Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska will vote YES on Saturday’s healthcare vote

Time for liberals to get those tingles up their legs again, “moderate” democrat (yea right, like they exist) will vote YES during tommorow night’s healthcare vote. Don’t know what was promised to this dirtbag, but Nelson announced in a paper statement this morning that he will vote to debate the bill (From ABC News):

“For more than a year, Nebraskans and all Americans have debated health care reform in their homes, at work, and with friends at hundreds of town hall meetings.

“This weekend, I will vote for the motion to proceed to bring that debate onto the Senate floor. The Senate should start trying to fix a health care system that costs too much and delivers too little for Nebraskans.

“Throughout my Senate career I have consistently rejected efforts to obstruct. That’s what the vote on the motion to proceed is all about.

“It is not for or against the new Senate health care bill released Wednesday.

“It is only to begin debate and an opportunity to make improvements. If you don’t like a bill why block your own opportunity to amend it?

“As we have seen before, obstructionists are inviting a move toward reconciliation by opposing this first procedural vote. Let’s be clear. That route shrinks debate and amendments, eliminates bipartisanship and needs only 50 votes to pass a bill.

“In the end, far more Washington-run health care policies win, but Nebraskans lose.

“In my first reading, I support parts of the bill and oppose others I will work to fix. If that’s not possible, I will oppose the second cloture motion—needing 60 votes—to end debate, and oppose the final bill.

“But I won’t slam the doors of the Senate in the face of Nebraskans now. They want the health care system fixed. The Senate owes them a full and open debate to try to do so.”

The second wave of “what’s to come” is from the ACOG – American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists is now saying women younger than 30 should undergo cervical cancer screening once every two years instead of an annual exam. And ACOG is saying women of the age 30 and older can be screened once every three years!

Dr. Thomas Herzog of Columbia University tells Fox News:

“Overtreatment of minor abnormal pap tests in young women and adolescents can lead to consequences such as preterm labor in some cases. It increases the risk,” said Dr. Thomas Herzog of Columbia University in New York, who is chairman of an ACOG subcommittee on gynecologic cancers.

“Preterm delivery has become a huge problem in the United States that has potential serious consequences for the unborn fetus,” said Dr. Jennifer Milosavijevic, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, who supports the guideline changes.

“These new guidelines will allow us to avoid doing unnecessary procedures on the sexually active adolescent female,” she said in an e-mail.

Reid’s Government-Run Health Plan Requires a Monthly Abortion Fee!

Forget the Stupak amendment soon to be ripped out of the PelosiCARE bill, how about you paying a monthly fee for people can have abortions?J The Harry Reid Senate healthcare bill that was released last night which is a whopping 2,074 pages long would levy a new “abortion premium” fee on Americans in the government-run plan according to John Boehner’s blog. Here are the gory details:

Beginning on line 7, p. 118, section 1303 under “Voluntary Choice of Coverage of Abortion Services” the Health and Human Services Secretary is given the authority to determine when abortion is allowed under the government-run health plan. Leader Reid’s plan also requires that at least one insurance plan offered in the Exchange covers abortions (line 13, p. 120).

What is even more alarming is that a monthly abortion premium will be charged of all enrollees in the government-run health plan. It’s right there beginning on line 11, page 122, section 1303, under “Actuarial Value of Optional Service Coverage.” The premium will be paid into a U.S. Treasury account – and these federal funds will be used to pay for the abortion services.

Section 1303(a)(2)(C) describes the process in which the Health Benefits Commissioner is to assess the monthly premiums that will be used to pay for elective abortions under the government-run health plan and for those who are given an affordability credit to purchase insurance coverage that includes abortion through the Exchange. The Commissioner must charge at a minimum $1 per enrollee per month.

Bart Stupak – I have votes to defeat healthcare bill (and takes a shot at Axelrod)

Bart Stupak (D-MI) said today on Fox and Friends that he has the votes to defeat healthcare reform aka PelosiCARE/ObamaCARE if his abortion amendment is taken out. Stupak claims to have between 10-20 anti-abortion Democrats would vote against a bill with weaker language according to The Hill. Knowing the current crop of Democrats, i think this is nothing more than lip service, and they would just cower to Obama and Pelosi anyway.

“They’re not going to take it out,” Stupak said on “Fox and Friends,” referring to Senate Democrats. “If they do, healthcare will not move forward.”

Stupak’s amendment prohibits any insurance plan on a potential healthcare exchange from accepting federal subsidies if it covers abortion. Pro-abortion-rights lawmakers say that language is too broad and would drastically reduce access to abortion.

White House senior adviser David Axelrod said over the weekend that he expected Stupak’s language to be “adjusted.”

Stupak disagreed.

“We won fair and square,” Stupak said of the House vote. “[T]hat is why Mr. Axelrod is not a legislator — he doesn’t really know what he is talking about.”

Obama turns health care vote into fundraising tool – sends out e-mail one hour before house bill passed

Barely one hour before the passage of HR3962 aka PelosiCARE last night, it seems Obama sent out a fundraising email asking supporters for money to push a national health care bill through the Senate, according to the Washington Examiner it read like this:

“This is a night to celebrate — but not to rest,” Obama writes in a fundraising appeal sent by Organizing for America, the permanent version of his 2008 presidential campaign. “Can you donate $25 or whatever you can afford so we can finish this fight?”

Obama says Organizing for America will need lots of cash for the Senate battle. “The final Senate bill hasn’t even been released yet, but the insurance companies are already pressing hard for a filibuster to bury it,” Obama writes. The “insider lobbyists and partisan operatives” are now “desperate” after their “old formula of scare tactics, D.C. back-scratching and special-interest money” failed to stop the Democratic health care bill.

“Don’t think for a minute that power concedes without a fight,” Obama reminds his fundraising targets. “Please donate to Organizing for America’s campaign to win this fight and ensure that real health care reform reaches my desk by the end of this year.”

Organizing for America, which is under the umbrella of the Democratic National Committee, claims its supporters have made 502,651 phone calls to congressional offices since October 20, all urging the passage of health care reform.

Is this so Obama can claim the one “Republican” to vote for PelosiCARE makes the bill bi-partisan? Anh “Joseph” Cao who replaced “Cold Cash” William Jefferson in Lousiana’s 2nd district during the 2008 election was the only Republican to vote in favor of the Democratic health care bill that passed the House late Saturday. According to CNN, Cao’s vote came after Obama called to personally to ask for his support. Apparently, the Obama call to CAO came at around noon yesterday right before Obama decided to pop off to Camp David. Did Obama know something no one else did? What exactly did Obama offer Cao? Cao claims he explained to Obama that he could not support the health care bill without the anti-abortion amendment aka the Stupak amendment but said he would support the bill if the abortion measure passed. Once the Stupak amendment passed, many believed that was enough to get enough “blue dogs” to vote for the bill. Had Republicans (other than CAO) just pulled an Obama and voted Present, the amendment would have never passed and we might not be at this point today.

Cao, who hails from one of the most Democratic districts in the country, also asked the president for assurances that the administration would do more to help with ongoing disaster relief efforts in his New Orleans district, specifically by forgiving millions in disaster loans to the region.

By supporting the bill, Cao has opened himself up to criticism from other members of his party, but the Republican said his vote was the right decision for his constituents and “the right decision based on my conscience.”

Needing 218 votes to pass PelosiCARE, the vote was 220 Yea and 215 Nay. Joseph Gao, from Louisiana’s 2nd district an overwhelmingly Democrat district, who hasn’t had a Republican rep since 1890 was the lone “Republican” to vote Yea for the Bill. Guess who Gao replaced in 2008? None other than Cold Cash William Jefferson! What does this all mean? Not a whole lot as most people expected this to pass the House with the overwhelming majority. Much like Cap and Trade, people don’t expect this to survive in the Senate.

Heritage foundation cost of PelosiCARE: $2.6 Trillion! Judd Gregg $3 Trillion!

As Heritage analysts noted earlier in the week, the Congressional Budget Office released its preliminary score of the bill (H.R. 3962) that was about $1.8 Trillion, ReidCARE clocking in at $1.7 trillion. Of course, no one in the media mentioned it. I didn’t even hear a word about the new CBO costs mentioned on Fox News. Only place you could find it was on the internet. But today the Heritage Foundary has posted the real story about the true cost and it is even more dramatic than originally thought. The bill is front loaded with taxes, and back-loaded with spending in the first ten years. Since most of the spending in the House bill does not fully go into effect until 2014, the 10-year cost estimates based on the preliminary CBO score (for years 2010 through 2019) only account for six years of new spending under the plan. Once it is implemented (over a full 10-year window from years 2014 to 2023), the giant House health bill carries a price tag of $2.4 trillion, or as much as $2.6 trillion with the “doc fix.”! According to RedState, Senator Judd Gregg: estimate of House Bill will cost $3 TRILLION!

Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH), ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee today commented on the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) more detailed cost estimate of the manager’s amendment to the House health reform bill.

Senator Gregg stated, “The CBO estimate released last night finally sheds light on the smoke and mirrors game the majority has been playing with the cost of their health care reform proposal. Over the first 10 years, this legislation builds in gross new spending of $1.7 trillion – and most of the new spending doesn’t even start until 2014. Once that spending is fully phased in, the House Democratic bill rings up at more than $3 trillion over ten years.

“Additionally, this bill cuts critical Medicare and Medicaid funding by $628 billion, accounts for nearly $1.2 trillion in tax and fee increases and will explode the scope of government by putting the nation’s health care system in the hands of Washington bureaucrats. The $3 trillion price tag defies common sense – we simply cannot add all this new spending to the government rolls and claim to control the deficit.

“If we continue to pile more and more debt on the next generation, they will never be able to get out from under it. The health care system needs reform, but this massive expansion of government, financed by our children and grandchildren, is the wrong way to proceed.”

Like many Americans, I’m very concerned about the efforts underway to rush through the 2,000 page Pelosi health care bill this weekend. Why the rush? That’s a lot of pages to read. Why not give everyone the chance to read it and debate it?

How much will this bill cost us? It’s unclear because the figures coming out of Washington keep changing – and always in the direction of costing more, not less. The latest numbers show it will cost more than a trillion dollars over the decade, but when has a government program ever come in on or under budget?

How will we pay for it? Taxes, of course – and not just on the “rich” (you know, the people who spur the economy by buying goods and running companies that employ people), but also on just about everyone, especially small businesses – the job-creating engine of our economy. One of the points of health care reform was to help small businesses with the cost, but this bill hurts them – and right at a time when so many Americans are out of work and need the jobs that small businesses produce.

What’s in this bill? The “death panel” provision is in it. Medicare cuts are in it. Coverage of illegal immigrants is in it. And federal funding for abortion is in it. I commend the many Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats who are taking a principled stance to fight this.

I had a message for Speaker Pelosi in a speech I gave last night for the Wisconsin Right to Life – “please, please don’t break the ‘transparency promise’ by prohibiting at least a vote of your colleagues on funding abortion-on-demand.”

Speaker Pelosi has already broken many promises thus far in this “reform” exercise. She promised that this would be a bi-partisan effort, but the bill she’s pushing isn’t bi-partisan. She promised that the final version of the bill would be posted online 72 hours before it comes to a vote so that the American people could clearly see what’s in it and how we will pay for it. But she broke that promise too when she decided to rush the bill to a vote this weekend.

The speaker must be held accountable for her broken promises. Now is the time for Americans who believe in the free market and who believe that we need policies that promote job growth instead of job loss to say once and for all, “Enough!” Stand up and make your voices heard before it’s too late. Call and email your representatives and tell them to vote “no” on Pelosi’s train wreck of a health care bill, or else we will vote “no” to sending them back to Washington when we go to the polls in less than 12 months.

Liberal weighted CNN Poll approach Rasmussen numbers: Americans against ObamaCARE 53%/45%

Of all the talk from left wing loony toons who claim the Rasmussen polls are so “ring wing” biased, despite them be the most accurate predictor of last year’s Presidential election, and this years 2 governor races, it looks like CNN is either become “right wing extremist” or even they can’t fudge the numbers anymore with weighted democratic polls on ObamaCARE. Instead, CNN is forced to use misleading story lines such as “Public wants Congress to keep working on health care.” No idiots, people DONT WANT this kinda of “change” to healthcare period (well, aside from far left loons).

Fifty-nine percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey say lawmakers should continue working on the legislation, a rise of 6 points since August. But only a quarter say those bills should be passed pretty much as is, with a third suggesting that Congress should make major changes. The poll also indicates that one in four say lawmakers should start from scratch and 15 percent want Congress to stop all work on health care reform…

“Six in ten independents say they oppose Obama’s health care proposals,” says Holland. “That’s a nine point increase since October.”

Liberty’s Army mentiones that Former Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop has written a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Harry Reid expressing “deep personal concerns about the direction of the health care reform bills.”

“More specifically,” says the former Surgeon General, “I am troubled about the possibility of federal dollars being used to pay for elective abortions and Americans being forced to subsidize them.”
