill.” The strategy of passing the Senate bill while avoiding a direct vote, writes Klein, “is all about plausible deniability for House members who don’t want to vote for the Senate bill.”

In a particularly Alice-in-Wonderland moment, Pelosi argued that the debate over health care reform can begin after the bill is passed. “Pelosi said passing the bill would allow Dems to undertake a ‘debate’ with Republicans over ‘what is the balanced role that government should have,’” writes another pro-reform blogger at the Post, Greg Sargent. According to Sargent, Pelosi explained, “We have to take it to the American people, to say, this is the choice that you have. This is the vision that they have for your health and well being, and this is the vision that we have.” Again, in Pelosi’s scenario, that debate would occur after the bill is passed.

Finally, Pelosi downplayed statements from her own team that she does not yet have the votes to pass the national health care measure. On “Meet the Press” Sunday, Democratic Whip Rep. James Clyburn said, “No, we don’t have them as of this morning.” Meeting with the bloggers, Pelosi said, “The reason [Clyburn] said that is we don’t have a bill yet.” In the end, the Speaker declared, “I have no intention of not passing this bill.”

‘Climactic’ health care vote coming next week according to Pelosi

Get ready people! According to Politico, Nancy Pelosi told her members Friday to brace themselves for a climactic health care vote as early as next week, warning them to clear their schedules for next weekend and promising to stay in session until the landmark vote, people present at the meeting said afterward.

Members and staff don’t think Pelosi has the 216 votes she needs to pass reform at this point, but most believe she’s close. A vote next week sets up the prospect that Congress could pass a sweeping health reform bill championed by Obama that has been in the works for more than a year — though the Senate would still have to take up a series of fixes through a procedural process called reconciliation.

House leaders reassured members that two of the most controversial side deals — the so-called Cornhusker Kickback and more Medicare Advantage money for Florida — would be stripped out of the reconciliation bill.

Jack Cafferty slams Nancy Pelosi, AGAIN!

What has happened to poor ole Jack Cafferty of CNN? He was one of the Democrat’s and Obama’s biggest slurpers, not only on the campaign trail, but for the first several months of his presidency. Same goes with Pelosi. She was the the greatest thing since sliced bread (well, aside from Obama) to people like Cafferty when Bush was still President, and when the Democrats took back control of the Congress in 2006. According to NewsBusters, Cafferty slammed Pelosi’s breathtaking arrogance during Tuesday’s “Situation Room,”

JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: Wolf, hundreds of thousands of dollars, that’s how much it cost for a delegation of 59 people led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi along with members of Congress, staff, and in some cases, spouses and kids to go to Copenhagen, site of the climate summit just before Christmas.

CBS News reports that for 21 congressmen, food and rooms for two nights cost $4,400, and the total hotel bill including meeting rooms came to more than $400,000. Pelosi used to military jets for herself and her party at a cost of more than $100,000 in flight time alone. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of taxpayer money — has nothing to do with the Obama administration officials, who went to Denmark to actually attend and work at the summit.

Pelosi filed the required expense reports, but so far she has failed to explain why it was necessary for her and her colleagues to make the trip to Copenhagen in the first place. Her arrogance on this subject: breathtaking. As for the high hotel charges Pelosi’s office says those who stayed two nights were charged a six-night minimum at the five-star Marriott, information that likely was available before Pelosi and her freeloaders made their vacation plans.

Note to the House Speaker: we have skyrocketing deficits, a trillion plus dollars a year, a national debt north of $12 trillion in this country. The president is talking about reining in discretionary spending. I wonder if that would have included this junket by Pelosi and her colleagues. I’d be curious to know where Nancy Pelosi gets her sense of entitlement to simply blow hundreds of thousands of dollars of our money at Christmas time so she and her pals can take a little trip to Copenhagen.

Here is another reason to vote ALL OF THEIR ASSES OUT. Even as CBS’s 60 minutes competely ignored the Harry Reid racist ‘Negro Dialect’ last night on 60 minutes, and instead turned the hour into a hatefest against Sarah Palin, and to some extent Hillary Clinton, they FINALLY have done some actual investigative reporting. According to CBS, cameras spotted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi at the global warming “or climate change” summit last month. Pelosi called the shots on who got to go. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, and embattled Chairman of the Tax Committee Charles Rangel were also there. But this wasn’t purely a Democrat junket:

They were joined by 17 colleagues: Democrats: Waxman, Miller, Markey, Gordon, Levin, Blumenauer, DeGette, Inslee, Ryan, Butterfield, Cleaver, Giffords, and Republicans: Barton, Upton, Moore Capito, Sullivan, Blackburn and Sensenbrenner.

When CBS tried to dig up more info, they were referred to Speaker Pelosi who wouldn’t even agree to an interview. Her office said it “will comply with disclosure requirements” but wouldn’t give us cost estimates or even tell us where they all stayed. Now that’s what I call TRANSPARENCY! Yes, the whole ObamaCARE debacle in both the House and Senate is what liberal left wing nuts like Nancy Pelosi consider “an open process”. In fact, according to Pelosi, there has never been a more OPEN process! The odd timing of Pelosi’s remarks comes on the same day that C-SPAN wrote a letter to congressional leaders Tuesday asking that TV cameras be allowed to film negotiations to reconcile the House and Senate versions of health care reform legislation, according to The Hill.

But Pelosi said Congress has already been transparent throughout the process.

“There has never been a more open process for any legislation,” Pelosi said at a press conference.

Pelosi also hinted that holding informal negotiations–likely without TV cameras–might be the most practical way to push the legislation through.

“We will do what is necessary to pass the bill,” Pelosi said.

Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), assistant to the Speaker, said the healthcare bill had been “subjected to unprecedented level of public scrutiny.”

Pressed on whether C-SPAN cameras would be allowed in negotiations, Van Hollen hedged.

“We don’t even know if there’s going to be a conference committee,” he said, alluding to the likelihood that Democrats will reconcile the two bills behind closed doors.

Pelosi says rallying votes for troop surge in Afghanistan will be Obama’s job

Once a witch, always a witch. I’m going to assume there is already enough votes in the House for Obama’s Afghanistan “surge” of 30,000 troops (only 75% of the mid level plan his general requested). If there aren’t enough votes yet, Obama better not rely on any help of gathering votes from Nancy Pelosi. She also said she is “done” asking her colleagues to back wars that they do not support (I guess that doesn’t include the American people). According to the Washington Post:

“The president’s going to have to make his case,” Pelosi told reporters at a year-end briefing on the legislative session.

While the next round of war-funding legislation is not likely to be considered until spring, Pelosi said there will be a test vote in January on support for the troop buildup. Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich (D-Ohio) has said he will offer a privileged resolution next month calling for an immediate withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. The vote is likely to fail because of broad Republican support for the war, but it could reveal the depth of the schism between Obama and his fellow Democrats on the new troop plan.

“The president looked at, obviously, a number of options that he believed did not adequately change the calculus of what was currently going on in Afghanistan, and that the best way forward was to do this,” White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said in his daily news briefing. “The president may not get the agreement of every member of Congress or every Democratic member of Congress, but will certainly make the case for why he believes this is the best path forward.”

Asked if the administration was surprised by Pelosi’s position, Gibbs said the speaker had in the past made statements “in opposition to adding more forces, as, quite frankly, a number of members of Congress have done.”

But thats not the end of it. Pelosi also spent $30,610 in food and beverage and about $2,740 on bottled water. No word though how much was spent on Botox treatments. These totals, along with others listed below contributed to the nearly $120,531 total from all congressional leadership accounts. Pelosi’s offices defended the charges, saying the Speaker’s office holds more ceremonial events with visiting dignitaries than other congressional offices. They also use a local florist, and about a third of her flower expenses this quarter were for Jack Kemp’s funeral. According to Politico, House Majority Whip James Clyburn has a thing for Chantilly Donuts, spending about $265 at the Virginia shop in the past quarter. And Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.), a “fiscal conservative”, decided to give about $2,000 in unused office funds back to the government to help reduce the deficit.

This is also not limited to Democrats. House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) racked up about $24,617 in catering costs! House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) spent about $1,561 in bottled water and House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) spent no money on water but a touch over $18,000 in food. House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) spent about $24,116 on food and beverage!

Is there a full moon tonight or something? First ABC actually reported on the Obama porkulus number fudging, now the Washington Post is actually reporting on how Pelosi hid almost $300 billion in new healthcare costs by burying the “doc fix” in the debate rules for PelosiCARE. What Washington Post even says that Congress plays make-believe, but the bill to taxpayers is real. Maybe now Pelosi or the other democrats can call out the Washington Post as being un-American now?

HAVING PASSED a health reform bill that is, at least theoretically, paid for, the House of Representatives is poised this week to blow a quarter-trillion-dollar hole in the federal budget involving, you guessed it, health care. This is the so-called doc fix, to prevent scheduled cuts in Medicare reimbursements to physicians from taking effect.

Say you are a member of Congress who agrees that the cuts should be rescinded — that physician payments shouldn’t be reduced, that is — but also believes that the payments should not add to the national debt? Under the rule governing the House debate, you won’t be allowed to suggest any offsetting savings. Either you go for the doc fix and add massively to the deficit, or you torpedo the fix and wreak havoc in the Medicare program, with a 21 percent cut set to take effect Jan 1. Nice choice. It puts those who believe in both fiscal responsibility and averting these draconian cuts in an impossible situation.

By the way, don’t be fooled by the incredible shrinking “cost” of the fix. The official Congressional Budget Office estimate used to be $245 billion over 10 years. Now it’s $210 billion. In fact, the real hit to the budget will be closer to $300 billion. The lower CBO numbers stem primarily from the administration’s move to change the rules about which physician payments are subject to the cuts. The administration proposed a regulation to exempt drugs administered in doctor’s offices, such as chemotherapy, from the spending ceiling. That has the effect of making the cost of the fix look smaller, but it doesn’t change the ultimate drain on the treasury: Medicare will end up paying out the same amount of money.

All of this is, to some degree, Medicare kabuki to placate the American Medical Association. The Senate doesn’t have the votes to pass a permanent fix without paying for it — though, of course, it also doesn’t have the votes actually to pay for it. So while the House might pass the unpaid-for fix, it will likely die there. The result will be another year-long, or possible two-year, patch slapped on this mess. Finding the money to pay for the fix and, more to the point, cobbling together the political coalition to support it, is difficult. Which is why Congress and the administration have joined hands in the pretense that the doc fix has nothing whatsoever to do with health reform.

Doug Hoffman appeared on the Neil Cavuto show today and told Cavuto that the race for the NY23 Congress seat is still open. It seems that Nancy Pelosi decided to certify the results of Bill Owens ‘victory’ before the state of New York certified the race. Isn’t something wrong here or am I off base? Doug Hoffman also got a shot in at Owens for breaking 4 of his campaign promises his first week in office including voting for the Democrat’s nationalized health care plan WITH the public option that Owens claimed he would never vote for.

A bit of a history lesson for Democrats claming NY23 win is their first since the Civil War

Nancy Pelosi and Democrats are creaming their pants claiming that by winning NY-23’s Congress seat, they have done something that they haven’t done since the Civil War. Unless the Civil War happened back in 1979, then something is terribly wrong with this claim. New York’s current 23th district was of course re-”districted” over and over along like many others. Pelosi tries to rename the public option to “the consumer option.”

The so called “public option” announced earlier by Harry Reid will be included in the Senate ObamaCARE bill. The public option which is really a government-run option is one of the reasons ObamaCARE is so unpopular, despite a few skewed polled by some left wingnut site’s polls. Nancy Pelosi and other left wingnuts in Congress are trying to slap a new label on it now, according to Breitbart.

In an appearance at a Florida senior center, the Democratic leader referred to the so-called public option as “the consumer option.” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., appeared by Pelosi’s side and used the term “competitive option.”

Both suggested new terminology might get them past any lingering doubts among the public—or consumers or competitors.

“You’ll hear everyone say, ‘There’s got to be a better name for this,’” Pelosi said. “When people think of the public option, public is being misrepresented, that this is being paid for with their public dollars.”

Pelosi said that was a misconception and that any taxpayer money used to start up the public option would be repaid. She also said such an option would ultimately drive down government health care costs.

The speaker said the “competitive option” idea emerged during her closed-door roundtable at the Sunrise Senior Center with advocates of seniors and others who work with older populations. Wasserman Schultz suggested the term might be here to stay.

“I think she’s going to go up and test-drive it when she goes back to Washington,” Wasserman Schultz said. “It might stick.”

Nancy Pelosi counted votes Thursday night came up short in her quest for a “robust public option”. The “Robust” public option is the most extreme version of what the liberals are trying to shove down the throats of Americans. Though Pelosi, Hoyer, and other left wing loons in the House may have deep throats, not enough House members do. However, there are still two other “public option” versions. According to Politico, this means Democrats are more likely to try for a “trigger” option for a government plan.

Administration officials have been telling POLITICO for weeks now that this is the most likely compromise because it can probably satisfy liberals — albeit only reluctantly and after many vent frustration and some even threaten to walk away from the bill.

This would clear the way for backers to sneak a limited public option through the Senate by attracting moderate Democrats and then to win President Barack Obama’s signature.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) says there’s no reason for Rep. Alan Grayson to apologize for his “Die quickly” remark, since Republicans have made statements just as outrageous as his.

“If anybody’s going apologize, everybody should apologize,” Pelosi told reporters at her weekly press conference. “We are holding Democrats to a higher standard than their own members.”

She deemed the flap over Grayson’s remarks a distraction from the healthcare debate.

“Typically, Republicans would like to use this as distraction because they have no plan,” Pelosi said.

Republicans, who have been eager to compare Grayson’s remark to Rep. Joe Wilson’s (R-S.C.) “You lie!” outburst, said Pelosi’s refusal to call on Grayson to apologize meant that she condones “despicable” conduct.

“The only thing lower than the Speaker’s actions – or inaction – are her ever-worsening public approval ratings,” said Ken Spain, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
