Uh oh! Another oil rig explodes in the Gulf of Mexico – 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana

Update: According to WWLTV.com, A spokesman for the Coast Guard said 13 people were on the rig when it exploded and 12 have so far been accounted for.
Not again! An oil rig has exploded 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana. According to CNN, 12 people went overboard and one person is missing.
Rescue attempts are underway for at least 12 people, Coast Guard spokesman John Edwards told CNN. 13 people were on board the rig total, Edwards said, noting 12 have been accounted for, but one person was missing.
The accident took place 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana on the Vermilion Oil rig 380, which is owned by Houston-based Mariner Energy.
The Coast Guard has multiple helicopters, an airplane and several Coast Guard cutters en route. It’s unknown if there are any injuries.

Previously undisclosed documents from senior Obama regime officials concluded the federal moratorium on deepwater oil drilling would cost around 23,000 jobs, according to the Wall Street Journal. But this didn’t stop the Obama regime from going ahead with the ban because simply because they didn’t “trust” the industry’s safety equipment and the government’s own inspection process.

While there was good news that came out last night that the oil finally stopped spewing from the blown out well, today things aren’t sounding as good. According to Yahoo/AP, pressure readings have been less than ideal from the new cap shutting oil into BP’s busted well. Crude will remain locked in while engineers look for evidence of whether there is an undiscovered leak.

BP has been slowly dialing down the flow as part of a critical pressure test on its new cap, which it now believes is fully containing the oil for the first time since the crisis began nearly three months ago.
Engineers are monitoring the pressure to see if the busted well holds, but has already said their custom-fitted cap will be a temporary fix before they permanently clog the blown-out well.
High pressure readings are better in the test, because it means the oil is staying within the cap and not escaping through an unknown leak.
Earlier Thursday engineers replaced a leaky pipe that created yet another delay for the oil company’s latest uncertain fix.

BP is now delaying critical tests on a leaky well cap designed to finally stop the flow of oil in the Gulf of Mexico because the Obama regime says “more analysis” was needed on the plan. According to Fox News, BP engineers were scheduled to start slowly shutting off valves on the 75-ton metal stack of pipes and valves, aiming to stop the flow of oil for the first time in three months. A series of preliminary steps were completed, including mapping the seafloor.
Day 83 of the Gulf Oil Spill – Obama goes golfing again!
Yes, yet again Obama has hit the golf links. I think this is the 9th time he’s played since the oil spill began in April. The Hill reports that Obama spent Sunday on the golf course at Fort Belvoir, Va. Obama was playing golf with regular links partner Marvin Nicholson and two others whose names weren’t immediately known. Obama’s addiction to golf is almost as bad as his addiction to cigarettes, and previously cocaine in his younger years.

Diamond Offshore announced Friday that its Ocean Endeavor drilling rig will leave the Gulf of Mexico and move to Egyptian waters immediately — making it the first to abandon the United States in the wake of the BP oil spill and a ban on deep-water drilling. And the Ocean Endeavor’s exodus probably won’t be the last, according to oil industry officials and Gulf Coast leaders who warn that other companies eager to find work for the now-idled rigs are considering moving them outside the U.S. Great news for those who had jobs in on these rigs wouldn’t you say? According to the Houston Chronicle, Devon Energy Corp. had been leasing the Endeavor to drill in the same region of the Gulf as BP’s leaking Macondo well, which has been gushing crude since a lethal blowout April 20. But Diamond announced Friday it will lease the rig through June 30, 2011, to Cairo-based Burullus Gas Co., which plans to send the Endeavor to Egyptian waters immediately.

CNBC reported that the Obama regime will “immediately” issue a revised drilling ban if a federal appeals court agrees with a lower court’s decision to block the government’s initial six-month moratorium on drilling in deep waters, an Interior Department official told Reuters on Thursday.

Day 78 of the oil spill: Oil Tarballs Reach Texas Coast
78 days into the Gulf Coast oil spill and a dubious milestone was achieved this weekend. Tarballs washed ashore the Texas coast! Tests confirmed the oil came from the Deepwater Horizon. This means oil has now reached ALL of the Gulf states – Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. Rumors now that the next set of oil and tar balls to wash up int the next few days will be in Miami and the Florida Keys.
Day 77 BP Oil Spill: A Whale Super Oil Skimmer Tests Inconclusive, Day 76 Obama goes golfing AGAIN!
For the 8th time since the oil began leaking, Obama has hit the links, golfing again. It must have been a tough previous week campaigning and blaming Bush. From Gateway Pundit (via Free Republic):

The news media, with the exception of The Hill, failed to report Obama’s time on the links at Andrews Air Force Base. The Hill buried the mention with one line in their story about Obama’s day.
Obama was criticized last month for his administration attacking BP’s CEO for attending a yacht race while at the same time Obama was playing golf yet again.
A search of Google News shows that no other news outlet mentioned Obama’s eighth golfing venture in the eleven weeks since the oil disaster started. Republicans made an issue of Obama’s work ethic a few weeks ago with a video that documented the time Obama has spent golfing and partying since April 20th.
The White House responded at the time by saying Obama’s numerous golf outings “does us all good as American citizens.” (I think they stole that line from the North Koreans.)
The White House pool is not allowed on the course at Andrews AFB to photograph Obama golfing. The most recent images of Obama on a golf course are from late April in Asheville, North Carolina–the first of two vacations Obama has taken since the oil spill.

As we complete Week 11 of the BP oil spill crisis, the U.S. Coast Guard has announced that the past two days of testing the Taiwanese super oil skimmer, the “A Whale”, are inconclusive. The tests are to determine just how clean the water is being processed by the ten-story, 1000+ foot long ship. TMT, the company which owns the “A Whale”, claims that the world’s largest oil skimmer can process some 500,000 barrels of oily water per day, and can save some 20,000 barrels of reclaimed oil.

Day 74 of oil spill: Congressional Report claims Obama regime lied about cleanup efforts of Gulf oil spill
Billy Nungesser, president of New Orleans’ Plaquemines Parish, sensed that a chart showing 140 oil skimmers at work — a chart given to him by BP and the Coast Guard — was “somewhat inaccurate.” So, Nungesser asked to fly over the spill to verify the number. According to CNSNEWS the flyover was cancelled three times before those officials admitted that just 31 of the 140 skimmers were actually deployed!

Hope and Change? More like more of the same (or worse). Nearly six in ten voters nationwide — 57% — say Obama’s handling of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is either the same or worse than Bush’s handling of Katrina. These stats according to a new Marist poll. Breaking down these numbers:

- 23% view Obama’s handling worse.
Democrat Rep. Gene Taylor on Obama’s handling of Gulf oil spill: “I’m having a Katrina flashback”
As oil spread as close as 1½ miles from Jackson County’s coast U.S. Democrat Rep. Gene Taylor called the response to the Deepwater Horizon oil disaster “incompetent.” According to Gulflive, Taylor also said:
“I’m having a Katrina flashback,”
said the Bay St. Louis Democrat after an aerial survey of the Mississippi Sound and barrier islands Saturday morning. He also said:
“I haven’t seen this much incompetence since Michael Brown was running FEMA.”
Day 68 of the oil spill: IRS Set To Tax BP Relief Money
So this was Obama’s plan for the $20 billion relief fund set up by BP! According to Townhall, the IRS has declared that it would tax BP’s $20 billion slush fund at the same rates other income is taxed. Obama is desperate to fund his costly public programs before a scorching November election during which the budget will be on center stage.

‘Reasonably high’ chance BP files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
There is a reasonably high chance that BP could file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the next few years, or even months, and the result would be an “absolute horror” for the government, according to a bankruptcy expert (via Grist). Peter S. Kaufman, the President of investment bank Gordian Group and head of the firm’s Restructuring and Distressed M&A practice, told me that if he had BP’s ear,
“I’d advise them to explore the option of bankruptcy.”
If he had the government’s ear, he’d tell them to stop berating the company to the point where BP would find it appealing to use bankruptcy to limit its liabilities.
Obama delayed measuring rate of Gulf oil flow for 5 weeks
Now this is really just pathetic. Of course, everything Obama and his band of thugs has done to this point on the Gulf oil spill has been pathetic, so I guess I shouldn’t be shocked. According to NextGov, the federal government delayed by five weeks deploying high-tech sensors that could accurately measure the how much oil was spewing out of the BP well in the Gulf of Mexico because officials thought the well would be capped or shut down within a relatively short time span, according to contract documents the U.S. Coast Guard released on Monday!
Day 65: BP removes cap that was capturing oil
So much for Obama’s promise of “90% of all oil leaking from BP being captured.” The failure in chief has egg on his face once again as BP has been forced to remove a cap that was collecting about 20% of the oil spewing from the gushing well. According to USA Today, BP said in a statement that capturing oil and gas through the cap is temporarily suspended until the cap can be re-installed. Oil continues to gush from the broken wellhead, at the site of the Deepwater Horizon oil well in the Gulf of Mexico.
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar will issue a new order imposing a moratorium on deepwater oil drilling
Despite being overruled by New Orleans Federal Judge Martin Feldman on the deepwater drilling ban, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, nor anyone else in the Obama regime seems to care .Ken Salazar says he will issue a new order imposing a moratorium on deepwater drilling. According to Fox News, Salazar said in a statement Tuesday that the new order will contain additional information making clear why the six-month drilling pause was necessary in the aftermath of the Gulf oil spill.
