Senate Republicans stall confirmation of Mari Carmen Aponte who is Obama’s ambassador Pick for El Salvador over ties to Cuba

Another day, another Obama commie nomination. This time, Senate Republicans have slammed the brakes on the confirmation of Obama’s latest commie nominee for ambassador to El Salvador. This one is Mari Carmen Aponte and apparently she has some ties Cuba. This is also the same Mari Carmen Aponte, who withdrew her nomination to another diplomatic post in the Clinton era following questions about her past relationship with someone who had apparently caught the attention of the FBI.

Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., forced the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to delay a hearing scheduled this week on the nomination of Mari Carmen Aponte until next Wednesday.

“Serious concerns about this nominee arose when she was nominated for a different position during the Clinton administration,” DeMint said in a written statement to FoxNews.com. “I have asked the committee for additional time to review these matters. So far we have not received all of the information we have requested.”

In 1998, President Clinton’s nomination of Aponte for ambassador to the Dominican Republic fizzled after the foreign relations panel questioned her over her past relationship to Roberto Tamayo, who had raised concern at the FBI over “possible ties to the Cuban government” and “repeated trips there,” one former official with knowledge of that nomination told FoxNews.com.

Aponte came under scrutiny by the committee after revelations that she attended a party at the Cuban mission to the United Nations in New York City, the former official said.

According to reports at the time, a former Cuban intelligence agent also told a Spanish-language newspaper in Miami in 1993 that Cuban intelligence was trying to recruit her through her boyfriend.

By the time Clinton nominated her, that relationship had ended — the former official said the Senate committee had no evidence of any such recruitment either. But the source said the committee was ultimately concerned about her relationship with Tamayo, and whether it could be exploited by the Cuban government.

The Miami Herald reported in 1999 that the FBI had cleared Aponte of being targeted in any recruitment scheme. The Washington Times quoted a former FBI agent at the time as saying Tamayo was actually a valuable source of information for the FBI.

The White House defended Aponte when her nomination was announced in December.

“As has been previously reported, the FBI fully investigated this issue in 1999, and Ms. Aponte received a thorough background check by diplomatic security as part of the nomination process this time around,” White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said in an e-mail to FoxNews.com.

“Had there been any doubt, the president would not have nominated Ms. Aponte to this position,” he said.

But the former official with knowledge of the nomination said Tamayo was probably not an FBI “mole,” and his contact with the agency didn’t mean he was innocuous.

Before I start agreeing with everything Massa says and reveals about this crooked administration, I still have to keep in mind how nutty Eric Massa is. On Friday he announced he would resign from Congress because he had “cancer”. Then over the weekend it wasn’t because of the cancer, but rather being strong armed by the administration over his no votes on ObamaCARE and Cap and Trade. While I can totally believe the strong arming threats and tactics, especially from Rahm Emanuel, Eric Massa credibility isn’t exactly there either. If you needed to hear any more weirdness from Massa, listen to this audio clip in which Massa calls Rahm Emanuel the “Son of the Devil’s Spawn.”. Eric Massa just sounds too creepy to believe. Na na na na! Na na na na! Hey! Hey! Goodbye! Yet another Chicago failure of this administration is resigning. She can join San Francisco’s Van Jones somewhere, maybe at the Soros funded Center for American Progress. Yes, according to Politco, the White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers who is now infamous for allowing the Salahi’s into the White House State Dinner at “crasher gate” is going byebye. She will leave her post next month. The leading candidate to replace Rogers is Julianna Smoot, currently chief of staff for U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk, according to a senior administration official. Ron Kirk is yet another famous Obama appointed tax cheat. Kirk was appointed to be Obama’s Trade Representative.

Rogers, who plans to return to the corporate world, became one of the administration’s most high-profile staffers. A friend of both Obamas dating back to Chicago, she appeared in the pages of Vogue, on the cover of the Wall Street Journal magazine and was in the front row during last year’s New York Fashion Week.

But it was a blast of unwelcome publicity — the gate-crashers at President Barack Obama’s first state dinner — that put Rogers into the national spotlight. After Tareq and Michaele Salahi got into the dinner and shook hands with the president, all apparently without an invitation, Rogers’s handling of security for the event came under fire.

Rogers was criticized for failing to post someone from the East Wing at a security checkpoint. The White House defended her, placing full blame on the Secret Service, yet a subsequent investigation led to procedural changes.

When asked if she was hit hard by the resignation, longtime friend and White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett told POLITICO in an e-mail: “No, it didn’t hit me hard. Desiree never intended to stay more than about a year.”

“She has made a tremendous contribution, and I completely respect her decision to return to the private sector,” Jarrett added.

Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), the ranking member on the House Homeland Security Committee, blasted the White House in December for declining to have Rogers testify in the congressional probe into the state dinner security breach. King, asked if he will now call Rogers to testify, told POLITICO through his spokesman: “No further comment on Desiree Rogers, I wish her well.”

“We are enormously grateful to Desiree Rogers for the terrific job she’s done as the White House Social Secretary,” the president and first lady said in a statement released by the White House. “When she took this position, we asked Desiree to help make sure that the White House truly is the People’s House, and she did that by welcoming scores of everyday Americans through its doors, from wounded warriors to local schoolchildren to NASCAR drivers. She organized hundreds of fun and creative events during her time here, and we will miss her. We thank her again for her service and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

In Friday’s press briefing, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Rogers told the Obamas “at the beginning of the year it was time to go to back to the private sector.” Rogers was not asked to leave, Gibbs said.

David Plouffe to become Obama’s “outside” adviser

What does Obama due when the country is finally waking up to his and Congress’s far left agenda? He goes ever more to the left with the re-hiring of David Plouffe to be his “outside” adviser. Plouffe, is the man who managed Obama’s campaign, and will now be taking on an expanded role as an outside adviser to the White House, according to the Washington Post.

Allies of the White House cast the Plouffe move as less about the Massachusetts election and more about the fact that the election year is heating up and Plouffe has more free time following the publication of his campaign memoir late last year. Still, the timing is sure to stoke speculation that the White House is seeking to shore up its political operation.

After managing Obama’s successful primary and general election races, Plouffe chose not to go into the White House — as so many of his campaign colleagues did — but rather return to the private sector and focus on writing his memoir of the campaign called “The Audacity to Win”. The book was released on November 3, 2009.

Plouffe did stay involved with Organizing for America, the operation formed in the wake of Obama’s victory to maintain the massive grassroots email and donor base built during the campaign. While OFA officials tout it as a success story there is increasing skepticism within the party about whether it has truly fulfilled its mission of bringing a grassroots army to bear on the President’s top priorities.

TSA nominee Erroll Southers withdraws

The great news just keeps on flowing (kinda like the flood waters out here in Los Angeles). Another Obama appointed nut job, Erroll Southers who was nominated to head the Transportation Security Administration withdrew from consideration on Wednesday, saying his nomination was “obstructed by political ideology.” This is the same Erroll Southers who lied before Congress and called Christian identity oriented groups terrorists! The Washington Post has the story:

“I was extremely excited about the opportunity to lead the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and fulfill Secretary [Janet] Napolitano’s objective to develop it into the best organization of its kind in the world,” Southers said in a statement released by the White House on Wednesday. “However, it is apparent that this path has been obstructed by political ideology. I have decided, after deep reflection and in consultation with my family and friends to respectfully withdraw my name from consideration for confirmation as the assistant secretary for the TSA.”

“It is clear that my nomination has become a lightning rod for those who have chosen to push a political agenda at the risk of the safety and security of the American people,” Southers said. “This partisan climate is unacceptable and I refuse to allow myself to remain part of their dialogue. The TSA has important work to be done and I regret I will not be part of their success.”

“The President believes that Erroll Southers would have been an excellent TSA administrator but understands his personal decision and the choice he has made,” said White House spokesman Nicholas Shapiro.

“Southers was uniquely qualified for this job and it is with great sadness that the president accepted Southers’ withdrawal. Fortunately the acting TSA Administrator is very able and we have a solid team of professionals at TSA doing vital national security work to keep us safe,” Shapiro said.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) had planned to hold an up or down vote on Southers next week. But Republican opposition continued and requests for more information from the White House went unanswered, said Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.).

“The Senate could have had an open and transparent debate this week to approve Mr. Southers, but apparently, answering simple, direct questions about security and integrity were too much for this nominee,” DeMint said in a statement. “I hope the president will quickly put forward a new nominee that is fully vetted and that will put the safety of the American people first.”

DeMint, who led GOP opposition to Southers, initially opposed him out of fear that TSA would eventually approve collective bargaining rights for airport security officers. TSA employees can join a union, but cannot collectively bargain. DeMint and other Republicans argued that union interference would jeopardize airport security.

Not quite Clintonesque, or maybe even Mark Sanford “esque” but rather slimy to say the least. This latest Democrat sex scandal involves Orszag’s former girlfriend, shipping heiress Claire Milonas. She gave birth to his Orszag’s daughter six weeks before Orszag announced his engagement to ABC News reporter Bianna Golodryga on Dec. 29. Orszag, who is 10 years older than Golodryga already has two children from a previous marriage. Despite the “statements” released by both Orszag and Milonas, it has been reported that Orszag had promised to marry Milonas when she found out she was pregnant with his child. As far as the media coverage goes, Newsbusters notes that NBC’s Today made sure to highlight the revelation that the budget director has also fathered a child with his (now) ex-girlfriend. ABC’s Good Morning America skipped this development, as did CBS’s Early Show.

Reporter Norah O’Donnell highlighted, “This comes just one week after the announcement that Orszag was getting engaged to ABC’s Bianna Golodryga. She broke the news on national television.” O’Donnell then played a clip of Golodryga discussing the engagement on GMA. NBC doesn’t often delight in awkward situations for the Obama administration. But the correspondent also added, “Simply put, this is an embarrassment for one of the President’s top advisers and a member of his cabinet.”

Another day, another Obama nominee revealed to be a complete nutjob. Chai Feldblum is Obama’s nominee to become commissioner for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The same Chai Feldblum that signed a manifesto praising polygamy and arguing traditional marriage should not be privileged above other forms of union. The online petition signed by Feldblum is entitled “Beyond Same-Sex Marriage: A New Strategic Vision For All Our Families and Relationships.” More from WND:

President Obama’s nominee to become commissioner for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission signed a manifesto praising polygamy and arguing traditional marriage should not be privileged above other forms of union.

Chai Feldblum, an outspoken homosexual rights activist and Georgetown University law professor, is a signatory to an online petition entitled “Beyond Same-Sex Marriage: A New Strategic Vision For All Our Families and Relationships.”

The organization defines itself as “a diverse group of nearly twenty LGBT and queer activists [who] came together to discuss marriage and family politics as they exist in the United States today.”

The manifesto, first noticed by the Catholic News Agency, calls for a “new vision” for securing governmental and private institutional recognition of “diverse kinds of partnerships.”

Among the stated “partnerships” the petition seeks to protect is “households in which there is more than one conjugal partner.”

The petition laments what it claims are conservative attempts to push for “abstinence-only sex education, stringent divorce laws, coercive marriage promotion policies directed toward women on welfare, and attacks on reproductive freedom.”

Stefan Sharkansky of Sound Politics has now settled his King County public records lawsuit for $225,000, one of the largest settlements for public records violations in state history agains Obama HUS Nominee Ron Sims. More from Sound Politics (Sharkansky’s site):

The lawsuit stemmed from my December 2004 request for a list of all voters who voted in the November 2004 election. The county did not satisfy my request in full until January 2007.

The documents that they eventually provided to me revealed that county election officials unlawfully counted hundreds of ineligible ballots in the 2004 election: a multiple of Christine Gregoire’s 133-vote “margin of victory” over Dino Rossi in the contested gubernatorial race. Documentation of these illegal votes was withheld from discovery in the election contest trial and not released to me until months after the trial. Consequently, the trial was conducted in ignorance of these potentially outcome-changing illegal votes.

Additional documents that were released last month in discovery for my case confirmed that county officials both knew more about the illegal vote counting than they had previously acknowledged, and also knowingly withheld responsive documents from me during 2005 and 2006.

The exceptionally large (for records cases) settlement, which King County offered before trial, clearly recognizes the county’s culpability in this matter.

King County Executive Ron Sims, who is ultimately responsible for any records violations under his administration, appears to be on track for confirmation as Deputy Secretary of HUD. Sims is also well known for the Yousoufian public records scandal.

Another day, another Obama admin crook. Michelle Malkin mentions that Steven Rattner, the leader of the Obama administration’s auto task force, was one of the executives involved with payments under scrutiny in a probe of an alleged kickback scheme at New York state’s pension fund, according to a person familiar with the matter. The Treasury’s car czar, Steve Rattner, has been dragged into the New York State retirement fund kickback scandal that led to several arrests earlier this week.

Rattner’s private equity firm, Quadrangle, paid a finder’s fee to one of the defendants in the kickback scheme for a $100 million investment the state retirement fund made in one of Quadrangle’s funds.

More troublingly, one of Quadrangle’s affiliate companies also paid $88,000 to acquire the DVD distribution rights for a movie produced by the New York State official who made the investment decision and his brothers. Quadrangle made this DVD payment during the time the state was considering making the investment.

Count ‘em. SIX Tax Cheat. Well technically FIVE tax cheats, plus a spouse of a tax cheat. Today comes word about the fourth tax cheat nominated by Obama to his Cabinet. Today the tax cheat is Kathleen Sebelius, who replaced another tax cheat Tom Daschle to be Obama’s HHS. CBS has the info:

The wire service reports that she and her husband paid just over $7,000 in back taxes, along with $878 in interest, for the years 2005-2007

Another day, another Obama Cabinet appointee has to withdraw due to scandals. Jon Cannon, nominee for Deputy U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator. In all my years of witnessing politics, I have NEVER seen anything like this with a President selecting his cabinet. Sure there is always problems with some original appointees, but this is beyond a comedy show. As of the time of this post, naturally no MSM have any news stories up about this scandal/withdrawl yet, but Michelle Malkin found this EPA report from 2007 on how the America’s Clean Water Foundation mishandled three huge government grants totaling nearlly $26 million:

The Foundation did not comply with the financial and program management standards and the procurement standards promulgated in Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Part 30. Specifically, the Foundation (1) could not provide support for any of its general journal entries; (2) included duplicate transactions in its accounting system; (3) recorded labor charged to EPA grants incorrectly; (4) could not support the recorded indirect costs; (5) claimed unallowable preaward costs; (6) recorded EPA cash draws inaccurately; (7) did not submit required indirect cost proposals to EPA; (8) did not complete the required single audits for fiscal years ended June 30, 2003, June 30, 2004, and June 30, 2005; and (9) did not submit a Federal Cash Transactions Report when required.

The Foundation’s procurement practices and procedures did not comply with the grant regulations. The Foundation awarded sole source contracts without performing the cost/price analysis required by Title 40 CFR 30.45. It also awarded a contract to a member of its Board of Directors, contrary to the conflict of interest provisions at Title 40 CFR 30.42, and reimbursed a contractor for billings above contractual ceilings. Because the Foundation did not adequately document its costs and did not comply with the EPA regulations, we questioned the Federal share claimed of $25,372,590.

The America’s Clean Water Foundation disappeared soon after the discovery of financial shenanigans.

Another day, another Hussein Obama nomination, Charles “Chas” Freeman, bites the dust. Freeman was selected to serve as chairman of the group that prepares the U.S. intelligence community’s most sensitive assessments. Freeman who is best known for his China / Saudi Arabia ties and Israel/America bashing, decided to request that his selection not proceed, according to Washington Independent:

Poor little tax cheat Tim Geithner. Can’t find anyone to work with him. His deputies last week resigned (maybe they don’t have tax problems). I suppose the liberal whiners can always blame Bush for this problem. Let us remember, that this was the man who just HAD to be confirmed as Treasury Secretary despite his tax cheating, because he was so brilliant, and was going to help Hussein Obama magically fix everything ailing the country! Here’s a quote from the Breitbart article:

Geithner’s choice for undersecretary for international affairs, Caroline Atkinson, also took her name out of the running, only weeks ahead of the April 2, Group of 20 developed and developing nations summit in London.

With all the talk during the election about how ‘old and tired’ John McCain would be, since he’s such an old man, it seems the tired excuse is getting to the new Hussein Obama adminsitration. First it was the ‘tired’ and ‘overwhelmed’ excuse when Obama embarassed the country with the 25 dvds given to Gordon Brown. Now apparently Hillary is tired too. Forget the whole reset button where she couldn’t even translate to Russian correctly. It seems orget the fact that State can’t translate Russian. Hillary doesn’t understand history. period! Reuters shows more brilliance from Hillary regarding the European Parliament:
