GAO Says More Than 50,000 jobs claimed to have been “saved or created” by stimulus have Spent NO money

Now thats what I call an efficient stimulus! “Saving or creating” 50,000 jobs without spending a time of the $787 billion porkulus. Problem is, thats impossible and the GAO (Government Accountability Office) has yet again expose the BS that is Obama/Biden and the rest of the idiots claiming how successful the so called stimulus has been. There’s been reports of 1 job created in San Diego, ZERO jobs saved or created in Michigan, and fake numbers thrown out else where. There’s even been claims by the Recovery.gov’s website that 30 jobs were created in Arizona’s 15th district. The problem with that is, Arizona only has a total of 8 districts. Maybe ACORN is counting dead people again, or Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and sending these stats to Obama and the White House. ABC after trying to make Sarah Palin look bad by doing extreme closeups on her during her interview with Barbara Walters is actually doing some reporting for a change. According to them, more than 50,000 jobs, or one out of every 10 jobs the White House says were “saved or created” by their economic stimulus plan, came from projects that reported spending no money yet, according to a government report obtained by ABC News.

Recovery.gov tracks where the stimulus money goes, but who tracks Recovery.gov?

The report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) analyzes the Administration’s October 2009 report on jobs saved or created by the $787 billion stimulus program and finds a “range of significant reporting and processing problems that need to be addressed.”

Even with the errors, GAO gives the Obama Administration high marks for its efforts at transparency and in making so much information public in such a short period of time.

“Given the national scale of the recipient reporting exercise and the limited time frames in which it was implemented,” the report says, “[recovery.gov] represents a solid first step in moving toward more transparency and accountability for federal funds.”

California Senator Barbara Boxer was in San Diego talking about stimulus money. The lion’s share of the “stimulus” will be going to advance research for alzheimer’s, pediatric drugs, autism and technologies to better diagnose diseases.

Obama slashes 60,000 jobs From recent stimulus report

As more and more evidence of the lying of this administration comes out on the amount of jobs “saved” or “created” with the nearly $800 billion porkulus, most recently the Detroit Free Press story in which they claim virtual no jobs at all have been saved or created in the state of Michigan, Obama slashed over 60,000 jobs from its most recent report on the program because the reporting outlets had submitted “unrealistic data,” according to a document obtained by ABC News. Yes folks, as amazing as it may seem, ABC is actually doing journalism!

The Office of Management and Budget document shows that before an Oct. 30 progress report on the program the administration asked the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board to remove information from 12 stimulus recipients that contained “unrealistic data,” including “unrealistic job data.” (Read the document here.)

One recipient – Talladega County of Alabama – claimed that 5,000 jobs had been saved or created from only $42,000 in stimulus funds.

You know its getting bad when even a far left fish wrap like the Detroit Free Press is exposing you and your so called “stimulus” package. Unless its attempt by these fish wraps to pressure Obama and Congress into a second stimulus, this can do nothing more than make everyone involved look like the idiots they are. Remember what Obama said though when it comes to the stimulus, NO ONE MESSES WITH JOE (Biden)! The Detroit Free Press’s analysis also shows that others who have been promised or have received stimulus money have overstated — in some cases greatly — the number of jobs created or protected. Obama of course and typical of liberal Michigan state officials say it’s too early to draw conclusions about the overall impact of the $787-billion nationwide program to stimulate the economy and generate jobs. They promise that job growth will follow as more funding arrives.

“It looks to us like the program is unfolding much as we hoped in Michigan,” said White House economic adviser Jared Bernstein.

The Free Press examination of more than 1,800 government reports of those who have received or expect to receive stimulus money found the biggest impact was spurring or protecting public-sector or summer jobs — not private-sector jobs. Michigan has the nation’s worst unemployment rate.

Officials reported that by Sept. 30, some 22,500 Michigan jobs were created or retained thanks to the promise of $5.2 billion in stimulus money for the state, $1.2 billion of which had arrived.

The analysis also found:

• Three of every four stimulus grants, contracts and loans approved in Michigan created or retained one job or less.

• Fewer than 700 awards had received some money, and nearly half of those — 327 — had created one job or less, at a cost per job of $2.7 million.

• Some job estimates were wrong: General Motors Co., for instance, reported 105 jobs saved or created for a government purchase of 5,000 vehicles but later said no jobs were saved or created. The City of Detroit reported 342 jobs it now says were projections — not jobs already created or retained.

The Sacramento Bee is a liberal biased fish wrap. Yet, they report that up to one-fourth of the 110,000 jobs reported as “saved” by federal stimulus money in California probably never were in danger. In this case its probably safe to assume that this percentage is on the low side. The same BS about “Jobs saved” was revealed in Ohio.

California State University officials reported late last week that they saved more jobs with stimulus money than the number of jobs saved in Texas – and in 44 other states.

In a required state report to the federal government, the university system said the $268.5 million it received in stimulus funding through October allowed it to retain 26,156 employees.

That total represents more than half of CSU’s statewide work force. However, university officials confirmed Thursday that half their workers were not going to be laid off without the stimulus dollars.

“This is not really a real number of people,” CSU spokeswoman Clara Potes-Fellow said. “It’s like a budget number.”

That certainly was not the way Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger described it at a news event with Vice President Joe Biden late last week, where he focused on people, not budgets.

“Anyone that criticizes the stimulus money should talk to those 100,000 people that have retained their jobs or gotten jobs because of the stimulus money, especially the 62,000 teachers that have kept their jobs or gotten jobs,” Schwarzenegger said.

When asked about CSU’s numbers on Wednesday, Camille Anderson, a spokeswoman for the California Recovery Task Force, said it was up to the university to report its numbers accurately.

“CSU assured the California Recovery Task Force that they self-reported in strict adherence with federal reporting requirements,” Anderson said.

Multiple cases of inflated and underreported job tallies have surfaced since the federal government released detailed stimulus reports last week, said Craig Jennings, a senior policy analyst at OMB Watch, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit group that tracks federal spending.

“I don’t think recipients know what they are supposed to put down,” Jennings said, referring to guidelines for estimating the number of jobs retained.

Nonetheless, Jennings said his review so far indicates most employers have reported job creation numbers that appear realistic.

Statewide, numbers reported by the Governor’s Office show roughly one job in California created for every $75,000 in stimulus funding received through Oct. 30 – a sum that certainly sounds realistic, especially when benefits are considered.

But broken down by projects and programs, that averaging gets complicated.

Many giant projects, most of them dealing with transportation, have received tens of millions of dollars but reported creating or retaining few jobs because work has not yet begun.

On the flip side, about 500 California employers receiving stimulus funds reported creating work for less than $15,000 per job. California State University is the largest example of this – it spent about $10,000 per job. In another example, the state Employment Development Department reported creating the equivalent of about 12,000 jobs for around $7,000 apiece.

Most of those EDD jobs were temporary and went to youths who would otherwise have had trouble finding employment, said Liz Clingman, deputy division chief in the EDD’s work force services division.

By comparison, the University of California system received $717 million in stimulus funding – nearly three times the amount given to the CSU system – but reported only about 8,400 jobs saved, a cost of $85,000 per job.

In the case of the CSU system, spokeswoman Potes-Fellow said university officials followed federal reporting guidelines in calculating the numbers.

They determined that CSU’s stimulus funds equaled the pay of roughly 26,000 full-time employees for the two months following the allocation, May and June, and reported that as the number of jobs saved, Potes-Fellow said.

Given CSU’s large payroll, the system would need to receive another $1 billion or more to keep funding those jobs for an entire year. But about half of the money California expects to receive under the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund – the stimulus dollars funding the university jobs – already has been spent.

CSU’s accounting method, however, seems to violate at least the spirit of written guidance from the federal government.

In a June letter to all funding recipients, White House Budget Director Peter Orszag said, “A job retained is an existing position that would not have been continued to be filled were it not for Recovery Act funding.”

When asked about CSU’s contention that half its work force was not at risk without stimulus funding, a U.S. Department of Education official suggested that CSU might be downplaying the magnitude of its problems.

“If the recipient claims that they wouldn’t have lost the jobs if they didn’t have stimulus money to pay for them, it begs the question of where they would have found the funds to keep the jobs,” said Sandra Abrevaya, the Education Department spokeswoman.

Asked how many jobs actually would have been lost at CSU campuses without the stimulus infusion, Potes-Fellow said she did not know, though she said it would have been significant.

The recession is over! Unemployment jumps to 10.2% – Actually the REAL rate is 17.5%

No its true! The recession is over says the likes of Ben Bernake, and anyone on the Obama team. The unemployment rate is just a “lagging indicator” of the economy. Well this lagging indicator just jumped 0.4% in ONE MONTH from 9.8% to 10.2%
the highest rate since April of 1983. And yet the $787 billion stimulus was supposed to create all those jobs and this rate wasn’t supposed to climb above 8%. So far the Porkulus has done nothing more than paying for GPS enabled choppers looking for rat droppings, study the Nancy Pelosi fish in San Francisco, etc. Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rates for adult men 10.7%, Whites 9.5% Women 8.1%, Teenagers 27.6%, Blacks 15.7%, and Hispanics 13.1%. The unemployment rate for Asians stands at 7.5%

The 10.2 percent unemployment rate does not include people without jobs who have stopped looking for work or those who have settled for part-time jobs. If you counted those people, the unemployment rate would be 17.5 percent, the highest on records dating from 1994

Last week, Obama claimed that the porkulus bill saved or created over 640,000 nationwide, and around 7,200 education jobs in the state of Ohio. According to the Columbus Dispatch, although a couple of hundred of those jobs were in Columbus City Schools, the district acknowledged yesterday that many of the “saved” jobs definitely wouldn’t have been lost in the first place, and others might not have been lost at all.

“I know we explained to (the Ohio Department of Education) what we were doing, and they told us what categories to use,” said Jill Dannemiller, director of federal programs for the Columbus schools.

Although other areas of the district’s budget might have suffered without the stimulus, district officials said, the jobs report nonetheless highlighted the fuzzy math involved in pinpointing a saved-jobs number.

The Obama administration announced Friday that about 640,000 jobs had been created or saved by the $787 billion stimulus package, with 325,000 of them in education. It didn’t differentiate between saved jobs and created jobs.

Federal Education Secretary Arne Duncan said in a conference call with reporters yesterday that the country has “325,000 who would literally not be in the classroom today if not for these funds.” But not in Columbus, where the district’s finances looked pretty solid before the stimulus. Voters passed a levy last November that should keep the district’s books largely in the black until 2012.

Of the 212.5 full-time equivalent jobs the district said were funded with part of the $64 million in stimulus it expects to receive, about 65 percent were “saved,” including 36 principals and assistant principals.

Remember that Colorado company that claimed it created 4,231 jobs with the help stimulus? Well, lets just say thats a bit on the high side. AP reports the actual amount is fewer than 1,000. In Florida, a child care center said it saved 129 jobs with stimulus money. Unless just giving pay raises existing employees counts as “saving jobs” then that number is BS too. Elsewhere in the U.S., some jobs credited to the stimulus program were counted two, three, four or even more times. Very ACORNish. Associated Press review of data released in the program’s first progress report shows these BS totals and that the government has overstated by thousands the number of jobs it has created or saved with federal contracts under the Obama’s $787 “stimulus”. Yes, as amazing as it may seem, the AP is actually reporting on this.

The discrepancy raises questions about the reliability of a key benchmark the administration uses to gauge the success of the stimulus. The errors could be magnified Friday when a much larger round of reports is released. It is expected to show hundreds of thousands of jobs repairing public housing, building schools, repaving highways and keeping teachers on local payrolls.

The White House seized on an initial report from a government oversight board weeks ago that claimed federal contracts awarded to businesses under the recovery plan already had helped pay for more than 30,000 jobs. The administration said the number was evidence that the stimulus program had exceeded early expectations toward reaching the president’s promise of creating or saving 3.5 million jobs by the end of next year.

But the 30,000 figure is overstated by thousands — at the very least by nearly 5,000, or one in six, based on AP’s limited review of some of the contracts — because some federal agencies and recipients of the money provided incorrect job counts. The review found some counts were more than 10 times as high as the actual number of jobs; some jobs were credited to stimulus spending when, in fact, none were produced.

The White House says it is aware there are problems. Ed DeSeve, an Obama adviser helping to oversee the stimulus program, said agencies have been working with businesses that received the money to correct mistakes. Other errors discovered by the public also will be corrected, he said.

“If there’s an error that was made, let’s get it fixed,” DeSeve said.

$2 million of stimulus spent on hair dressers

Truely economic stimulating no? According to one of the most left-wing papers in the country (The St. Petersburg Times), $2.3 million of your tax payer money from the stimulus money has been grants to be targeted to train more hairstylists, nail technicians and masseuses in the Tampa Bay area. Clipping issue no? The stimulus money was also being spent to train hairstylists to craft a French braids! I mean, how could anyone in America go without French braids right?

In an economy where there is a pressing need to help the growing ranks of jobless in manufacturing, public safety, technology and construction, it seems the height of folly for $2.3 million in federal economic stimulus grants to be targeted to train more hairstylists, nail technicians and masseuses in the Tampa Bay area. What else to call this capricious use of precious stimulus funds but a taxpayer clip job?

The stimulus money being spent to train hairstylists to craft a French braid is administered through Pell Grants to area vocational training facilities. Several beauty schools have received between $250,000 and $1 million in public money to help cover tuition that can run up to $12,000 a year — more than tuition to attend the University of Florida for a year.

Never mind that even professionals in the hairstyling business say there are few job opportunities. In determining how to allocate stimulus dollars, the federal government inexplicably does not conduct an assessment on which job skills are in demand and focus on funding training in those in more needy areas. How shortsighted. How wasteful. How mystifying.

In addition to the largesse being lavished on beauty schools, also consider the $5.4 million in federal stimulus money targeted for St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport, despite the facility’s ranking on a government list as one of the lowest priorities for airport projects in the nation. By contrast, Tampa International Airport, which serves 24 times as many passengers as St. Petersburg-Clearwater, will receive a modest $8 million in stimulus cash.

So much for due diligence.

As millions of unemployed Americans across the nation and the Tampa Bay area continue to fruitlessly search for work, the spending of their tax money on job training and projects of questionable value does not help the situation. The stimulus money was needed to help stem the recession, but it should be spent where it can do the most good.

9.8% is a higher number than 8% right? Because we were promised by Obama and the rest of the corrupt liberal democrats that once the stimulus passed, the US jobless rate would NOT go above 8%. IF we didn’t pass the bill, it would hit 9%. With the employment rate at 9.8% percent in September employers cut far more jobs than expected, despite the “recession being over” like Obama and Ben Bernanke claimed. More from Fox News:

The official jobless rate stopped short of topping 10 percent only because the Labor Department doesn’t count people who have given up looking for work or settled for part-time jobs.

More than a half-million unemployed people gave up looking for work last month. If laid-off workers who have settled for part-time work or have given up looking for new jobs are included, the unemployment rate rose to 17 percent, the highest on records dating from 1994.

The Labor Department said Friday that the economy lost a net total of 263,000 jobs last month, up from a downwardly revised 201,000 in August. That’s above Wall Street economists’ expectations of 180,000 job losses, according to a survey by Thomson Reuters.

The unemployment rate rose from 9.7 percent in August, matching expectations.

All told, 15.1 million Americans are now out of work, the department said. And more than 7.1 million jobs have been eliminated since the recession began in December 2007.

Obama is calling the latest jobless figures a sobering reminder that progress to reverse the recession comes in fits and starts.

He says the new unemployment numbers also serve as a reminder that the country needs to “grind out this recovery step by step.”

The president says employment is often the last indicator to show that a recession is over, and he is promising that his administration is doing everything it can to accelerate that process.

But figures pose a serious problem for Obama, who had claimed his $787 billion stimulus bill would keep the unemployment rate below 8 percent in an effort to get it passed earlier this year. Now Republicans, who were nearly unified in opposing the spending package, are using the latest figures as evidence that the stimulus failed.

New jobless claims rise more than expected

Hows about that hope and change? Stimulus passed, unemployment isn’t going above 8% remember? Cash 4 Clunkers saved the car industry, yet GM and Chrysler sales were down over 40% in the month of September. The recession is over according to crook Ben Bernanke, yet first-time claims for jobless benefits rose more than expected last week, a sign employers are reluctant to hire and the job market remains weak. According to AP/Google, The Labor Department says initial claims for unemployment insurance rose to a seasonally adjusted 551,000 from 534,000 in the previous week. Wall Street economists expected an increase of 5,000, according to a survey by Thomson Reuters.

The increase comes after three weeks of declines. Weekly claims have been trending down since the spring, but the decline has been painfully slow. The four-week average, which smooths out fluctuations, dropped to 548,000, about 110,000 below its peak in early April.

The number of people remaining on the rolls fell 70,000 to 6.09 million, the lowest level since the week of April 4.

Blue Dog democrats cave on health care, just as expected

Again, there is no such thing as a “conservative democrat”. They proved this over the last 2 years of the Bush admin, proved this during the porkulus bill, and the 9000 ear mark bill. Today, they prove yet again what a bunch of spineless cowards they are caving on ObamaCARE. After days of intensive negotiations, a group of key moderate Democrats on Wednesday announced that they reached a health care reform deal with the White House and congressional leaders. More from Fox News:

The compromise would cut the cost of the $1 trillion-plus package by $100 billion, according to one member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition. The deal would also ensure that the proposed government-run insurance program would not be forced on anyone.

“We have reached an agreement that will allow health care reform to move forward,” said Rep. Mike Ross, D-Ark.

Seven Blue Dogs had held up passage of the bill in the House Energy and Commerce Committee over concerns about cost and the speed at which Democrats were advancing the legislation. The committee is the only House panel that hasn’t voted on the bill.

Ross said four of those seven agreed to the compromise Wednesday. But that gives Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif., enough votes for passage.

Jobless claims rise to 554,000

Is it time to stick a fork in the whole notion that the porklus is “saving” or creating jobs? According to Yahoo:

The number of newly laid-off workers seeking jobless benefits rose last week, though the government said its report again was distorted by the timing of auto plant shutdowns.

Unemployment insurance claims have declined steadily since the spring, but most private economists and the Federal Reserve expect jobs to remain scarce and the unemployment rate to top 10 percent by year-end.

The Labor Department said Thursday that its tally of initial claims for unemployment insurance rose by 30,000 to a seasonally adjusted 554,000. That was above analysts’ estimates of 550,000.

As if the $1.2 milion for ham, and $1.5 million for cheese from the porkulus wasn’t bad enough, how about payments of $9,090 per month for “publicity” of the porkulus to old democrat hack, and former worker eD Rendell campaigns worker Ken Snyder? From the Morning Call:

”Obviously it is important to educate the public about where the recovery dollars are working in the commonwealth,” PennDOT’s Chizmar said. ”The public deserves and has a right to know.”

Sure it is! Like the $1.2 million for ham, $1.5 million for cheese, $350,000 for a dumbwaiter, etc.

Obama said in The Washington Post that he never envisioned that his stimulus package would afford quick relief to the American economy, but would do so only after it had run its two-year course. Joe Biden the moron vice President has said “they misread the economy”, and has admited at least 30% of the money from the stimulus can be wasted (this on top of the waste of liberal pet projects such as Pelosi’s San Francisco Rodent). This is quite a different tone than before the passage of the stimulus in which “we had to pass this bill NOW to avoid the worst collapse since the Great Depression”. Well since the porkulus bill has passed, his lies have been exposed. With unemployment now at 9.5% and expected to go as high as 11-12% by the end of the year, this completely refutes his claims of no nigher than 8% unemployement if the bill passed. in which it wasn’t supposed to go above 8% with the passage of the bill. He claimed it would “create or save” 600,000 jobs, yet the economy has lost AT LEAST 450,000 jobs every months since the bill’s passage. But as his polls numbers continue to drop, he still has political capital to work with. There is talk of Porkulus 2, and of course the impending passages of the socialized health care bill and Crap and Tax.

Your tax dollars at work yet again. According to ABC, for those concerned about stimulus spending, the General Services Administration sends word tonight that $18 million in additional funds are being spent to redesign the Recovery.gov Web site. The new Web site promises to give taxpayers more information about where their money is going than the current version of the site.

$18 MILLION dollars to design a government website. Now thats stimulus we need! (at least for the company getting the $18 million).
