Thursday morning on Chris Jansing’s MSNBC show, Politico Senior Reporter Lois Romano referred to Guantanamo Bay as a “really bad political tar baby” for President Obama:
JANSING: Lois, let me start with Guantanamo Bay. Everybody knows [Obama] made this campaign pledge the first time he ran. Again to the question ‘why now?’ — was he pushed by the hundred prisoners who are on hunger strikes?
ROMANO: I think it just came to another boiling point right now. [Obama] ran on this in 2008, and if you recall, when he came into office, there was a lot of turmoil within the White House. His then-counsel, Greg Craig, was pushing to close Guantanamo; he set a date that they couldn’t meet, and it ended up being a really bad political tar baby for him.

Would you like to have a “skinny” health insurance policy? Probably not. But if you’re employed by a large company, you may get one, thanks to ObamaCare.

That’s the conclusion of Wall Street Journal reporters Christopher Weaver and Anna Wilde Mathews, who report that insurance brokers are pitching and selling “low-benefit” policies across the country.

Wonder what a “skinny” or “low-benefit” insurance plan is? The terms may vary, but the basic idea is that policies would cover preventive care, a limited number of doctor visits and perhaps generic drugs. They wouldn’t cover things such as surgery, hospital stays or prenatal care.

That sounds similar to an auto-insurance policy that reimburses you when you change the oil but not when your car gets totaled.

While momentum has been building inside the House Republican conference for a special congressional committee to investigate last year’s terrorist attacks in Benghazi, the GOP leadership is making it clear they still have no enthusiasm for establishing such a committee.

About two-thirds of House Republicans — 153 in total — have signed on to the resolution offered by Rep. Frank Wolf of Virginia to establish “a select committee to investigate and report on the attack on the United States consulate in Benghazi, Libya.”

“I think there’s a lot of frustration up here among members that the stuff that’s coming out now should have come out a while ago, and we should be diving a lot deeper on it,” one congressional source in support of the resolution said.

But House Speaker John Boehner has publicly asserted that he is against the establishment of a select committee, saying he thinks the best course for examining the attacks is letting the five House committees already investigating to continue their work.

Larry’s departure has nothing to do with the particular position he took, but it does have to do with our belief that his actions made it impossible for him to report for KMOV on certain political matters going forward without at least an appearance of bias. Bringing you accurate and unbiased reporting is the reason we exist.

Seriously? KMOV fires Connors because he’s critical of a Democrat president and the IRS scandal swirling, and they preach ‘unbiased, objective news reporting?’ Obviously I must be in some sort of bizarre world now or something. I guess that’s what we’ve come to expect from CBS channels these days as they are so far up Obama’s ass, you their logo is stained in feces.

In a startling exchange Wednesday during the IRS hearings before the House Oversight and Reform Committee, America learned that the IRS knew in May of 2012 that its employees were targeting conservative organization with paralyzing harassment and Kafka-esque audits. Although the IRS knew this, they did not report this information to Congress.
“While a tremendous amount of attention is centered about the Inspector General’s report, or investigation, the committee has learned from Ms. Paz that she in fact participated in an IRS internal investigation that concluded in May of 2012 – May 3 of 2012 – and found essentially the same thing that Mr. George found more than a year later,” Committee Chair Issa said.
“Think about it,” Issa continued. “For more than a year, the IRS knew that it had inappropriately targeted groups of Americans based on their political beliefs, and without mentioning it, and in fact without honestly answering questions that were the result of this internal investigation.”
Issa then turned his attention to Treasury Inspector General J. Russell George. George’s IRS audit wasn’t completed until the middle of this month, but backed by statute, Issa told George that he had a legal obligation to inform Congress of what he was finding in the process of completing his audit.

Darrell Issa told Politico that Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights with her statements and will be recalled to testify.

“The precedents are clear that this is not something you can turn on and turn off,” he told POLITICO. “She made testimony after she was sworn in, asserted her innocence in a number of areas, even answered questions asserting that a document was true … So she gave partial testimony and then tried to revoke that.”

He said he was not expecting that.

“I understand from her counsel that there was a plan to assert her Fifth Amendment rights,” he continued. “She went ahead and made a statement, so counsel let her effectively under the precedent, waive — so we now have someone who no longer has that ability.”

Chicago billionaire Penny Pritzker inadvertently understated a portion of her income by at least $80 million in a disclosure form required for her nomination to be U.S. Commerce secretary and has amended the document.

Documents released last week show Pritzker received $32.2 million for a decade’s worth of consulting on the restructuring of domestic trusts. The filings released yesterday show she earned at least $80 million for that work, according to Bloomberg’s compilation of the data. The revised total is in addition to the amount reported last week, according to Anderson.

Penny Pritzker family founded Hyatt Hotels. It’s estimated that Pritzker is worth $1.5 billion. But she’s the good rich.

Along with that information, the IRS released private information on nine conservative groups that had not yet been approved and personal information had not been redacted. The net cast by the Department of Justice into the media pool just keeps getting bigger. The original story of Associated Press phone records being seized alone was enough to qualify as the Obama administration’s third big scandal of the moment, right up there with Benghazi and the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups. Then we learned that the Justice Department had looked into not only the work calls of Fox News’ James Rosen, but his personal cell phone, his movements and his Google emails as well. And now, reports say that the DOJ looked into his parents’ phone records too.
